Pinarello "Asolo" restoration, Part 1.

Спорт

This is the first part of a little three part series I filmed with Amazing Shop, Munich.
An increasing number of classic old racing bikes are coming into the shop getting traded in for newer bikes. Some of the bikes are even 20 or 30 years old, so the Italian steel frame models are now turning into valuable collectors items once they are cleaned, polished and restored.
In these three short clips we follow a beautiful 30 year old Pinarello "Asolo" in full Campagnolo gear from it's initial state coming into the shop, through striping, cleaning and rebuilding all the way onto riding it again. Part 1, shown here, focusses on the striping and cleaning. The mechanic and main restoration motivator is Daniel Loris. Parts 2 & 3 will be released through out the following week, so stay tuned.

I own a 1999 Pinarello Surprise with a Campagnolo Daytona( very rare!) group and Mavic CXP-33 rims complemented by Conti GP 3000 tires. I had the bike custom painted inhouse by their famous master painter. It rests in my bedroom and is probably the best preserved bike from that time, and the only 2 tone paintjob for that frame. it has the original logo not the new one. it's my baby nothing i've ever seen since i bought it comes close to it, it's a piece of art and i would rather die then sell it. Pinarello is in my opinion what car lovers find in a Ferrari or Lamborghini, pure italian and something very special. Nothing or no other country displays so much love for what they design or build. Most of my furniture is Italian i love everything they do in design and i wouldnt accept anything other then Italian design!

I have a early 1980s proctor racing bike. A man named proctor made racing frames for the canadian racing team. He was known for his fine detail work on his frames. My bike is renolds 531 double butted frame with all campanolo record components Vintage steel racing bikes have really gone up in price on e-bay

For those in the comments... Using steel wool and brass brushes on chrome is absolutely fine. Chome is way harder than steel or brass, and only removes rust from the surface. Try finding any rusted chrome parts and scrubbing it with a piece of steel wool or brass brush. You'll find it very hard to scratch but easy to remove rust. If you do this on a bike, test it on a hard too see spot and do it gently at first though...

So you took the fork off... which didn't need to be by the look of the fresh grease, but you left the crankset on? And using WD-40 on anything is the hallmark of a rank amateur.

Some tips, don't ever spray WD 40 ( 1:35) over stickers like you did on the fork, it will dissolve them over time. Rub the sticker with some non corrosive cleaner and leave it alone, Better still tape the sticker off so nothing can touch it, clean the part around it and never touch it again. Some other things i noticed you took the ball bearings apart on the fork, they looked very good. Just leave it be they were your least problem on this bike maintenance job,

I can't watch the video, that gives me pain. This is no restoration but a rape. You shouldn't use steel wool to brush the chrome!!!! And for heaven's sake no steel brush!!!! Please use a chrome polish paste (ako polish) and a soft material (cotton) and patience instead of mechanised tools.
