It wasn't even that she did terribly, it's that Jean was fainting and passing out every time she used her powers.

Jean wasn't weak. Marvel portrayed her as the damsel in distress for Scott and Logan.

Phoenix is very visually appealing, the claws, the wings like shields, she can even travel to other galaxies, Jean really got the whole combo with The Phoenix. She also became in a more deep character thanks to this power.

(the first recorded team of Avengers in human history)

2:25 Very underrated feat, considering even Rogue couldn’t even lift it. She barely managed to keep it from falling before it collapses at all. The sheer fact that Jean manages to levitate that tower-dome thing makes it her best feat without Phoenix in the 90’s animated series.

We need to count that her powers were restricted by Charles, he explained that to Phoenix on the astral plane episode, that means she did a lot even with that barriers.

Jean was never weak she simply needed her moment....

She went from being telekinetic and into a pyrotechnic.

This series had so much blood sweat and tears put into its animation.

I only remember her fainting like 85% of the time.

If memory serves her portrayal was pretty comic book accurate. Jean Grey didn't become a powerhouse in Marvel until after the Phoenix and Dark Phoenix saga and that's because it was one of the best runs in Marvel comics. So because those comic arcs did well people fell in love with the character so Marvel started doing more with her and making her more powerful and prominent.

I loved how they approach to a Jean Grey more sensitive and connected with the feelings from people around her. The crowd always want to watch powers and action, but x men TAS is beyond of that. However, we could see wonder things from her, things that nobody could ever do with or without phoenix.

9:23 - 11:30 I honestly think these were Jean's best moments where she was ACTUALLY useful. And reactive. And powerful.

Jean certainly showed some muscle tone as Phoenix. This lady got guns!❤️💪💪❤️

Even if they made her dirty thanks to the 90' and the cliches of her being weak, (to have a lady to save) still has the best adaptation of the Phoenix and Dark Phoenix Saga and she had cool moments like when she helps against Juggernaut, when she saves Rogue from Miss Marvel and how she was very useful in the space mission. The only thing I didn't like was the sound and color of her powers I like more the pink powers from the comics, blue and electric sound looks more like something related to Storm. But I love Jean since I was a kid and she is still my fav Marvel hero. I always cry at the end of the Phoenix Saga when she sacrifices herself to protect the crystal. Also I have to say that her voice actress was perfect, cute for Jean but evil for Dark Phoenix. 90's kids like me know that X-Men were immportant and even if now everyone loves the Avengers, Marvel would be nothing without the mutants and the X-Men.

No. This series' version of the Dark Phoenix Saga sucked because they didn't have Nightcrawler and Colossus and Jean didn't die in the end.

The story adaptation in the show still made an impact without them because they were not the characters that made the storyline important, sorry. 🤷‍♀️

Never got into Jean but even I have to admit that making her weak in this show was the wrong decision.

The First Fight scene sets the tone for the entire video. Jean: You’re dealing with the wrong X-Men Seconds later: Falls to the ground yelling Aaahhhhh Professor X: Remember this isn’t a game 😂😂😂😂 SN: How did she get to go on every mission but not Jubilee? Jean needed to be saved every single time by Wolverine, Cyclops or Rogue.

She appears to move small objects, but objects heavier then herself she can't, example she can't fly upwards but slow her decent slowly if falling...❤

Did anyone notice that at 17:50 when the Phoenix says "Do not despair, the Phoenix survives", it's implied that Jean was killed by whatever happened just before that (I don't quite remember what it was) but that the only important fact is that the Phoenix should stay alive. Then we see the strange figure of Jean whose body is limp and face is covered indicating lack of life (her body is displayed similarly to later episodes when the Dark Phoenix gains its conscience back and presents dead Jean to the X-Men). At that point it's only important that the Phoenix can just utilize Jean's body in 'zombie' fashion after reviving her. (even when she is showing here Jean's inanimate body the Phoenix can still steal her voice). In later scene we see the Phoenix fighting and no sign of Jean (because she's dead) then at 18:40 that does contortion Jean makes in the air as they all appear in the craft is Phoenix reviving her again (only to say goodbye to everyone, really).

​@tashadent150 Catherine Disher was in many of the Marvel/Capcom fighting games. She was Storm and Psylocke in the Children of the Atom game. She was Psylocke in Marvel Super Heroes game. Storm in Xmen vs Street Fighter. She was Storm and Psylocke in Marvel vs Capcom 2.

She wasn't weak. The writers underutilized her. She definitely had her cool moments. People are just quick to label women who aren't commanding "bad-asses" as weak.

No, she was weak. Objectively weak. Compare her to her Evolution version. In X-Men Evolution we have a younger Jean that has a much better control of her powers than in the 90's show. And in the latter seasons she becomes even more powerful (especially after the "Power Surge" episode).

@@acryliq An "objectively weak" character wouldn't have: fought the Morlocks while being tied and blindfolded (before being knocked unconscious), wouldn't have telepathically assaulted the Juggernaut using Cerebro, wouldn't have levitated a piece of a building to keep it from falling on a child, wouldn't have saved her teammates in space using both telepathy AND telekinesis at the same time, nor would she have been seen as worthy of wielding the power of a cosmic entity after sacrificing herself. Her not being written as a bad-ass or written to do less because writers didn't know what to think of psychic women doesn't mean she was weak. There are different ways of showing strength.

The first clip literally encapsulates everything wrong with Jean from TAS. "You're tangling with the wrong X-Man!" *Immediately almost dies and needs saving*. Jean Grey is my favourite Marvel character but they really did her dirty in this series 🤣

That won't happen anymore, if you saw the series after Phoenix, Jean Grey was more strong, that's because in the episode when Charles faced Dark Phoenix in the astral plane, he explained that he puit mental barriers on Jean, as a way to avoid a Carrie destruction. The Phoenix not only saved Jean on that space mission, she also release her potential.
