“I’m favorite I got 2 flushes” - Sammy Farha
@stoopidpants
3 жыл бұрын
If you listen, a few of the other players say something like "are you really going to try that?". Back in the old old days, just before internet poker, a lot of pro players would say AK o > AKs because you can make 2 flushes instead of one. This was a real thing a lot of people did, so he might be partially joking here, but this was an old school "angle" before people applied much math to the game.
@Duzykutas
2 жыл бұрын
@@stoopidpants No, Farha is directly making fun of Hellmuth here. Hellmuth once made a bet with some other player that an unsuited hand is favorite against a suited hand and all the pros thought it was hilarious. So this is what Farha is referring to. Shows just how much Phil relies on his incredible luck to win in poker.
@stoopidpants
2 жыл бұрын
@@Duzykutas Oh, yes you are correct. I was just saying this is something they used to actually discuss. Hellmuth being lucky I will have to respectfully disagree with. I remember something from, I think, the original super/system. Brunson was in a hand with Sklansky in stud hi/lo (I can't remember if it was 8 or better or declare) and I can't remember the exact hands, but they kept raising back and forth on the first 4 cards until they got it in. Brunson had something like a pair and 3 to a low (again I don't remember the exact hands at all) and Skalansky just had 4 to a low with maybe a gutshot or something. Point is, Sklansky admonished Brunson for getting so much in as something like a 60/40 dog and Brunson wrote, in the book, "I realized I had to take this math stuff more seriously". It's kinda shocking, if you look back to the real old timers, how long it took for math to actually make its way into the minds of some of the best in the game. As someone that's played at a moderate to high level since 2003, it's hard to believe guys like Brunson, Cloutier, probably Hellmuth got so far and were as successful as they were based on pure instinct. Anyway, yeah you're right about the specific jab to Hellmuth.
Phil is so much fun to watch. Many of my favorite players all at one table!
This poker table is so much fun, They need to bring back everyone at some point.
