Our school wide policy is that students are expected to have their phones turned off or on silent and placed in their bags. The exception is if there is a class activity and the teacher has directed students to allow them to use their phone as a device for that activity specifically. It seems to work ok although students need frequent reminders of the expectation. I refuse to begin my lesson until phones are in bags.

OMG I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing. I’ve been looking for a way to update my phone procedures that doesn’t require a) confiscation and b) me repeating myself 8000 times a day. This is awesome, can’t wait to try it!!

+The Caffeinated Classroom Mrs. Marie , I fully applaud you for the methods that you are taking towards cell phones and towards distractions in general there which the whole point in most teachers' anger towards students with their cell phones out and being used is distraction and I basically say to other teacher tubers who are going through this who will confiscate things from their students is that My History from when I was an autistic student in school tells me that students can do distracting things or be distracted even without cell phones and the whole point to my responses are to come up with strategies that inspires students to not want to zone out in the first place because that is what I did when I got frustrated or overwhelmed or feeling like the method for the lesson being taught was doing nothing for me and it was never ever by using a cell phone or any electronics from home during class . I got in trouble from talking out in the middle of class on things that do not fit what was being taught to destress myself and to help me cope during the school day . Keep doing what you are doing and keep adding onto your technics and strategies because your students are loving you for this whereas other teachers deal with their students waning away from them just to have their student written up for insubordination and have the admin do the confiscating . I understand that it's a part of the school system and that's just how things work but what you are doing is a living example of how distractions can be stopped without escalation . - Dwight

In my school, we are only allowed phones at break lunch, or outside, not in class, not in moving times.

Well done! It sounds like it could be really good. What did you use as your rewards? I have some deep thinking to do about this - b/c what I have now is NOT working (the pockets in the classroom).

Sharon Sarai im not sure what happened in Wendy’s classroom but when my teachers tried it some kids would bring in old phones to put in the pocket and keep their real phone with them

I am in last year of primary and I have been wearing an Apple Watch that I had saved up to buy but I was recently told by one of my teachers that they hadn’t set a rule yet because no child had ever worn one of those watches...considering they are relatively new I understand slightly but they said that until they do set a rule I will not be able to wear it...I am confused as to why i am not as I have all of my notifications turned off and I only use it to tell the time and to locate my phone if I lose it, my parents also use it to see wear I am as I walk home now and I am not allowed my phone in school... do they have a right to tell me that I am not allowed to wear it??? it is no different to the average smartwatch with notifications turned off and it makes my parents feel secure with me walking home by myself...can somebody please help me???
