Palestrina Knot for Left Handed & Right Handed

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The last Palestrina Knot video I made was against a green background using green wool and green thread... so yeah, I decided to do another one for both left AND right handers using a tan linen and a darker thread. I show what to do if you run out of thread mid stitch and how to end the thread.
Enjoy!

After graduating from Parsons School of Design, I began my career in fashion design and freelanced both in New York City, as well as London. I designed hand knits for Elle Magazine and was the editor of the Hand Knit Page before hand knits fell out of fashion in the early 1990's and the page was discontinued. In 2008 I launched my jewelry design business, designing fine jewelry in 18 & 20 Kt Gold with gemstones that I hand select for each piece. Several awards and numerous write ups & interviews in all kinds of magazines and online zines, I rediscovered hand stitching and my life took another turn. I have been designing in some form since I sold my first felt embroidered xmas tree ornaments to a small shop in Northern California when I was 16 years old, and have never looked back. And while I've had detours along the way: had two children, worked at an advertising agency, got into acting in my early 20's, published some articles for various magazines and wrote for the Huffington Post for a few years, I have always come back to designing. It is my first love and remains so to this day.

So thankful that you took the time to show the Palestrina stitch for the left-hander. We are SO OFTEN forgotten, and oftentimes simply doing a "mirror image" of the stitch doesn't work. It was just wonderful to see a left-handed demonstration.

Thank you so much for this!!!! I couldn't figure out why mine didn't raise up or knot correctly. I'm a lefty and was only seeing the right handed version. I got it now!

Oh good! I totally understand the feeling. The Palestrina knot eluded me for such a long time. So glad this helped!

My dear Adriane! Thank you SO much for providing a left-handed video of this stitch. You have no idea how hard it often is to watch a right-handed video and try to switch it around. It is not as simple as doing a "mirror image," as some You Tube presenters suggest. This video is so appreciated.

I know EXACTLY what it's like!!! I'm so glad you enjoyed and yes, very, very frustrating to have to watch a right handed person do something that I want to learn, but can't figure out how to do it for my left handedness. It's exactly what you're describing that led me to create a youtube channel in the beginning. I couldn't find anyone demonstrating needle turn appliqué and it was SO frustrating I thought, fine, I'm going to make a video on this and then went from there! ❤️

I love to watch you stitch. I did a lot of embroidery up until a few years ago when the arthritis in my hands and tremors got too bad. Can’t hold a needle anymore, but I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing them.

Oh another georgous demonstration and stitch now itching to have a go. The left handed version made more sense to me, even though I stitch right handed. I wonder if that is because my mum was left and she taught me to sewing and knitting. A huge thank you. 💟

I’m so glad you found it helpful, Claire. It’s one of my favorite stitches. I too find I have to experiment with stitches and find some combination of both left and right handed sometimes makes more sense. I too was taught to knit and sew by a mother whose dominant hand differed from my own. ❤️

@@carolbogden2322 I understood that part, but can't figure out what you mean when you say, "you can cut pieces of check purl and fill in..." Not sure what that means. I haven't spent a lot of time looking at gold work, but from the little I've seen it's pretty fabulous. Do you have any particular favorite sources you care to share? ❤
