I just started watching you channel . If possible advice would be welcomed . I am located in Stanislaus County. I am electrician by trade and started to frame up a jr adu( studio)in my front living room . Questions 1• can I do all the work myself as I am knowledgeable and work in construction? The reason I ask is my city let me change out my own electrical panel as I am an electrician. 2• if so I would just need to get an engineer to draw up drawings ? Get them approved and I could handle all inspections myself as homeowner ? I know several people who have just did the work and didn’t go the permit route . I understand there is risk involved although I believe half of adu are unpermitted .

Hi there! Yes, you can self GC the project if it is your primary home (in most cases). Yes, you would still need drafted plans with a Engineer stamp (also in most casas). I would also go the longer, slower route and get the conversion permited.

@@ThatADUGuy Thank you for response . I do have a question maybe you have the answer to . I purchased the property from my father’s estate . I inherited his property tax under prop 19 I believe it was . If I add the conversion there is added value . Would the county now want to reassess the property? If so would I lose the inherited property tax ?
