    ❤️ what I take away from this: harmony cannot exist if we are all singing the same note. Harmony comes when all of our different notes come together, creating a sound that is greater and more complex than any single note. Celebrate and rejoice in our differences, enjoy the symphony of humanity in all it’s manifestations.

    Now I'm almost crying because I am one of those who's life literally changed directly because I found Pentatonix. They continue to feed my thirsty soul the medicine I need, which you are now dispensing so beautifully. What you just said filled me with so much joy. You just repaid 1,000 times over what you received. I have never, I repeat, never, heard words like that spoken which makes me feel so proud and honored to be part of such a special group. I proudly stand and yell..."I am a Pentaholic!". I love how you react to a song. It makes me appreciate the song more. I will listen to what you said at the end again. I wish more people heard it. I thank you.

    How do you upgrade the perfect song? The way Pentatonix does it is to make the perfect song more itself. They took Imagine seriously, and they responded to it. "Religion divides us," the song says, and Pentatonix says "But when you're part of a loving community different religions give the community diversity, and make us more loving and more powerful." Pentatonix celebrates both the things that they have in common and the things that make them individuals, and that's one of the reasons they have universal appeal - they speak to and for ALL of us. In pointing out their own diversity they include all of humanity, which is the goal of Imagine. I'm old enough to remember the evening news on December 8, 1980. John Lennon, ambushed and shot as he was returning home with Yoko, by a murderer who waited around for the police to show up because he was proud of what he'd done. It's been just over 42 years, and the shock and grief are as strong today as they were then; for many of us it was a formative event in our lives. When I hear or sing Imagine I wonder, what else might John have written if he'd been able to live out his life fully? We'll never know. But we know what he DID write - He wrote Imagine. It's up to us to do what we can to make his dream come true, even if we have do it with tears in our eyes. I wish John could have seen this video. It would have made him so proud.

    I’m glad we have made you feel welcome! We can be a bit (?) overwhelming at times. This song, to me, shows how good music can speak the message we need to hear at the time we hear it. John Lennon was such a warrior for peace that I always interpreted this as his plea for nations to see beyond the institutions that so often precipitate war. Vietnam was raging at the time, and the Cold War was a real danger in our minds. Now, with PTX, the message is more for the individual to see beyond the differences that can separate us and recognize the similarities that bind us together. It’s the message we need today, with armed intruders spewing hate as well as bullets. Wonderful reaction, thanks! Peace …

    Imagine by Pentatonix may be one of the most important videos of this century. This group took a classic, timeless song of tolerance and peace and modernized it as only they can. They are a perfect example of what respect and love can be like. Five people with differences in race, religion, gender, and sexuality can do beautiful things when they work together. I cried when I saw and heard this the first time. I still usually tear up when they go into Wall of Sound mode. Pentaholics are the ones who need to see this the least.

    Those high notes that stopped you in your tracks so early on were sung by Kevin Olusola. He is the beat boxer but also an incredibly talented tenor. The contratenor is Mitch, who's top notes are simply out of this world. The overlap of ranges amongst this group defies description. Any one can cover the ranges if at least 2 others and do so with serming ease. It is not often that Kevin sings a solo, but when he does, magic happens. Phenomenal. Musically there is never one misstep. More important, though, is the warmth and humanity they bring to every piece of music.

  • @ChibiChula
    @ChibiChula Жыл бұрын

    I loved your reaction to this one, as well as your message at the end. Got to admit that I was rather amused at your reaction to the first high notes, trying to figure out if it was Kirstin or Mitch only to realize it was Kevin then when his solo part came up all you could do was clap.... (Honestly, Kevin is such a great big explosion of so much pure talent in so many areas it's truly remarkable and you really need to check out his solo stuff soon.) There was a huge grin on my face at that part. 😁👍 As for recommendations on what to react to next, other than what you already said, I think you'd have a blast listening to their original music. Try "Sing" if you want a pure explosion of energy or "Run To You" if you want something more solemn/soothing/touching, "Can't Sleep Love" is so mellow (kinda jazzy/R&B) that it's very relaxing. Something you might find very interesting is their "Evolution of Music" which starts off from the 11th century. Oh, and you might like their cover of "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons, however that is one of the few songs that they use actual instruments in because it features Lindsay Stirling in it (a dancing violinist if you're unaware) so Kevin broke out his cello for that song (plus a few others) to accompany her/them. Oh! They covered Elvis and it's beautiful. OMG, so many options. Honestly, you could react to any of the songs they put out and have happy ears and blissful soul at the end of it so just pick one and go! 😉 ... BTW, I'm very tempted to recommend their cover of "Dog Days Are Over" by Florence and the Machines but that was one of their final performances on the Sing Off (the TV show where the group officially started) and if you're going to watch Proto-Pentatonix then you should watch those performances from the beginning. 😅

    My husband killed himself last February. I found Pentatonix last September. They have made the worst year of my life more bearable. Have you encountered SuperFruit? SuperFruit was the separate channel that Scott and Mitch set up where they could deal with things that Pentatonix didn't want to deal with as a whole on their official channel. They vlogged. They talked about the realities of being gay. They made some extremely funny videos. And as of February 14, 2019, they stopped. No more SuperFruit - they've moved on to other things. But all those old videos are still there and still worth watching. As I said, there are a lot of very funny things on SuperFruit, but there was one song they did that was dead serious. In response to the Pulse massacre at a gay nightclub in Orlado, Florida in 2016 SuperFruit got together with three friends of theirs, also all members of the LGBTQ+ community, and also all wonderful singers: Brian Justin Crum, Mario Jose, and Mary Lambert, and together they put together the most powerful rendition of Katy Perry's "Rise" that I have ever heard. It speaks of defying the odds, and transcending adversity, and reaching your full potential, whoever you are. This is the song that has been getting me through the holidays and anniversaries: The first Thanksgiving without my husband. The first Christmas without my husband. My first birthday without my husband. The first anniversary of my husband's death. I expect that I'll still be listening to it on my own deathbed, decades in the future, and it is one of the reasons I still have all those decades that are in front of me. Highly recommended. kzread.info/dash/bejne/h2xpt5WdgNjPgpc.html

    This may be the perfect example of how we all have our individual meaning to a song. It connects to us on a deeply personal level. I can't even imagine what you've went through and are still going through. You facing more decades due to the healing power of music gives me hope. Hold that thought! I have not yet encountered Superfruit but have had recommendations. I will check them out eventually and respectfully. All the best to you and thank you for sharing your story!

    At 4:11 in your reaction, when the high notes start that you love, the video is showing you who's singing them. That was Kevin. He has a lovely tenor voice (though I've heard him get down to a high baritone) and his falsetto is gorgeous. I'm not certain, but I think he can actually go higher than Mitch.

    I have loved Pentatonix since the Sing-Off days. They each are amazing, strong musical geniuses on their own but they came together to make the perfect sound. This is one of my favorite covers of theirs. The overwhelming emotion in their delivery - voices and expressions gives this song the power it deserves. And this song also allows the voice of K.O. to really shine. He's a great beatboxer and an amazing musician of multiple instruments but we don't get to really hear his voice very often. I love that this song has no percussion, only vocals. A truly genius arrangement and delivery. ❤

    I also can't decide between the two versions. John absolutely was a genius of a philosopher and lyricist. This song will always remain valid because it simply states a fundamental truth. PTX did it justice by covering it not only by their musical skill, but even more importantly, by treating the song with the respect and even the reverence that it deserves. And don't worry, you are not alone in having tears because of this rendition. This is my second-favorite cover that Pentatonix has done. My very favorite by them is 'Mary, Did You Know?' I admit I am a little biased though, as a Christian. :)

    Thank you for your wonderful reaction to this beautiful video. I am old enough to have heard Imagine when it first came out. It was so honest and such a gentle video by John and Yoko that it made a huge impression on all of us. This is the best version I have heard since then. By showing how they can be such diverse people and yet make one harmonic chord that hits your soul, they live the song. Yes, Kevin has a wonderful clear falsetto, and a very nice mid-tenor singing voice. Two suggestions: Kevin Olusola Down, and Avi Kaplan Hey Ya (after you do Change on the Rise). Also, here's a link, just for fun, of Kevin being a cornet, or maybe a tenor sax. Link: kzread.info/dash/bejne/kaKizJSyfZq6kpc.html Enjoy!

    I would say that as soon as we accept that people are different, that establishes that we are all the same. We share more in common than there is that separates us. That isn't a political view at all. You want to find a way to work with someone and be around them, find that thing you have in common, then go from there.
