PRIOR KNOWLEDGE & POCKET POINTS | High School Teacher Vlog

The school year is FINALLY getting into a groove! This week we got started using Pocket Points (their reward suggestions were HILARIOUS!), and we did an escape room that forced students to access prior knowledge! Enjoy!

The Caffeinated Classroom LOL me too. I watched it every day after school. I laughed when you talked about Britney Spears Hit Me Baby One More Time. I remember when that was on there for weeks! I definitely wanted to hit her by the time her streak had ended LOL. Funny thing is, I actually don’t hate the song.

Where did you get those clear boxes for escape rooms? I tried searching on Amazon and couldn't find them. Those things look genius! Also I loved TRL!! ♥️ I forgot about that show until you mentioned it.

I got them at Michael's! They're pretty reasonable with one of their 40% off coupons!

Okay, off topic...what eyeliner do you use? Looks great at end of day, while Im here with it all transferred to the tops of my eyes. 🤪. Do you also recommend a good one for tightlining? Thanks. Love your content.

I love the pendant lights in your room so much that I went to Ikea and bought them myself! Problem: I don’t know how to hang them. I bought cords from amazon but realized the bulb doesn’t have anything to sit in. Any way you can share the link for the cords you used? LOVE THE VLOGS; glad you’re back!

The Caffeinated Classroom Thanks for the link! More in topic, I’d love to use pocket points in the classroom too. I teach MS RELA and we use class dojo. It’d be really easy to reward kids with dojo points for reaching certain pocket point goals.

Love your channel! I'm currently doing student teaching for my combo credential/master program. How do you execute the escape room? Does it involve movement by the kids? I have football players all in 1 period...it's like moving freight cars lol

  • @TheCaffeinatedClassroom

Thank you so much! As far as movement is concerned, it depends on the escape room. I've done it where students have to find clues all over campus, where they look through the room, and where they simply solve puzzles at their tables - this one kept them at their tables and was more of a breakout box than escape room...

I have heard teachers argue that TPT is only worksheets...not at all true! And as a mother of 4, I use it often. Although I am blessed my school participates in TPT schools. We all get an amount to spend each school year.

I subscribed and liked with notifications on🙂! I’m in the 11th grade in high school and I’m planning on being a teacher! Kids in my classes will be on their cellphones during the lessons and this would help them! I’m going to download it to help me self regulate more😊! Also, I was wondering what is your procedure for the bathroom? At my school kids like to ask to get out of class to hang out in the hallways🤦🏻‍♂️. I have some teachers who do passes the others do the sign in and out. I mainly use the bathroom during passing periods, lunch, before and the ending of school. I very occasionally need a bathroom break in class one time every week or two.

How do the students redeem the rewards you have set on pocket points?

  • @djthereplay

+The Caffeinated Classroom Mrs. Marie , There are times that I wish that you could tour the school districts and the schools in this country with that pocket points idea and try to inspire schools to win over the students better in place of having to confiscate devices , etc . just to force kids to listen to the teacher on any subject being taught that those students feel that doesn't matter to them . With that said , I hope you have an awesome year and you know what ? Maybe , just maybe a number of high school teachers should be nominated for saint hood too like you . - Dwight
