Andy Serkis is great i'm just not just sure there is a story that need to be told. I fear that the movie will run into the same problem as the failed Gollum game, there is a no adventure to be told.

Hopefully they have enough leverage to prevent executives from destroying the films like they did with ROP and TH.

As long as they don't make 3 movies out of it

I want to be excited about this film, but with Hollywood's record of screwing up the best franchises even with good directors involved, I'm not yet holding my breath.

I have not paid attention to all the online commentary over the years since Jackson & co.'s LOTR. It may all be very well known to most Tolkien/LOTR fans but to me it seems very surprising that Jackson, after the massive success of his LOTR movies, piles of Oscars, worldwide acclaim...somehow didn't have the leverage/control when it came to a follow up project and could be forced into all kinds of nonsense in the Hobbit trilogy. What happened that forced him to "do it their way"? And how stupid was it for whichever studio exec(s) to insist on going far afield from the genius of Tolkien, who...you know, created the world, the wonderful characters, the story arcs, amazing depth and myriad details ..."nah, we don't need to care about what Tolkien actually wrote, we can make it better".

I'd like to be excited, but after the Hobbit trollogy I can't trust them anymore.

As much as I love the films about the third age I really wish Peter Jackson and his team would do a film about the first age I understand there’s probably issues with that and im not sure how much of the rights he has to the entire legendarium but I still think at least conceptually speaking this would be something to behold. Seeing his take on Morgath and the dragons and and all of that would truly be spectacular especially if he had the same budget rings of power did for each film

As long as they stick close to Tolkien writings, don't make it woke and ghey, use practical effects, etc. it should be awesome.

I’m excited in the sense that I’m longing to see more fantasy films on the big screen, and with Peter and Andy behind the production, I know the film will look fantastic. My only concern is that they’re working with vague and loose source material, which means they’re going to have to fill in a lot of gaps. This leaves more room for potential error because they don’t have a fleshed out storyline from the books to guide them. I personally would rather see Peter Jackson adapt another fantasy book series. There is a wealth of fantasy to adapt. There’s also the problem of Aragorn. They’re either going to have to recast the actor or deage him. Neither prospect sounds appealing to me. I feel like this might be a well-made but forgettable film. Of course, it’s too early to judge. Seeing a new Lord of the Rings film certainly appeals to my nostalgic sensibilities, but I just wonder if it’s the right choice artistically.

There is definitely reason to be optimistic about this but I'm worried that LOTR will turn into a star wars like situation where they will continually milk the franchise and not just let a good thing stay good. Overall I'm optimistic though.

Love when I discover a great new channel like this! You should do a video on the LOTR movie tie-in video games, I feel like those don't get enough love.

Emotionally charged character arcs make for good films and knowing something profound is going to happen doesn't alter its emotionally impact; the Sam and Rosie arc is such an example; but what does spoil it is seeing it again and again. We don't need to see Pippin and Merry grow up more than once hence Scouring of the Shire scenes would have been almost redundant. My problem is that Aragorn and Gollum have already had profound character arcs and we have seen them change (for better or for worse). Aragorn deciding to join the Fellowship and then accept the re-forged sword i.e. he at last accepted his lineage, and Gollum has had his brief escape from the rings' power over him and also been seen as a very convincing liar. So what will be the new "special moments" in The Hunt for Gollum for the key characters?

Yes! There is hope for good movies in Tolkien's world.

I'm sceptical on this, as there is very little source material to go by. What is going to be the premise of the film? What's the story of the characters? Gollum is obviously striving to get his ring back, but the ring can't make an appearance except in flashbacks. Gandalf and Aragorn want to interrogate Gollum to help their quest, but that quest is told in another movie.
