    There is another topic. It is easier to sell the "meat, butter, cheese and bacon are good for you story" than to sell the "broccoli story". The client buys the words that he wants to hear. It doesn't matter how scientific the writer is.

    Meat, butter, and bacon are good for you. Requiring science credentials is an appeal to authority fallacy - you can be a janitor and still write true and correct things. @Barrow Girl It's normal for blood glucose to go up when you eat carbohydrates. Normally, the glucose would then be taken up by your muscle cells, and your blood glucose would go back down. But if your diet is high in saturated fats, your muscle cells begin to fill with fat droplets called intramyocellular lipids, which prevent glucose from entering your cells. This is how insulin resistance develops, and for many people, eventually, type 2 diabetes.

  • @Hertz2laugh

    @Hertz2laugh

    Жыл бұрын

    @@ahimsa6791 Interesting theory but I don't think it accounts for the interactions between glucose, insulin, and (muscle) cells. Glucose is the critical negative factor related to diabetes; if you have proper glucose levels, you'll never get (non-genetic) diabetes. In other words, it's exogenous carbohydrates -- carbs that come from eating foods -- that are the *_ONLY_* thing that can cause (non-genetic) diabetes. If a person never eats carbs, their glucose will never be elevated enough to cause any negative effects. Unlike fatty acids and protein, exogenous carbohydrates are *_completely_* unnecessary for human health. Humans *_can_* eat them but they aren't *_required_*. As long as a human is eating protein and fat, they'll have all the fuel they need because of (a) ketogenesis and (b) gluconeogenesis. These two processes create ketones and glucose which fuel the body. In fact, some organs -- the heart in particular run almost entirely off of ketones and do not readily metabolize glucose. Similarly, the brain *_can_* use glucose for fuel but it is much more efficient at metabolizing ketones. To summarize: If you don't eat carbohydrates, your glucose will never raise to the point of being a problem; insulin levels will remain normal and you won't experience insulin resistance or hyperinsulinemia which are the precursors to diabetes. Don't eat carbs. Stick to protein and animal fat.

    Yes they look for information that coincides with what they want to do instead of looking for information that will increase their chances of living a long healthy life. Telling people to fill half their plate with non starchy vegetables, drink water and get most of their fat from raw, unsalted nuts is not sexy unfortunately. What's really crazy is only a tiny percentage of the population go see a dietician like you. Yet over 60% of the population are overweight and are developing chronic disease problems related to diet. Personally, I really like Yuval Noah Harari's take that humans became the masters of the world because they could form tribes that believe in something big like money or religion, but that this very trait of seeking out tribes may be our downfall. This is relevant to the issue of controversy, because people within a tribe seem to identify with the tribe the most if the topic is controversial (us against them mentality). Once people are within a nutrition tribe, be it vegan or carnivore, it does seem very hard to reach them with scientific evidence.

He got type ONE diabetes at 11 and is now 88 and even still active here on KZread. He lives on ANIMAL protein with veggies. He doesn't eat grains or fruit. He wrote the following. There are essential amino acids and essential fatty acids. Your body needs protein and fat. There are no essential carbohydrates. All the bad things that are supposed to happen to people who consume lots of animal based foods have not happened to him. Many people around the world follow his plan. I follow all things diabetes related rather closely as I have been living with it since 1998. Nothing has surfaced yet about followers of Dr Bernstein having lots of health problems/premature death etc. If it was happening I would know about it. Now understand he is NOT an Atkins guy who lead people to believe that as long as you avoid carbs you can eat unlimited amounts of protein and fat. Dr Bernstein doesn't eat excessively period. He's slim as are most of his followers eventually and permanently if they stick with his approach. Lots of things become popular in the health world and then eventually are proven to have been wrong. The idea that a high fiber intake is good and lowers your risk of colon cancer for example. Now it looks like that really isn't the case. Many people have conditions that improve when they keep fiber intake low. The human body is complicated. Some people eat lots of cholesterol containing foods but never develop dangerously high cholesterol levels. For others they have the complete opposite scenario.

    I'm a bit same as you, I've been devouring diet and nutrition books all my life. Our only difference (from what I can tell), is I actually did everything each book was saying. I followed every diet to see what would happen and have an informed opinion. I'm 44 now and I've been doing this since I was 20 (got my first calorie counting book when I was 12 in 1990 and that was the start). My takeaway: EVERY DIET WORKS. For 6 months to a year. Literally even the craziest one. All problems start after that. The worst combination of foods health wise that's not even in a diet book but a religious one is red meat and dairy. Please don't eat that. I grew up in a Mediterranean diet but have decided to go Vegan for the planet and the animals. I needed another reason to pick a way a eating. But I might be having fish eggs every now and then as per Ms Mosconi. But the fact that we live in a world where for every diet book/video/article that suggest plants as optimal for health there's one that suggests meat and butter just shows how messed up the circumstances we're living in are. And breaks my heart.

We both lost close to 50 lbs in months, not years. We have since switched to a low-carb diet> we eat mainly vegetables along with grass-fed beef, fish, or pasture-raised chicken and eggs. I'll write a diet book right now. Two minutes. (I wonder how many copies I'll sell...) 1) Eat beans that you cook yourself from dry. 2) Eat intact grains you have cooked yourself in water only. 3) Eat green leafy veggies, a pound a day or more, raw or cooked. 4) Have all the root vegetables by the pound, please! 5) Fruit is nice;) (tomatoes and cucumbers are fruits, btw) 6) Add some spices to your taste. 7) Eat some fatty raw plants if you like them, but be careful not to gain weight from too much of it. 8) Of course all the other vegetables are great! Eat them raw or cooked. 9) Be super careful with added salt, oil, or refined sugar. A tiny bit is okay, but WATCH IT! 10) Avoid dairy 100% 11) Unprocessed animal foods can be eaten, but limit to about 6 ounces (raw weight) a week or less. In the case of any diseases, avoid animal foods 100% I was in a bit of a rush, so do comment if I missed anything, B12 of course...anyways, ignore the gurus!

    Impressive research. I LOVED that spreadsheet of diet authors. As a fellow research nerd into the background of all these diet doctors and "experts", I love this level of in-depth research. I did another round of research last year, and it is so frustrating to see how many people are spreading arrant nonsense, and how many gullible consumers just gobble up all the misinformation that permeates the whole diet industry. I worked in a medical research lab in my younger years (I have a science background) and certainly learned about what should constitute a properly designed research project. So it annoys me that so many research studies on diet are badly designed. Or perhaps more accurately, designed to produce the "desirable" conclusions. Desirable to - and in fact expected by - the research funding body, that is. When the meat industry or dairy industry pays for your research, you'd damn well better come up with results they will like, or there won't be any more research grants in the future. Too many studies are tainted by such vested interests - and too often the researchers hide the identity of their funders. But sometimes flawed research seems to arise from lack of experience, making assumptions, poor design or limited funding that limits what can be done. Sometimes the methodology is almost worthless because it relies on people reporting accurately about their eating habits. Nevertheless, there is a clear trend among independent, credible researchers who are not in the pockets of big food corporations. And the sum total of research around the world comes to a clear conclusion: excess meat and the saturated fat in animal foods are detrimental to health, while whole, unprocessed or minimally processed plant foods are the most healthy foods around. Populations eating traditional diets were typically slim and healthy until Western junk foods and fast food chains invaded their country, and then the rates of obesity and chronic diseases shot up within only a decade or two. American fast food is the most deadly weapon of mass destruction the world has seen. But most people don't recognise this as the effects are insidious and invisible. Until someone keels over from their first heart attack. If they are lucky, they live long enough to have another one. If they are truly lucky, they will have the chance to give up that toxic food and start eating real food.

    I can understand why Mediterranean books sell well. When I was looking for the healthiest diet back in 2018, I saw so much conflicting info I had a hard time choosing which diet was best. Mediterranean was what I settled on (or at least my bastardized version of it. lol) for a year because everyone can agree a "balanced" diet sounds the most reasonable. I can see where my book is lacking in some of these areas. It's funny how I succeeded by accident in some, like having a story to capture the audience in the beginning. And since my cover isn't going to have some kind of mystery, it likely won't capture their attention right away. But I did make sure my cover has bright fast food colors so they'll definitely notice it. lol. I just ordered a proof copy of my book! I'm so excited! :D The union at my job begs me to join because I am a passionate speaker when it's a topic I'm passionate about. So if I do wind up in interviews then maybe that'll help. Or maybe people will label me a wacko. LOL Also, awwwwwww! For your story at the end. It's so relatable. I was in training for my current job and we had a little party. The instructor asked me to clean her crockpot. I noticed some water was inside the lid under the handle so I shook it a little bit and the handle broke off. I felt so terrible! I knew she'd had that crockpot many years. I thought she was going to be furious and fail me and I started crying. T_T She wasn't mad, though and gave me a hug.
