Pipe Cutter Restoration

Restoration of Old Vintage Pipe Cutter. This is a 2 inch 'Beaver' pipe cutter, manufactured by Square Built. I don't know the age of this tool. It belonged to my grandfather so I'd guess probably 1950s.

    Really like the resto but what I like the most is the John Deere green color on the cutter. Sharp!

    These videos are so much fun to watch and make a wish that I had a shop like this but I still do some of this kind of work on old tools that look pretty good when finished. I get ideas from your works of art too. Thanks for such good editing~!

    Excellently done sir . I am a fan of several different restoration channels from the U.S. , to across the Atlantic , to Asia, and back . All of the better restorers take the time for a few minor extras . An example is you removing the mold line on the handle . Was it structurally or functionally necessary ? No , but you have made it esthetically superior to the original. Now if only l could find restoration for my 75 year old body .

    I understand that metal parts that are treated with sandblasting, if not treated with japaning or similar, rust very quickly. And i think you place the metal pieces that you have treated with the sandblasting directly on the artifact that you are restoring. Congratulations for your content.

    I love the finished product. Excellent work! I'm just curious though as to why you didn't prime the bare metal before shooting it with your custom color.

  • @AcmeRestorations

    @AcmeRestorations

    3 жыл бұрын

    No need to prime for enamel on cast steel (unless you are trying to fill voids or something.) Personal preference. I've never had any adhesion issues with enamel and hardener when painting cast steel. Other metals, I'd use a primer if called for.

    The cutter blade? I made a mandrel for it to hold it on the lathe. Then I turned it slow against different grit whet stones to sharpen it. Then polished it. Then I forgot to include those video clips in the video. Sorry!
