I love this! I see so many teachers doing so much extra decor that has no real purpose. It looks great, but takes time and money and doesn't always enhance learning.

I’ve been thinking about boiling the standards down to skills! This is great!

Marie, as a high school teacher in Victoria Australia, I find your classroom decor videos fascinating as we do not have one classroom assigned. Instead we move from one room to another each lesson. Our teacher desk is in a staff room. So the questions I have and I hope you can answer them, are.... is every teacher expected to decorate, furnish, set up etc... there own classroom? And who pays for all of this? Also, why does it feel as though many teachers in the US are spending a lot of their summer holidays preparing their classroom? Surely you all need a break, mentally and physically removing yourself from school? Fascinated by these differences....

After 2 weeks of break, I get bored, so I am back into prep mode. But also, during the school year, we don't have much time to create or thing about how do lessons differently. Summer is the perfect time to take time to do that. That's just my opinion...

Vicsap I’m from the UK and have similar questions about who’s paying for this decor/supplies and why US teachers spend so much time in the summer preparing (however I definitely understand the boredom 😂) are all these efforts obligatory?

I.can’t speak for Marie, but generally teachers choose to decorate their classrooms in order to offer a safe and welcoming environment for their students. Many of the items are paid for by the teacher, although some districts give a small stipend for their teachers.

kashichen14 thanks for the info, teachers definitely deserve more money for their troubles 😂 As a student in the UK I’ve never noticed/wished for more decor (generally posters and things students have made on the subject or revision resources are expected) or something like flexible seating but I could see it helping some 🤷🏼‍♀️

I love the idea of representing the standards visually on the wall. Also, fantastic plan for the #CurrentlyBored.YouCouldAlsoCollett #TrendingNowOr #What’sHot

I have a designated day for each standard as well. Monday: Mechanics, Usage & Grammar, Tuesday: Speaking and Listening, Wednesday: Writing and Words (Vocab), Thursday: Nonfiction, and Friday: Fiction

I love this teaching style! I am doing something similar with my bulletin boards. I’m sure you inspired the thought process. I have a board with a quote from A Long Walk To Water, “Reading for writers is like training for athletes”. Then around that quote students will post something like you’re having your students do monthly. I may use your idea, since I had not flushed out exactly what I wanted. ;) Love this community! Great job!!

For objectives, I use SIOP standards -verb (read, write, sort, teach, etc.), content (adjectives, fractions, etc.), and support (with graphic organizers, with the help of a partner, with the story highlights, etc).

Love the “current favorites” board idea! Such a smart idea to plan the whole year’s templates now while you have time. Also, if your whiteboard is magnetic, I bet small magnets would be an easy way to display/switch them out.

I was going to do a similar “currently” checkin (inspired by the happy planner dashboards) as a monthly FlipGrid assignment. Those little trackers are cool!

I love seeing how teacher interpret standards in their communities. I have seen some great examples and have been modifying them for my classroom. I am a self-contained specialized setting for kids with mild cognitive delays. I have been using I can statements for their assessment, as it is easier for them to connect with. They can connect what they are doing and better evaluate (they are concrete kids). I am enjoying your skills idea though especially for literacy. I have a huge bulletin board at the back of the class that I was struggling to use. Now I think I have an idea. Entering the vortex....

I would love a dedicated video for workshop Wednesday's because we have shorter days on Wednesdays and I want to do something similar. but I don't know where to start. I like the idea of finding specific skills to focus on for each Wednesday. I'm going to start looking at my standards for that.

Side note: I spent half my summer trying to do Marie cat eye makeup, and finally gave up and took a lesson at Ulta, only to have the makeup artist confirm that my eye and lid shape makes it very hard. Bright side, I stepped up my general makeup game in the process.

Hello, When I went to TpT to get the reading and writing posters it only lists writing. Are both sets in the 1 set? I am a first year English teacher and I’m super excited. These posters will be great for my students.

When I was student teaching, I tried doing a Content Objective and a Skills/Language Objective for each grade level (it was a preK-grade 8 school). Luckily my new school is going to be 1 grade only (grade 6). Instead of #Currently, maybe #Trending? =D
