They Don't Make 'em Like This Anymore! Restoration of a Vintage 5-Ton Truck Jack.
Restoration of Vintage 5-Ton Truck Jack
This #145 "Simplex" 5-ton truck & bus jack was manufactured in the USA by Templeton, Kenley & Co.. 1939 is the last year I can find it available in their catalog. This one may be older. The jack body and parts are made from drop-forged steel. It weighs 30 lbs. (13.6 kg) and it cost $10.00 in 1939.

I've got four of these. My father and I used them to jack up cottages at the beach
It looks beautiful :)

Outstanding! Looking like a professional 🥰💯
Nicely done, sir. I remember my father had one of these in his pickup, solid, durable and could work forever with failing. Sometimes old school is the best tool.

Hopefully you meant without failing?😉
Very nice 👍🏼
I was wondering, just how much that old girl has lifted in its 80 year life ? Very well done, I rang the bell, See Ya Texas
Wonderful restriction ..nice choice of finished colour as well
I am sure you think about how many before you have used this tool, now with your hard work some one in the future will think I wonder who the guy was that restored this amazing tool. Thank you.
well done and very nicely represented I have just subscribed myself to your channel
Very well made, perfect restoration. Like the color choice. Thanks!
Magnificent job. I would rather use it as a display piece.
Very good work it’s better than it was new, looks awesome
Actually, I know this as a railroad foot jack, as it was used by railroads in groups or gangs to lift trains back onto tracks since the foot could get under the wheels and also the various parts of the train trucks. My grandfather handed 1 down to my dad and I believe it is still at his house. They would lift like anything but were heavy as hell.

This model is a bit different than the railroad jack. They made a lot of railroad jacks, but their catalog refers to this one as a truck/bus jack. Very close though.
Wonderful restoration. I too have a Simplex mechanical jack, of about the same era. Its smaller and came in a tools lot I bought some time ago. Plans are to restore it.

WHOO! You did a lot of really involved, good work on this item 😅😅🔧🔧👆👆
Wow! They don't make them like that any more!
Hi bro 👋👋👋 good to see you 🤝🤝🤝 awesome restoration Jack 👍👍👍💣👌🏽
Nice work, good job
Nice work, man
Very nice!
They DO make them like that but they're far from cheap! Simplex doesn't make that model but their ultra heavy duty jacks remain an industry standard.I grab any Simplex or Duff-Norton jack I can score (jacks are most effective in multiples to allow shimming one at a time).

Good luck! I hope you find a local one; shipping will be a ton!
Very goooooooood !
Cool. BTW, do you make details for your Range Rover? Some factory-made things can be faulty, but you can make them yourself and better.

Probably will as its getting old. Do you have a link/video for something specific? I'm always interested in Range Rover content. Thanks for watching.
Um ótimo trabalho, uma peça fantástica e ficou muito bem restaurada mas gostaria de ter visto como faz para descer o carro...
Craftsman!!
Very nice. Do you know if this would have been included with the truck when sold or were they bought separately?
@AcmeRestorations

They were sold in a catalog, so I assume separately.
SOUND!!!!!!!
Top
nice 👍🇺🇲🙏😆😄
I have used one of these before I remember that it was pretty scary letting it back down with alot of weight on it, if you weren't right on top of it with all your body weight it would spring back and hit you what a trip
Beautiful restore job!where did you get the jack handle?any links to it or custom made?
@AcmeRestorations

This jack still had the original handle. Very lucky.
To go down, do you flip a lever and then pump it back down, a click at a time?

Yes exactly.

Perfeito!
Your sandblasting makes a lot of dust back in my face. Let us know next time so I can put on a dust mask first.

Basically the same. A little different style and a few different features. I posted the 1939 catalog listing in the Community section.
