Park Chess Player INSTANTLY Knew I Was Good
Ойындар
I played chess against a guy called Johnny whilst visiting Washington Square Park in NYC last summer! (This park is known for having a ton of chess players and chess hustlers). This was one of my most memorable chess games from NYC so I wanted to share it with you even if it was a while ago, hope you enjoy! :D

If you have read the Percy Jackson series and then the hero's of Olympus series both by Rick Riordan then you should read Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods because this park and Johnny are in it. Not by name of course but I'm pretty positive and the park is a setting in the book.
I am pretty sure part of his sadness at the end was not that he lost but that the game was over and this magical moment of conversation would come to an end.

Everyone’s talking about how sweet and wholesome this guy is. But he’s clearly using his words to try and distract her from the game. He’s done it before and that’s his strategy. There may be a lot of truth to what he is saying, but he is clearly trying to use those virtuous stories to distract her and gain an advantage. This is exactly what i was thinking while watching, specifically because he repeats himself a lot then makes a quick move. He did 2 quick moves after talking and she didn't notice, and then there was a moment where he made a bishop jump a pawn and that one she noticed.

@@S.Trades About 30 wins now to my name 😎.
One of my favorite quotes that Johnny may like: "To win at chess is to exercise skill. To lose at chess is to gain skill." Ole' Johnny definitely gave me notes on how to teach my son in an enthusiastic way, both in this video and the one where he plays Anna's mom. Shows how we learn from different people in many different ways.
What a patter and and attitude AND GAME this man has althoughplaying two-handed always reeks of sleight of hand, and there was a bit of THAT. Love watching Anna play these amazing people who I would have otherwise not known, but now hope I could someday play. Thank you both. Cheers.
I really appreciate the patience and respect you gave this man.

@@kaptep01 You must get scammed a lot, since this man is clearly a scammer. You can tell by his body language (Looking around, not focussed on the game, avoids eye contact with his opponent) aswell as him immediately attempting to cheat when his opponent is distracted. He knows exactly what he is doing; I'm no chess expert by any means but I know an illegal move when I see one, you can't tell me this guy doesn't know the rules. And if he does this with an innocent game with no stakes against a friendly person, imagine how far he'd go for 'real' stakes.

i love this when you take time to talk with people it relax them 🥰/ ik vindt dit leuk dat je tijd neemt voor de mensen waar je schaak mee speelt je leert ze kennen en wat ze mee hebben gemaakt dan maakt het schaken onder geschikt aan het hele spelletje 😍🥰🥰
Both of you should be the movie. Both wholesome. Both learning. Both bringing experiences. Both being ruthless. Humanity is the intended outcome.

Nice to see Anna gets a break from talking!! Thankyou again Anna for a wonderful vid, your positive attitude is a blessing.
I came to this video to watch the game, I didn't even remember the game after he was talking about his student. I hope this man gets his script written and his movie released! He seems like an amazing soul! My personal thoughts resonate with him on the idea of "it's not about the destination, it's about the journey" and I wish humanity revered it in the way this man does. The only criticism I have of this video is that the title should have been a nod to how kind and "real" this man is. It's incredibly rare to find people like him in this world (or perhaps I'm not in the right place?). Had to watch this one twice. He is a treasure and thank you for sharing this interaction!
what a lively old man! how wonderful it would be to share a conversation with him, for him to share more of his philosophies.
It made me happy to see how kind and patient you treat people. Stay as you are, you are amazing ☺️

He really reminds me of a bowling instructor i had growing up who also had this same exact energy and passion for the game and loving being able to share it with the younger generations and wanting to foster this sort of environment! It always makes me happy thinking back on those memories and makes me glad to see that there are more people out there pushing on with the same sort of ideals
I really like your videos. Thanks for sharing them. These are real people.
This was an absolutely brilliant interaction!!!! I love it. Thank you for this sooooo much ❤
My favourite moment 13:31 when he complimented you on challenging him to a chess game, having just realised that you were a special person (not just a good chess player) and had made his day. Brought tears
The fun this man is having playing a game with you made me appreciate life more. It's crazy how much more optimistic and joyful I feel after these 20 minutes.
A truly amazing video, very nice of you to share. I like the way you approached him too, very mature for your age.
I don't know why, but this interaction was really powerful and wonderful. I was smiling during the whole 19 min and after a while a noticed my cheeks started hurting :)
Congrats on your group win and top 10 at the Rilton Cup! Had to get up early to watch your stream, but so fun to see. Thanks!
its nice how playing chess can turning on to meet a nice person, who has a beatiful story to tell to the world and show how with good energy and simpathy all changes, and thats what about chess made about: speanding a great time and meet nice persons, not looking for only winning, because in fact, bouth are winning at the end. Great video, thank you Anna! Hug for all from Argentina!
Love your game here! Thanks for giving Johnny your time! This meant a lot to him!
He truly is a great teacher through chess. Never let your guard down to sweet talk... or you'll get cheated on. Thanks master hustler :)
