In the 4 days since this build came out, I've gotten much further into the game and decided to make my final updated version of the Penetrating Shot Rogue Build: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hYhprqpvncybkcY.html I will not be updating this further until patch notes change the build. I feel very good about where the build stands.

There will be a new version of this build released at 3pm on 6/9/2023. I have changed it up quite a bit, and want to present the build in a better way. Keep an eye out, in the mean time enjoy this version (version still works fine, but I have made optimizations since getting more gear/leveling)

I appreciate it. I try to present the information in an easy to understand way, that feels good to watch through. My biggest gripe with build guides is when people spend 30 minutes walking me through a build, I try to knock it out as fast as possible, while giving some depth to explain the reasoning behind certain parts of the build.

Its a litte bit more open I feel for experimenting compared to melee which is some form of twisting blade. There is flurry but I've only seen the build on a site never anyone actually playing it.

This is my first ever Diablo game and this is my first ever build and its amazing! I'm currently level 32 and getting close to getting the trickshot aspect and I'm excited as hell lol. Leveling with the build hasnt been an issue at all so far, and I'm solo most the time on tier 2.

Im a first time diablo player and Ive been having fun with just my own build experimenting with different things but then at lvl 50 tier3 i found myself having a hard time playing solo with the lack of damage but this is perfect for the amount of damage the penetrating shot does and now im 2 shotting almost every big enemy. Ill be using this till a good marksman build is released from fextralife since im strictly in love with my bows.

Haha, well - I might be able to help you out if you could describe what you're thinking. For example, if you want to try this build - swap your basic skill (Puncture) with Forceful Arrow, which is a more traditional archer skill.

Dude this is crazy I stumbled on another of your videos and was like wow this guy has almost the exact same pen shot build as me. I came up with it alone just wanting to have fun and not use OP meta builds, and I got to something really similar with concealment, poison and shadow imbuement. But you're probably more experienced at this so I'm excited to watch your videos to learn how to do my build better with your tips. Especially on applying vulnerability seems inconsistent

If only the diablo 4 characters looked as beautiful as that thumbnail art. Nice build!

This makes me want to level a rogue. The build looks amazing!

I've tried many variations of the penetrating shot build, since I always wanted to play range rogue, this is definitly the one that I enjoy the most. For those who are wondering, I had no problem switching to nightmare 3 instantly at leavel 50 and still one shot packs. Single target is also good with the poison, so you won't have a hard time against bosses either

Its good to know, since I went rogue for the option to switch between ranged/melee and decide which i prefer endgame.

Just got a neck piece for my rain of arrows that imbues rain of arrows will all 3 elements. Makes that skill a game changer.

Haha, it can be hard for sure. I just live by a simple principle: My videos will not please everyone. I make videos that I believe in, and I spend a lot of time researching and editing to put out videos that I watch back and I'm proud of. However people receive them is their business, but I'm always up to addressing criticism; it's how you grow as a person, not only as a creator.

That's where I'm at too. I liked the twisting blades build, but it feels awkward at times. I've always been a big fan of ranged Demon Hunter builds in D3, so finding a build that works well for ranged feels really nice.

Thank you for this build. This made my start at NM dungeons so much easier (originally a TB Rogue). This really shreds. I just don't like traps in this game. I did shadow clone instead along with my aspect that my clone has imbuements and it feels super bursty when in use. I did go for shadow and poison imbue until I run into a aspect that makes ice worth it. Subscribed! Definitely will like an update video on this!

Yeah I got quite lucky hahaha. That's a keep til I'm 100 weapon. Probably the reason I'm able to push Tier 33 NM dungeons at level 72.

Haha! Yeah, I was feeling the nerfs on that build. It's still viable, I was still able to clear content - but the fun of that build for me was with the cooldown slashing.

the twistet nerfs arent that hard. Ok you lost some uptimes but in the late game where you pull 10 mobs with death trap you have still instant full cd reset. The nerfes feels hard in the late T3 time like around 60-65. And the Paragon nerfs are for all roug build so twistet is still rly strong :)

They're competitive, but Twisting Blades performs higher if the player is perfect. For average players, Penetrating Shot may be more consistent.

I am playing with this build with poison trap. I am tempted to try the chilling version of it tho. There are a lot of chilling legendaries and mechanics for rogue. Did you ever tried this build with ice imbuement instead of poison?

How come I have some talents that say "1 out of 5" but is greyd out and I also can choose this ability to use when i press the "S" Button to see my active talents? for example, I'm playing a rogue and have talented into Shadow Imbuement but for some reason the Poison imbuement also is unlocked even though I never clicked it. So now when i check what abilites i can use i can either choose shadow Im, poison Im and even cold imbuement? I have a total of 9 abilites to choose even tho i just have 6 buttons hehe :) I guess i just use those Ive talented into cuz they have a reason why they are chosen? SOrry if this is a dumb question but first time playing D4 :D

So I guess my question is about bosses and how you put out such high burst on them? I understand the AOE part, but where does boss damage come from here? I see you nuke that one boss and just am unsure where the damage is from, I don't see traps down or anything. Would love help.

The only thing I don't love about shadowstep is that it's not always possible to use defensively. But, it's still a great option.

I'm not a fan of TB for HC, i feel vulnerable. This feels safer in more my playstyle instead of rapid zipping from mob to mob, i'm just not sure about the ult here unless it's for CC? Edit: I just watched the part you mentioned its use, I figure that much but I'll test. Good build.

I think your version with the Forceful arrow (with knockback enhancement) is a lot safer, and works well for most gear levels.

I'm playing almost the same build with Forceful Arrow. I will try with puncture later today. I would love if you are willing to share the d4build link just to look more easily to you paragon board to experiment with the build. Thank you, keep the good content rolling.

Rogue players are notorious for skirting around the edges and skipping out on defensives, lol. But: you can take secondary stats that target armor/damage reduction, make sure your armor is high enough level for the content you’re doing, and most importantly your actual gameplay is important.

Question for you Mr Video man. Using whirling blades atm and not a big fan. Last time I played Diablo was in 2014. I was a huge fan of the D3 Demon Hunters Marauder 6 piece set with 5 turrets. I loved sprinting through rifts on highest torment as fast as possible (3 mins or so) tactically placing turrets without having to think much. Is there any class or build in D4 that you think would be similiar to that vibe? Simple mechanically, something like turrets.

Hmm. I don’t think any class even has a turret, and Marauders was a very interesting set. I don’t think any class will replicate that build, Necro and Druid have pet gameplay but .. not like the Marauder DH, that play style was so unique

The only sustain rogue offers is for melee builds. Your positioning is vital on ranged rogue builds. Or, your other option is to do renown to have 9 potion charges.

So I’m at lvl 52 and on World Tier 3, at what level should I be focusing on getting aspects on my gear? (It costs a ton to imprint them and the items I get from drops relatively outscore the piece of equipment I got before). I’m also going this build but it’s difficult to gauge when would be an appropriate time to invest in these aspects since I know they’ll get swapped out eventually.

The way I did it was - my first set of gear I created when I got my full set of Sacred gear with different stats.

It’s a hard call. It depends how essential the aspect is for your gear, but most of the time there’s a point where the stat increase outweighs the legendary aspect.

Is pen shot good against bosses? I heard it may fall off a bit when not dealing with multiple enemies. Also, do you have any opinion on using pen shot AND rapid fire? Saw a build where both of them were used, and i wonder if its supposed to add a single target option... But great build! Will def try it, im in love with pen shot right now :)

Some quick thoughts (sorry I’m on mobile) 1) Pen shot is great against bosses. I showed a few clips in this video where I’m killing bosses in 20 seconds. They are level 80ish, I’m level 70 in the clips. 2) Sadly if you’re running Edgemaster aspect, taking rapid fire would compromise our primary resource spending, meaning our penetrating shot would lose a lot of damage

i tried so many ranged bow builds.. but they never seem to live up to the speed and power of the shifting blade + shadowimbuement/dash build. Its kinda sad to see that the ranged aspects do not feel so strong. Also i think that the ultimate abilities feel really underpowered comapred to just spamming the core abilities. Hope they will improve bow viability soon :/

​@@2NextLvL Well different builds have different approaches. It's not irrelevant at all. Problem with Twisting blade is that you need to have pretty strong gear and never have any downtime in order to survive many times. This build is very varied, you can go super safe if your gear is not so good which I'm doing at the moment with forceful arrows and caltrops. With this the enemies will never be near you in any moment and your damage is still decent. After getting gear you can go a much more offensive path for really awesome damage but still have more relaxed sustained. When getting in the very high tiers for Twisting blades you need to make sure your sustain and speed is optimal or you won't survive. It's for sure faster and more damage but also your health will move up and down like crazy and you need the sustain in order to keep doing the big numbers. Just different playstyles and this one is easier to approach at a earlier stage.

@@2NextLvL It is if you don't deal damage and evade at the right times, higher content can one-shot you and if you don't keep damage coming at all times while you are in the middle of a fight your hp will just drop so sustain is needed and It's a much higher skill cap than this build is what I'm trying to say.

I'm currently running a tb trap build and I'm hitting consistent 300k crits at lvl 67 my average numbers are 80k constant and I'm procing the ult every 10 seconds

Yeah the death trap build is very strong, because it synergizes extremely well with the cooldown slashing of Twisting Blades

Bro any advice for movement? I tried this but Sometimes i just wanna click for movement because im running from mobs and i fuck up clicking on a mob . It is pretty frustating

You might want to consider using Force Move keybinds. It makes it so you don't accidentally click a mob and attack, but it will only move your character. That's a very helpful keybind to have, I personally use my mouse side button for force move.

Soo I'm at level 9. Mainly concentrating on melee with a few core skills thrown into projectile to keep enemies at bay. Working towards a more agile primary melee fighter

Great build, great game but I had much more fun with my monk build in D3. The builds in D4 are great, but they doesn't have what the builds in D3 have. And the reason for that is quite simple: The patch nerfs.

With the right gear, my build is destroying Tier 4. I'm currently level 71, and I'm doing Tier 35 nightmare dungeons with mostly the gear shown in this video.

@@eMsi1994 I'm actually exploring Cold Imbuement myself right now with those buffs. I'm interested to see if there's some viability in the Cold Imbuement. I will know more later on, I'm currently working on a different video - but will let you know what I find from testing. I have some gear that's good for Cold damage.

Updated version coming in 4 minutes. I have Trickshot on Amulet now. This was a very early version of the build.

ur pants imprint dont count and is a wasted aspect cause u got it on another source of gear u should swap it to free up a slot :D , anyhow this build looks amazing with the unique amulet wich says '' ur rain of arrows gain all imbuement at once '' word of hakan or something its gonnabe crazy and gives insane single and AoE potential i cant wait to get it!

Thanks for your reply. Really sucks that it's hard (now at least) to change specs/gear fast, it just costs too damn much. But I really wanna try this build with the dagger, too bad that I have like 95%+ close damage on gear :(

My main problem with rogue(iam playing one) that is severely unbalanced when it comes to meele vs ranged. In Tier II the meele (TB) is a must while leveling. Any ranged build is so weak compere to TB. Yeah this build is awsome but look what you MUST have...and that is 10s of hours of gameplay until you get there(if you) and of course you must have luck with gear. Iam now on level 48 TB Tier II...i tried "every" ranged build even this(yeah lvl 48 is low and no aspects) and it is just no go. IMO ranged builds are for endgame with great gear and aspects which you do not have at "low" lvls while still leveling. For the info iam running TB with poison imbue/dash/shadowstep/poison trap...only have 3 legendary items and rest is kinda me-h and of course NO aspects...and iam still getting thru game relatively easy. I wanna play ranged but for leveling in Tier II is too weak...

I know!!! I was a huge UE fan in D3, I hope they make a set at some point that makes Barrage function like Multishot.

This build looks so good but I prefer Twisting Blades because when I see the build showcase in this video, it looked me more safe, yes but very slow killing. Thanks for the guide anyways.

I'm not sleeping on it! I tested it, and it didn't feel as good as pen shot, but my gear wasn't tailored to running rapid fire - so I didn't give it a fair shot. I'm currently saving pieces to assemble a Rapid Fire build and test it out, and further my testing on Barrage.

Lol! I actually tried it, but it felt overkill, and most of the time I would have my cooldown reset on one of my two imbuement skills by the time I got to use the 3rd one.

Sorry I didn't get to this: yes it's for the extra vulnerable damage. Plus, we don't need a bow for the extra attack speed because we want our energy to be high so we aren't spending nonstop.

This build is significantly better if you forego any Ultimate skill and instead use Dark Shroud. Rogues ultimates are severely weak and underwhelming. Besides that, Forceful Arrow with knock back perk is far better on this build compared to Puncture Also, your damage will skyrocket if you use Poison Traps with damage increase and knockdown perks, especially against bosses. There are also two legendary aspects that increase your damage against enemies in your traps and cc'd.

No need for damage reduction when you're deleting mobs. Classic arpg strategy. Why handicap your damage to survive longer when you're more likely to survive longer if you kill faster?

@@80AM. This makes no sense in this context. Rain of Arrows does virtually no damage, it's quite literally a tickle machine that's used for it's crowd control - whereas you can use Dark Shroud for extra movement speed and extra damage, AS WELL as damage reduction?

As mentioned in the video, I think both options are good. It's just up to your gear. If your gear isn't amazing, Dark Shroud will be most likely the best option for a final skill. If your gear is really good, you don't need Dark Shroud - completely up to your needs with your gear and what level of content you're pushing.

I tested all 3 (barrage, rapid fire - after buffs, and penetrating shot) Here's my thoughts: - Pen shot is definitely the strongest, with the gear I currently have [Great at clearing elites] - Barrage is not bad, but the build doesn't have 4 "amazing" offensive aspects (IMO) - Rapid Fire feels underwhelming, but that is most likely due to my lack of aspects on the build, and theorycrafting. I was testing base values for the ability, with minimal gear adjustments.

yo ima leave another comment here im far from optimized im getting close to lv 70 ish , my dmg is '' okay '' 170k-250k crits but i feel like im paper all day even with defensive aspect and full topaz in gear u get ocasionaly fked by lightning storm / or some other sht / ofc opressor is anoying af , just wanted to let u know im enjoying the build alot but i die ALOT even when i play it '' range '' might be more or less my substats aswell , maybe u can take a look or tell me where to improve ect if u got a commuinity discord or something ^^

I mentioned the nerf in my video, but that wasn't the reason I went ranged. TB is completely playable still haha. Just, my favorite part about TB was the cooldown slashing. Plus, I was a UE Multishot main in D3, so there's a soft spot in my heart for ranged rogue builds in D4.

Oldschool D2 bowazon here. Wanted to bring it back here! Although I’m super tempted to try out puncture after watching this video (you might be building combo points faster that way). I’ve been using this same build w forceful arrow (which you give a head nod to) and it’s been working for me great so far.

I prefer to think optimistically, I think Blizzard identified some builds that were far ahead of the other options for each class. IE: Barbarian like ONLY had whirlwind barb for competitive builds.

@@Valuedx i think they just want us to need longer to be strong enough to make t4, the game is broken anyway, at least 3-4 months and then it will be better.

All the nerfs to the classes before the game even technically released is a huge red flag. They are going to nerf all of the fun an viability out of the game if they micromanage it like this. Its diablo, not a competitive PVP game. They should only be adjusting stuff thay is wildly over the top. Everything should be buffed to be viable. Nerfing the stuff that feels good isnt the answer. The range gameplay on the rogue feels awful. Penetrating shot is the worst range skill the rogues have in terms of feel. I want to play range so bad, but it just isnt good and can't hang in the late game. But they didnt buff anything, only nerfed the builds that worked well.

I want to address this comment in detail, because you’re making valid points. I look at the balance changes a bit differently, in my opinion Blizzard was just tuning down some of the abilities that were miles ahead other classes and specializations. (Example being whirlwind barbarian). But I do agree with you, and I hope they don’t micromanage the game to the point where the fun is taken away. For your last point, did you see the video? This penetrating shot build (for me, with my gear) feels awesome! I’m 1 shotting almost every enemy in the game.

@@Valuedx I'm not arguing that pentrating shot isn't strong, it just doesn't feel good to me. Like arrow barrage and rapid shot seems so much more fun and quick, but they are virtually un-usable in any decently difficult content. I ended up having to abandon Barrage by level 30 and spec into twisting blades simply because I couldn't clear anything solo anymore. It never felt like twisting blade was obnoxiously over powered, it felt like everything else was weak. The fact that they are doing things like "first to 100" races and added PVP makes me think that nerfs and balance is going to get out of control I just hope we don't lose the identity of diablo along the way.

Because some people think it’s a fun play style. Just spinning around the whole game sounds pretty damn boring regardless of how much damage it does, Some people play for fun and don’t care to follow meta builds.
