Not sure if it's been said yet in the comments but the sign they pass between each member is showing what not only connects them but what each of them are individually. Mitch starts with LGBTQ+ then passes that to Scott who also is in the LGBTQ+ community, then flips it to man and passes it to Avi who flips his sign to Jewish and flips again to American, then passes that to Kevin, who flips it to black then to Christian and passes it to Kirsten who flips it to Latina then to Woman. I personally feel that this version of the song along with the signs is what this song was meant to be. I think John Lennon would have been proud of this version.

Quite possibly Avi’s greatest contribution to PTX was encouraging and instructing Kevin in his singing!!! Their FIVE part harmonies (whether with Avi or Matt) are truly special!!! To me, this has always been a synopsis of what makes PTX great…individually they are very VERY talented, but as a group they are STUNNING!!!

Oh, I'm not sure it's the reacting that's tough. It's the analysis part that's hard in moments like these. Sometimes, the reaction is all that's needed and it becomes the analysis when all is said and done. Music is meant to be heard with the ears but felt with the heart. The head doesn't need to say much, when it's done right...and Pentatonix definitely pulls out all the stops here.

Imagine by Pentatonix may be one of the most important videos of this century. This group took a classic, timeless song of tolerance and peace and modernized it as only they can. They are a perfect example of what respect and love can be like. Five people with differences in race, religion, gender, and sexuality can do beautiful things when they work together. I cried when I saw and heard this the first time. I still usually tear up when they go into Wall of Sound mode.

Not a word, but a reaction.

Although not my favorite song (a version of utopia that will never realized), PTX does a fantastic job on this both visually and harmonically. I am constantly amazed how groups like PTX and Home Free are able to "remake" a song into their own... not just "cover" them. This song really showcased Avi's abilities. Truly a great version of this iconic song. And, as I always am able to say, Jen has once more analyzed the snot out of it so that I will never hear it as I did before -> now knowing all of those little nuances that she pointed out. Thanks Jen for sharing your special talents! Love it!

  • @IroAppe

I totally get you with the utopia. However what we can do, is trying to hold that up. As it shows, if the great majority is behind the idea, then there will still be violence, but less of it, and it will also be acted upon. Little violent groups don't have much of a chance in a majority that stands against them. A functioning democracy still has its enemies, but as long as the majority stays strong, it can still serve as a safe haven. Germany is still a relatively safe haven right now, although some forces now also begin to rise here, and majorities are getting shifted. The U.S. are obviously already way past that, although they also still hang onto that thread: it's not over yet.

It's like they were proving a point that while each voice is stunning in its' own right and should be listened to and appreciated, it can and should very easily harmonize with the other voices around them to create a beautiful harmonious melody together. It is an important lesson. We are each important and should be heard but not to the exclusion of anyone else. We would find the world would be a more wonderful place to live in.

I love all of them, it’s like with my kids, you can’t pick favorites, but there that special different bond you have with one of them that the other have with her father or something.. I *really* wish there were a way they could do this live, *with* the cards. That first card that they pass around is so dependent on graphic manipulation in post production that it just can't be done. For now. One of these years e-ink technology will get to this level, and when it does I expect Pentatonix to jump on board faster than you can say "Imagine." I'm old enough to remember hearing the news reports on December 8, 1980. John Lennon, murdered. He was just 40 years old. We're just short of the 42nd anniversary of his death, and for those of us of a certain age the shock and grief are just as strong now as they were then. I wish John could have seen what Pentatonix did with his iconic song. It would have made him proud.

I remember hearing on the radio he'd been shot. It was shattering! Then decades later I saw on TV the protests against gun violence after the Stoneman Douglass School shooting. In the New York protest, they caught up with Paul McCartney in the march, and asked why he joined the protest. He basically said, "My best friend died of gun violence right around the corner, you bet I'm protesting".... And I was destroyed in tears all over again. Pentatonix said something with this, and it's so important.

I've seen this well over 100 times and it still gets me! I love when groups use their platform to express such important messages. So many groups lose that humility and lose touch with their humanity. And that's where I tend to jump off. Once their egos take over, I lose interest. When the egos come before the music and the message, it might sound ok, but it loses its meaning. Great reaction! Tears are absolutely allowed!❤

You did it! My absolute favorite version of this amazing song. I LOVE your insights as always, but as important, I love your honest emotional response and connection with the important message of this song and arrangement. To me, this is still the apex of Pentatonix, who bring it for EVERY song, but this one is technically masterful as always, but they use their incredible talent and strategic choices to perfectly illustrate themes that we all need to recognize daily. It's just the best. So are you. Thank you for this week!

Hi Jennifer, Thank you for another great reaction/analysis video. It was great to see how their voices affect your emotions as that's what music is all about. Pentatonix are one of the few groups who's voices really get to me, When it comes to Xmas music, I don't bother listening to anyone else as Pentatonix are my favourite part of Christmas, No-one else even comes close. The group Superfruit: (Mitch and Scott) will have you smiling, laughing as well as the odd tear. Their Defying Gravity from Wicked is crazy good, would love to see your musical theatre reaction. 🤗 Thanks again. Jay 🌍💚

John Lennon was a genius in message, music and delivery. If there's a place where God sends Angels for singing lessons it's Pentatonix. You can't get much better than that. 🕊️
