Thank you so much! You were pivotal in helping me take an old and falling apart wine barrel and turning it into a beautiful water pump fountain!
Great video and great series! This is honestly the best tutorial I've seen online on this topic. Very thorough and easy to follow.

Thank for watching and for the feedback! We just finished putting this together this summer, so glad to hear you found it useful!
Thanks for putting this series together. I watched all of the videos, followed your process and ended up with an absolutely beautiful rain barrel. Again, THANKS!!!

Can you tell me what you used to clean the inside of the barrel? I am trying to restore mine but after I sanded it, I realized I never cleaned the inside and it turned purple and the black spots came back out bc I hadn’t cleaned the inside.
This series is very informative.I can’t wait to get started on my barrel! Thanks
I almost yelled out loud when that chisel was pushed across the uneven metal....lol
Just found this series. Very timely as I just acquired three whiskey barrels, which I plan to convert into rain barrels! Going to leave them looking pretty "rustic" but I will start by scraping some of the rust off the bands. Would you recommend using some kind of oil or treatment to slow down the rust, since they'll be outside exposed to the elements?
Wire brushed and sanded the bands on mine causing ginger rust to come free then rinsed entire barrel and did this twice am now painting the bands and ends after sanding wood parts down too
Absolutely love it amazing video, new sub from Australia 🇦🇺
Great videos! To the point but plenty of information. Thanks!
My question is do I need to clean the barrel out. I have an old bourbon barrel that was used for beer by a local brewery. I was just going to leave it sealed and put spar urethane on it
Just got a whiskey barrel and I can’t wait
Great video. Thank you. Which steel wool do you use? Medium or fine?
AWESOME VIDEOS!!!!! I want to use the hoops for a project without the barrel. What would you recommend for sealing the hoop? Shellac or a poly? Thanks!!!
Question about self-tapping hoop screws. I have been adding some in the bands to better secure them to the wood. My problem is that when I screw many of them in the band is retracting away from the wood and leaving a gap between band and wood that was previously tight before I put the screw in…I’m using 3/4 inch metal to metal screws. Do you recommend anything different?
Great Video Thank you 🦋
I was thinking about trying to use some metal polish on my barrel I just picked up today I'll let you know how it goes.
If I wanted to paint the hoops back and also stain/finish the wood, which order should I do it in? I'm thinking sand, paint, stain, then finish but try not to get the poly finish on the hoops.
just wondering if once removed and then you sand the barrel to original finish. will the hoops still fit snuggly ?
Is it best to let the wine barrel completely dry and then just tight the barrel hoops or should I just screw in the barrel hoops?
Should / Can i pressure wash the outside to get rid of any stains or sticky drips?
You should try Naval Jelly to turn the rusted rings black, it will save ya some time and steps
You're a legend, thank you!!!
What do I need to do if my whiskey barrel is shrinking? Do I need to fill it with water?
Do you need to glue the rim of the lid or anywhere? Saw someone do that on another video. Thanks!
If I paint the hoops do I still have to sand them down?
Does anyone know how to remove smells from whiskey barrels? I attempted to fill my barrel with water and now it really stinks after being wet.
How do I open the top? It's stuck. I wanna use the barrel for fermenting cabbage

I'd like to make a barrel table but don't want the barrelnto smell like alcohol. Everybody that is selling these is telling me that all of them still have an alcohol aroma. Do you have any suggestion to get rid of the smell?

I found that sanding the inside and then giving it a few coats of danish oil has got rid of the strong bourbon smell from mine. It's a very messy job sanding the inside so be prepared for that.
Where do you get the 440 grit sandpaper?
