1940s/1950s Oak Acorn Vending Machine Restored.
Restoration of vintage 1940s-1950s Acorn (Oak Manufacturing) vending machine. One of my subscribers asked in the comments if one of these old machines could be used to vend nuts, so this time I've restored this old Acorn to be a Cashew vendor. I hope you enjoy the video.

    When I read the title, I read that the restoration is nuts...but then at the end of the video I realized that the vending machine was for nuts...🙄...I love the little blue nut dispenser! 😍 ❤️ 😁

    I can't look at a little vending machine and not think of Tom Servo from Mst3K. I don't know why these restoration videos are so satisfying and relaxing but I'm loving it

    Using some tape as a palate to mix the epoxy is clever! Great work as always, it's fun to see old stuff get new life!

    Great restoration. Would of liked to see you return it to it's original colour with the bright red but hey its personal choice end of the day, its yours not mine, lol . Still looks fantastic no matter what 👍

    Actually the original color of this machine was kind of a dull metallic blue. Found it under many layers of paint. I didn't think it went well with the nuts.

    @@AcmeRestorations Are you sure it was paint? I used to have a bulk vending business and most of the machines are powder coated. Oh yeah, and cashews tend to go rancid and attract bugs.

    @@MikeL-FL These old acorns weren't powder coated. I powder coated my last one; you can tell the difference. I won't ever do that again though, because powder coating this odd cast white metal that these are made from is a nightmare. Other brands of vending machines though, especially newer are probably powder coated though, yes.

    Hello...enjoy the video on Acorn Oak Vintage Gumball Machines...I am restoring one myself and I am looking for a reliable place to get parts...do you sell parts? Do you have a 'go to' place to gather parts for machines like these, I need the brush springs and the large coin mechanism ? Also could you post a materials list of products you use, i.e. lubricants, polishes, etc. Thanks for any help...

    Maybe mute/lower/LP filter the audio while sand blasting. The compressor noise is like a root canal.

    www.moneymachines.com/. The glass is called a "globe". Make sure you know what machine you have before you buy.

    Careful washing the glass globes, water slide decals can come off unintentionally!

    Not really. You take the lock out of the top and the whole thing slides up off the base so you can get the coins out. Then it slides back down. You don't have to take any of the top apart or take nuts out or anything.

    Thats a gum ball machine, you put a penny or a dime in it and turn the nob until it gives you some gum.

    Nice job. Don’t worry about the comments on the color. Once something is not original anymore, then I think you are free to put your personal touch on it. Plus it’s not like this is some heirloom antique piece. Enjoy it.

    Thanks. These were only ever made in two colors: red and metallic-ish blue. This one's going in my kitchen, so I thought the white/brown combo worked well. Doesn't matter what the project; I always get two complaints about the color :)

    Acme restoration: Sterilizing with alcohol,it touches food. Previous restoration guy:What is hygiene,who cares about sanitization... & Paints the vessel.😂 Extra marks to you for maintaining Hygiene 👍

    Honestly I'd have left it at a nickel, but it was a lot easier to replace the coin wheel than that awesome sticker!

    Is JB Weld your go to for small cracks and holes in cast material? Oh and color choice was perfect for this. Red or blue would have looked strange for cashews. Maybe even a tan would work.

    Yes for cast aluminum. I also use a product called "Steel Stick". Works great. For cast iron I would weld.

    Why do you use shiny paint over an unfinished surface? Shine must only be used over surfaces finished as if they were going to a chrome plating. Otherwise it's just glossing. Do you imagine your car painted like this?
