    Excellent video, and outstanding content from a pro. It is actually helping me decide to buy an 850/1000. I already knew I would want an EPI kit on one but now I am reassured on the difficulty level of the project. And I am reminded how comforting and polite and accurate it is listening to us fellow middle-country northerners talk about projects. Nice job.

    Great video! By far the best one I have seen. I am in the process of taking off my clutch on 17 1000 and that duct work was stopping me from getting the secondary off. Now I know the process.

    I installed the kit but I heated up the helix screws to take them out. The helix sheared off the screws as I was riding. Do you think the heat compromised the integrity of the screws and that's why they broke off? I did everything else just as you did in the video.

  • @EPIperformance

    @EPIperformance

    3 жыл бұрын

    The heat shouldnt have hurt the screws. We have heated them several times and havent seen any issues. Usually when the bolts shear off its because the loosened up and backed out. Then the force of the helix while driving shears them off. A lot of times you can tell if this happened if the holes in the helix are egged out. This happens often if you don't use loctite on the bolts, or dont give the loctite time to set up. Hope that helps.

    I have a 2017 sportsman xp 1000. After watching you videos on how to disassemble I’ve got to the part where you state you need to remove a castle nut. I see no castle nut. Did this year not have one. Do I just go straight to breaking the spider loose with your tool?

  • @EPIperformance

    @EPIperformance

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes you are correct, if there is no jam nut which is normal on some of the Polaris models to have no nut, then carefully heat up spider and loosen the spider.

    So if I’m trying to change out the shims in the primary. Is there any need to pull the entire primary clutch off? Or can I do it directly on the four wheeler?

  • @EPIperformance

    @EPIperformance

    4 жыл бұрын

    Not sure which shims you are talking about. If your talking about the secondary clutch you can change those without removing the secondary clutch. If you are changing the shims in the primary that go next to the center bearing you will have to remove the clutch and also need some special tools to be able to brake down the clutch. If that's the case we have a video that shows how to rebuild a primary clutch.

    I have 2014 850xp. It looks the same as newer models, is there any differences? And could you run 30" tires with that clutch kit? I've been thinking puttin on 28s or 30s

  • @EPIperformance

    @EPIperformance

    The process is the same on the older ones, except you dont have to loosen and lift up the rear bumper and fenders to get the clutches out. On our website we have a video on a 2013 also. We would have a kit for both 28-30" tires. If you call our tech line we can tell you the options, 218-829-6036.

    Should there be any play in the little pins/ bolts that hold the weights in place. There Is 3 of them I have 2 that don't move at all but the 3rd one I can move the pin back and forth with my finger feel like it makes a rattle noise when driving

  • @EPIperformance

    @EPIperformance

    9 ай бұрын

    The weight pins will vary by model and clutch. Usually if you can slide them back and forth that is fine. Typically you won't hear the weight pin bolts make noise while driving. What will make noise is if the any of the clutch or weight bushings are worn, the weight bushings are worn and/or the weight pin bolt is worn where the weight pivots on the bolt. In most cases you will hear a rattle while at idle but if the clutch is engaged there is normally enough load on it the rattling stops. So if your hearing rattle I would take the extra time and closely inspect the entire clutch.

    How do you adjust belt alignment with this style secondary? My belt is just barely touching the inner sheeve.

    Late answer but for others to read,adding or subtracting the number of small washers on the bolt for the secondary changes the alignment.

    When I did my epi kit which color spring is which 2016 850 highlifter in the primary I have the brown on no used what is the difference in the primary springs

  • @EPIperformance

    @EPIperformance

    3 жыл бұрын

    The brown is the higher engagement spring and the one which will give you the most performance. The other primary spring will lower your engagement approx 200-300 rpms and keep the same top rpms.

    I installed qsc clutch kit on my 2016 sportsman 1000 hl after the install under light throttle has normally operation but full throttle take off seems like it slips then after it hits rev limit it hooks and pulls hard just looking for any pointers

  • @EPIperformance

    @EPIperformance

    6 жыл бұрын

    Not sure what QSC uses in their clutch kit. But I would clean clutches and inspect your belt, maybe throw a new belt on. Usually if it isn't a belt or an alignment issue then the calibration of the clutch kit is off. Either on clutch it opening to fast or to slow and causing some issues.

    Out High Lifter kit is different then the normal sportsman kits. On the HL we change the primary and secondary spring, use the stock weights and helix. But if it only does it in High Range it could be just slipping because your in high. What size tires are you running.

    The clutch kit will make the machine perform better for your type of riding and make up for the power loss of putting on larger tires. We have several different kits depending on tire size and where you ride. All the kits will give you better low end and midrange power, faster backshift and throttle response and will grip the belt better then stock. The kit will save belt and clutch wear also. The different kits are listed on our website at epiperformance.com

We would need to know what size tires you are running and what elevation you are normally riding at and then we can help you get the best kit for your riding. If its easier you can call our tech line at 1-218-829-6036. Thanks!

    To get the clutches off the machine you can use a small bar or a loarge screwdriver to hold them from moving when you taking them off and putting them on. You will need a clutch puller to get the primary clutch off the machine.

    Depends on how you are using it. In most cases you can just reinstall the cover and the rubber oring seals good enough. More hardcaore water or mud riders can try to seal better, but if you is silicone it will glue the cover on and makes it real hard to get the cover off.
