"What is Love" by Haddaway has become THE shuffle dance track...it's tracked under almost every shuffle dance on video! Would love to hear this for the 60s (Nancy Sinatra, early Beatles), 70s (Carl Douglas "Kung Fu Fighting", Bee Gees!), 80s (B-52s! The Clash!), 00s (Kylie Minogue, Madonna's best), 10s (Psy Gangnam Style!) too.

"Finally" is my favorite by far. I love that dissonant major 7th note that you mentioned, beginning at 14:20. So cool. First time seeing you react. Loved it! Subscribed. You've got to check out Sohyang's performance of "Arirang Alone" from Immortal Songs 2 at kzread.info/dash/bejne/rHqt0MaEabm1c84.html. "Arirang" is a very old Korean folk song with great significance to all of the Korean people. It is sung in Korean, but the video in the link displays English subtitles automatically.

Mine is the switch to, and brief, Everybody Dance Now. What Kevin did with that was insane! Plus, I danced my ass off to that song in the clubs back then. lol

Mitch released on his channel him singing Billie Eilish "Your Power". Worth a listen.

@@JenniferGlatzhofer: my old vocal range is C#1-A5, register used subharmonic, chest, chest fry, growl. Now: C3- A4 register used: head, mixed, chest.

Everyone needs to realize how rare it is to have an authentic counter-tenor in a group, Matt’s fabulous, but sometimes I miss Avi’s basso profundo! Having those timbres in the same group at the same time was miraculous! Matt is wonderful with his lyric bass in today’s PTX-perfect for today’s aesthetic!

Matt is great but while he covers the sound effects/beat excellent as Avi did, he doesn't have that low bass that Avi has. His great singing voice doesn't contrast with the group its up in their range, but it doesn't stand out in the group songs like Avi's did.@@JenniferGlatzhofer

You are the first reactors to mention that crunchie chord in la da dee, la da dow... I get shivers every time. It’s quick but they are so clever aren’t they. As much as I LOVE Mitch's new cover and would suggest it along with everyone else, I think you'd die for the PTX cover of Kiiara's Gold. I rec you do that one first... Mitch is insane. If you do it, make sure you've heard the original first.

i'm so glad you noticed 14:06 - that chord is one of my favorite parts of the medley and it always goes unnoticed :)

"I didn't want it to end" Pretty much everyone's reaction at the end.

This medley is PERFECT. This has been playing all summer of 2021 in my car and it was sooooo good. So much fun. Never realized how the 90's was such a fun ride for music. Mitch and Kirstin are the highlitght here.

I am a Pentatonix fan and when I saw a reactor I didn't know was doing "90's Dance Medley" I had to watch and listen. I really enjoyed your reaction and analysis. I don't know much about singing and I'm so bad I don't even sing "Happy Birthday" at family birthday parties, but I think I learned something, maybe a lot from your comments. Thank you. I see a several commenters have suggested "Amazing Grace" and I would strongly agree. I would also love to see you do "Daft Punk" and "Dance of the Sugar Plumb Fairy" (two of their three Grammy's) and "Bohemian Rhapsody". If you have already heard them that doesn't matter. Although a first reaction is great, just having your comments and analysis would be terrific. Thanks again for the great reaction video and I am looking forward to seeing more.

It was so wise for them to allow for the electronic voice manipulation to give honor to the popular style for that period. Made it so much more real.

The WEIRDEST part of listening to Pentatonix doing this 90'ies dance medley is that they're so amazingly good and so fun to listen to that even people like myself who absolutely dislike dance music in general and the 90'ies/00's in particular is that I enjoyed this medley as well. Since I liked some of Daft Punks music (selected parts, not the most dancey umph-umph-umph stuff) I absolutely loved (and still do) Pentatonix Daft Punk medley. As a musician I can appreciate just how complex and advanced their arrangements are and how extremely skilled they truly are in order to give us one amazing song/video after another. I'm not into modern pop either but I still enjoy their covers of them as well simply because they sound absolutely amazing and have a tendency to make me drop my jaw. I can't imagine how fun this medley must be for all the people who love all the tracks (17 if I remember correctly) in this medley.

Doh - I’ve listened to this many, many times and never connected the meaning of the bounce around my headphones to the lyric “everywhere” 🤦‍♀️ Loved the analysis and details, thank you!

Great reaction! As always I love your expert technical analysis! I always love Pentatonix great sound and arrangement, although I must admit that I don't really know a lot of these songs because by the time the 90s rolled around I was mostly listening to my real musical love, which is classical (except for when I am feeling nostalgic and listen to oldies for a bit). In any case, it's another great Pentatonix performance and I will continue to watch for PTX reactions from you! 🙂

I so enjoy your takes on PTX - I think I read another's comment about "1/2 fan girl, 1/2 Subject Matter Expert" - I have to agree, and its riveting. PTX is the bomb, no question. You're approach to express to us WHY they're the bomb - pure entertainment (with a little vocal pedagogy thrown in for good measure!) Thanks for the ride.

If you missed out on Havanna or Amazing Grace, you should definitely watch that. Also their recent original song „Coffee in bed“ is killer!

I would recommend you listen to Hallelujah, Sound of Silence and even Bohemian Rhapsody and of course Mary Did You Know. You would appreciate their harmonies as well as their individual sounds. I'll be checking to see that you do so I can see your reaction to what we call Mitch slapped.

Great analysis of vocal techniques! Really adds value to a reaction. Would love to here you reaction /analysis to other PTX (even if you’ve heard them before, like the Daft Punk Medley). I don’t know when you stopped listening to them, but they have a some amazing original songs “Happy Now” is my favourite, personally. I’d love to hear your takes on “Imagine” (where you get to here Kevin’s singing more), and “Havana” too.

It's for non other then PTX's amazing beatboxer Kevin "KO" Olusola. Its just him, in his home studio, singing, beatboxing and making music with his looper, this Man is a Beast. In my view he is the most talented member of the group. I'm not taking away anything from Scott, Mitch, Kirsty, or Matt and Avi, but here's the low down on Kev. At age 5 he started to play a songs from the radio on a toy keyboard his dad bought for him on X-Mass, 3 days after he opened it ...by ear alone. His dad saw his gift and automatically put him in professional lessons for Piano but Kev also wanted more pro lessons as the years went on, and by the age of 10 he was being taught professionally on the Piano, Saxophone and Cello. The Cello was his main instrument but he is classically taught on all 3 instruments and has preformed in Carnegie Hall twice as a soloist, once for Sax and the other Cello and that's before he was 17. He is the first person to invent and master Cello boxing, mixing classical Cello and urban hip hop beatboxing together. He's also a writer and brilliant music producer. He has also gotten his degree in Pre-Med and Asian Studies from Princeton and speaks perfect Mandarin Chinese, all this before the age of 21. When he finally met Scott and the other members of PTX to audition for The Sing Off on NBC they had only been a group for one day. HI Jen, I heard this a few weeks ago and I was one of your subs suggesting Pentatinox and this newer Dance Medley. I was thinking if i can get Jennifer to listen to this , she is going to fall over. (lol) I am pretty sure you liked it. I am sure you grew up with a lot of these songs and you seemed to know a lot of them. Pentatinox is kind of jaw dropping to me. They seem to have a very high level of artistry and they are detailed as you pointed out with their singing techniques and even their videos are well thought out. Loved it I live for watching people go through that, and to think that's the register he uses for the "guitar" solo in the Rhapsody cover. when they sung "can't you feel your heart beat fast" Kirstin got you too, you are now Khristened into the pentaholic fold. To think that Kevin and Matt do constant vocal acrobatics carries throughout the whole song(s). Matt's lyrical bass, I think they added auto-tune to commemorate Cher who was the first to use it. Your perfect pitch is something you don't talk about, but it makes it so that I enjoy your reactions/analysis. Did you like how they ended on Finally?

It still boggles my mind that we have a group like PTX who, apart from their individual tremendous vocal talent and skill, work together so well. The magic in their music is in the superb arrangements. Other acappella powerhouse groups like Voctave, with their arranger Jamie Ray, are also giften in this regard. They're all awesome, but yes, Mitch's counter-tenor is otherworldly.

For the record, Pentatonix has Ben Bram as the "sixth member" - and arranger. He doesn't sing but helps frame out the way their voices fill the space.

Hi Jennifer! New listener here to your channel and I am very impressed by your breakdowns! You truly have the vocal knowledge and ability to dissect things that even other trained singers might not recognize. I listened to three or four people's breakdowns of some of Pentatonix's songs and yours were, by far, the most technical and informative and gave the most insight into not only how the singers were singing, but the different techniques they use and the varied uses of pitch, tone, placement, etc. You are really fun to listen to and I'm an instant subscriber to your channel! I am also a musical theater performer and have performed in several local community theaters in productions such as Godspell (Jesus), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Reuben), Oklahoma (Jud), Disney's Tarzan (Kerchak), Spamalot (Sir Robin), and Disney's Beauty and the Beast (Beast). My voice is a gift as I have only had two years of vocal instruction when I was in college in the early 90's. That's one of the reasons why I love your breakdowns. I can hear the things you mention about the voices and I can relate to how I might have sung that and then I listen and try to match what you've discussed and it always seems to make sense and makes it easier to sing something - so thank you! I feel like I'm getting almost free vocal instruction from you via your breakdowns! You rock! I always wonder if I could have made it on Broadway and it's sometimes fun to think about that. People tell me that I'm good enough to be there but that's a very subjective thing, as you know. For now, I'll continue to have fun singing as a side thing and continue to perform in community theater productions. Thanks again and I look forward to more of your breakdowns! Thanks for covering this one, Jennifer! Hope we hear more PTX reactions soon - they just released a killer album of original songs as well as a stunning cover of "Amazing Grace" that is not to be missed. Have to disagree with you about Mitch Grassi, though, actually his voice is pretty mediocre for residents of his planet - seriously, no human being should be able to have the incredible tone and control of the human voice that Mitch makes look so easy (I know it isn't - that's what I tell myself so go with it). Kirstie has had classical training and was in a musical.

Pentatonix latest video " Kid on Christmas ft Meghan Trainor". Not a capella, kinda retro and excellent!

Depends what you mean by dance music though. In Goth clubs they'd swing dance to The Cult. In gay clubs they'd slow dance to Celine or ABC or Sade. In punk clubs it was skinner bop to ska and dub and spaz out to Planet Claire (B-52s). In Jamaican clubs theyd grind to dancehall, reggae and rap. In metal and industrial clubs they'd mosh to Rammstein, Metallica, Bootsauce and Skinny Puppy. It's endless. In Lindy Hop and Tango class, another whole list of tracks... Heck everything in dance music.

But ya another follow-up so in order from top to bottom; mitch is a counter-tenor or if u wanna use JUST tenor u can do that also it’s more counter-tenor because of the ranges he has + voice, Kristin or what I call her and some other peeps call her kirstie she is a soprano, scott is the baritone, matt is the bass (new+current) replacing avi (original bass), and kevin or my prefer- nickname (kev) is the beatboxer of the group so basically he’s a real life drum-kit + kickstand or at other times he will turn into a acid drip with those sound effects lol smh man but ya he also has incredible flow and technique to his philosophical beats, matt as the bass really addresses the low-proximity drag he has with his voice not to mention richness and raspy with a dash of wit in there he also has the range for most basses would dreamt of hitting or being able to drop down to a specific note meaning A2-D7 or so in that column

If by some reason u guys wanna know who sings the highest of all the singers in the world it would be mitch by a tad I mean a tad he has 6 octaves but can go up to 8 octaves he also has 2 tones but some peeps will say 1 but don’t buy into it the texture of his voice is so thin and so soft and light like he had a high voice like a girls since his whole life/childhood and he was made fun of for having a girls voice and such he can belt so high like no other singer even counting females ofc cus we can assume mitch is both genders obviously lol but ya that part where u said he went to head mix wasn’t actually in his head mix during that segment of the song verbally or emotionally, having a leg point during those vocal fry’s or string attachment in the song in any particular pathway. But ya just fyi my boy mitch wasn’t in his head mix part of his voice yet u would hear it decisively of how warm and collected it sounds well not the words I would use for term of phrase but it should get u guys going and started on what word I was intending on using there to fully exercise what mitch can do it’s quite rare/extraordinaire u won’t find any1 like him or if all rarely anyone like him that has a voice like that the dampening of his voice the cohesive tongue movements he does to warm up his vocals and/or the pedal he enormously emits to by having a range like he does quite frankly is challenging to do what he does. He’s very rare to a point where every time u see a male u think “oh they need to take a breath in the middle or patches along the bridge, or even beginning some intros” of songs but he doesn’t he’s the only male that doesn’t need to do that cus he has all the range and voice to play with plus tinker with along all sorts of passages he has I mean god forbid me I honestly think he has like 7 registers even tho in a natural human ur suppose to have 3 I mean it makes sense when he’s prolly the only one that has reached 8 octaves and 2 tones in the universe I mean there’s a few female singers that has 7 octaves and 2 tones but as a male having 8 octaves and 2 tones is rare as it can be and honestly I am strictly preaching that we will never see another mitch possibly ever again that’s why hense he’s rare/extraordinaire

Good video! I imagine you get quite a lot of requests but if you haven’t already, I highly recommend exploring BTS’s work, Their tiny desk performance is magical, their voices are incredible individually and even better together, plus they are the hottest thing at the moment!!! :))))
