What a nice surprise to see that you’re back. I’ve missed you! I’m so happy you’re finding your way back. ❤
You are terrific..Love all your designs ❤
I love your work. I had never heard of silk bark. You tie in everything so beautifully.
Can’t wait to see the next instalment. Glad you did cut it otherwise you would always be think how it would have turned out if you had cut it! Hope that makes sense. You are right the joy and relaxation you get from stitching is wonderful. Xxxx
Thx so much. Yes, I HAD to do it! And now, glad I did. ❤️💕❤️
Hi Ariane! Glad you’re back. I love this project. So interesting to watch this process. I’m learning so much. I also love Pat Pauley’s linens. I keep watching for new pieces. Makes sense that she only produces when there’s a lot of interest. I’m interested! So much so that I am probably going to take her class Sante Fe in 2025. Keep plugging away on this vessel! Can’t wait to see the finished piece. Cheers!
@@cherylhart5724 hi Cheryl - oh how great! She’s an amazing teacher and her classes are always SO much fun. You’ll have a blast. And if you go, give her a hug for me. ❤️💕❤️
I love the brown card bobbins you have your thread on and would like to know the important dimensions -- they aren't listed on the amazon link (and are currently unavailable. Of course, it is 3 years later, so 🤷♀️) They just seem like such a great size!
Hi Gail - Here's a link that works (and I just amended that other link on this video. Who knows how long it will last though!) Thread Winders: amzn.to/4bBVhfO. The dimensions are about 4" x 3"
I'm a fairly new subscriber and I like watching you stitch. And, I like your style. I'm sure you'll figure out how to make this project work. I was wondering, (and you've probably thought of this) if it would work better if you make the piece in several panels that you can then stitch together once you have it in place on the wire? Just a thought.... TFS 💕
Yes, that would have been a good way to go (had I thought of it when I started!!) ❤️😂❤️
Possibly soak in starch and as it dries form more unto the wires. You can purchase macrame rings to give strength to the top and bottom....love it so far.
CJ - how big are the macrame rings that you're thinking of? And are you thinking they'd be in place of the wire bottom and top that I did? Just trying to get a better idea of what you're thinking. ❤️
hi Ariane, I must have missed the wire you did on the top and bottom. I only saw the sides. Macrame hoops come in all sizes from 2" to 50"
@@coloradoblueskiesboutique7720 Got it!
Try couching wire on inside as if you were making a corset ??????
Yes! That's exactly what I ended up doing!! ❤️❤️❤️
You ARE the brave one! AND you CAN do this! For some reason these words are popping up and so I'll just let 'em fly. Curved seams = rounded shapes. Big ones, little ones, bold ones, subtle ones (best of all). Your vision & work have lit my creative life on fire in the last year or so--just so you know. THANK YOU!!
I just love reading comments like yours! Really, to inspire anyone else is the biggest compliment anyone could give me. I'm so happy! I want to hear all about your endeavors. ❤️
Another way to get your shape more bowl shaped, (for a future project) is to at the top and bottom stitch a loose stitch all around the top and bottom and draw the thread to pull in the top and bottom.
Thx so much, that's a great idea! I did think of doing that with this one, but then decided to keep going with the irregular shaped top and bottom. I still could have done that by making the wire at the bottom and top smaller... it's an idea I'm definitely going to keep in my back pocket for the next one!
It is coming and it is going to be a master piece of art. Enjoying the process. Thank you for sharing
Thx so much Maria! So much FUN!!
I know you have solved this, but what about a tabletop hat stand as a firm structure inside? You can add your chicken wire to undulate where you want and probably even build it higher because you would have a very stable base.
Such a great idea! Definitely a great thing for me to keep in mind for the next one! ❤️
I am loving where your vessel is going. Thrilled to have you back.
Thx so much! Really appreciate it❤
Did you know there are many grades of Chicken Wire. Some very heavy and will hold up. Also you do not need to cut it to add more wire that is protruding from the main body. Best to you.
I did NOT know that, so thank you for letting me know. Can you clarify when you say "you do not need to cut it to add more wire that is protruding from the main body"? Thx so much Lynda, really appreciate it.
@@ArianeZurcher212 Yes I can . Cut a section of chicken wire and attach it to the outside of the main wire and bend the ends of the wire over the wire that you are attaching it to and you can bend this attachment to fit any shape you want. Very bendable as you have already found out. I go through this making armatures for paper mache .
@@lyndaholloway5469 got it. Thx so much for the clarification. ❤
Your vessel is working with the wire! I am loving this journey and progress❤️
Thank you so much Elizabeth. Yes!! It's working. Very exciting!!
This was so fun. Have been enjoying this all along and today I realized there is a lot of the process that reminds me of myself. Thanks so much, I am feeling quite inspired to get out of my box!
That makes me SO happy to hear. Definitely think out of the box and let your imagination run wild!! It will thank you. ❤️❤️❤️
oh my, I am so emotionally invested in this project of yours! I've been thinking about the "engineering" aspects of it, and I've a few ideas to run by you. What if, instead of trying to shape it in a sort of suspension way, like from the outside in, you try shaping it from the inside out? Creating a sort of mold to shape it around? I was thinking maybe a piece of styrofoam that you cut into the shape you like, and then create the armature around that, take the mold (mould?) out, and then attach the fabric to it? Then I realised that styrofoam is so dang messy, it'll go everywhere! so then I thought, ok, so how about if you stuff your shape? tack the seam together reasonably strongly, then stuff it full of something like balls of wool, or some pillows or whatever? Then create your armature around the outside of the piece, make sure it's good and firm, but NOT attached to the fabric, then remove the stuffing, pull out your fabric and you should be able to now wrap the fabric around the armature? this way, you can use that good black wire you have, to create not only vertical strength and shape, but also place some sort of wonky hoops around it horizontally... is this making any sense? And also, possibly it's far too late and you've moved beyond all of that now haha!
Ha! I love that you're invested in this crazy project of mine!! ❤️💕❤️ Someone else mentioned using papier mache, the same kind of idea and I think that would have been a good way to go, particularly if I'd done that right away in the beginning. This is an excellent idea for my next vessel! And oh yes, there is most certainly going to be a next vessel!! This was so much fun to create and I learned so much. The next one will be even wackier, I think. As things stand *spoiler alert* the finished vessel and last episode in this series will be published Wednesday morning. 💕❤️💕
I might have created a pocket for the wire to go into and then it would hold and then perhaps manipulate the wire easier. Just a thought
Hmm... that's an interesting idea... ❤️
You sound happy about your solutions!!
Well, yes. You'll see the end result on Wednesday! ❤
@@ArianeZurcher212 😀
So sorry for your eye ..hope you will be very soon wrll❤
Thanks so much. I think it will have healed by the time the final episode of this series is published! ❤😂❤
Wow oh my goodness can’t wait to see how this goes, so beautiful, thank you for sharing
Absolutely! It's been quite the creative adventure!! ❤️
i love this so much-and rewatching this!
Aw... Love Stef Francis! They're the BEST
OH MY OH MY OH MY.............taking a deep breath doesn't even cover it!!!!!!!!!!!! PHEW.........Bravery on the hoof. I remember way back in the day when i used to watch soap operas in my 20's [I'm now in my 80's........what was I ever thinking, right] and Fridays would come and the cliff-hanger episode had just ended and it seemed like it was going to be an eternity till its continuation on Monday. YUPPEROOS..........This whole vessel "thing" is just short of a Friday cliff-hanger. Is it Monday yet??????? I appreciate your transparency and willingness to go through the process of creating on camera. We, here at home, make our experimental opps-es here in our own Studios.........but totally OFF camera where no one can critique what we're doing. You on the other hand, have personified Bravery!!!!!!!! Is it Monday yet??????? Stay tuned. Blessings to you Ariane [expressed with a huge heart of gratitude].
Aw.... thank you so much Alice. You make me laugh, thank you for that!!! ❤️😂❤️ So here we are, and it is indeed Monday! There's one more episode where I finally unveil the finished piece, but that's not until Wednesday! So happy you're enjoying. This has been one incredible creative adventure. I'm very excited to begin another, but first, I have to clean up this studio!!
So enjoying this journey with you. Had to watch twice to see the wisdom of cutting. Clutching my pearls here in NC.
Haha! Love that. Not sure about the "wisdom" either, but it had to be done, I saw no way around it! Stay tuned! ❤️😂❤️
Hi Ariane, What if you worked over a large bowl (salad bowl, bread bowl)? You could slit the fabric in the places you want and add gores. Thank you for continuing the embroidery. You are an inspiration. Deb
Love that idea, and had I seen this before I went ahead and slashed away, I might have done exactly this. As it is, I did find that ironing sleeve helpful for the hand stitching and punching throwster over the areas I wanted to blur. ❤️
Love watching the progress. I found it interesting that you use your right hand when cutting. My son is a lefty and uses his right at the strangest times.
Yes, when I was in school they didn't have left handed scissors, so I learned to use my right hand for that. Then when my mother bought me a pair of left handed scissors, I was already so used to using my right hand, I couldn't make the adjustment, so just kept going with the right. ❤️
Love your thoughts and I believe in your path, can't wait to see where this goes!❤❤
Ha! Thanks so much CJ. This has been one exciting adventure for me. ❤️❤️❤️
While I was watching today I had an idea for a form other than the armature. You might try a papier mache form. You should be able to really get an interesting shape. I’m loving watching you go through the creative process and I love watching you stitch. So glad you’re back, you were missed.
Thx so much Barbara. Yes, I'm looking into other types of materials to get the shape I want (for my next vessel!) ❤️😂❤️. Paper Mache is an interesting idea, though I wonder if I'd still be able to stitch through it...
What do you think about victorian dresses that have all of the fabric slashing in the sleeves? I feel that’s exactly what you are doing and it will work! Don’t worry about finishing your work before your trip. Remember it’s all about the process and the experimentation! Love what you do!
Thank you so much! ❤️💕❤️
I love this project, I also love that you are using so many colors and fabrics in this-the stitching and the texture is gorgeous. I have wanted to use my kimono silk to make something-collage like and you may be inspiring me to do just that.
YEs! Go for it. Some of the material I used in the piece I cut from the large "Abstractions" piece is silk kimono from my mother! It is great to work with. ❤️
@@ArianeZurcher212 I think I will dig out some and see what happens-
You and your work are so inspiring…..
Aw... thank you so much!!
I don't know why I am thinking about this as it's not my project. If you google fabric vase, you can see some that are individual panels joined together in roughly the shape you had on the post it note. You would have seams to blend, but you could do that. That would give the bubble in the middle that you want. Please fix this as I am losing sleep. xx
Yes, I actually did do that and saw some really interesting things. There's one artist, Nancy Belfer, who makes the most incredible "vessels". Love her! Also, just so you can sleep 😂❤️😂 *Spoiler Alert* I did figure this thing out so stay tuned. Next video out tomorrow morning and the final video will be out Wednesday with the big reveal! ❤️
LOL, the old "WTF have I got myself into" phase. been there many a tine. sometimes you just have to change your vision
Haha! Exactly. Too funny. You get it. 😂❤️😂
Lol...guess I was too late! Lots of exploring to do!😮
Haha! Yup. ❤️❤️❤️
Perhaps large darts to help get tge shape you want instead of cutting into it? Darts would add more volume to it also.🤷🏾of course it would be smaller than you probably want. Oh well.....keep having fun!
I did consider this, though... but ended up, well you saw what I ended up doing. Slash and hopefully not burn!!
I don't know how I found you, but wow, I'm learning so very much!!! Thank you for your ability to share your thought process, I find it very helpful.
@@rozdragun3015 aw… thx so much! So glad you’re here! Welcome 🤗
Oh boy, I loved this video so much; it's making me very happy. You know, I think your "that's ok" will accompany me in future artistic endeavours. Your voice is so calming and reassuring when you say it. And it's also bloody true every time! <3 It's SO gonna be ok, and you SO got this :-D I've been thinking about the background to this piece and what you're going through in your life. Once again, the metaphor is absolutely striking (it's so much easier to see these things from the outside than when it's your own life haha!). you had a plan. you made a beautiful thing. And faced with a problem, instead of giving up, you've been incredibly brave, cut right into the middle of it and you're gonna fill those gaping holes with more beauteous colours and textures until they make the whole art piece even more beautiful than it would have been if you hadn't had this problem... How awesome is that?!! Life likes to chuck us these massive curveballs - it's what you then make with what's left that's the real art of living - don't you think? And don't you find that when life prevents you from achieving your original goal, it takes you in other directions that are so often more exciting than your first plan? Sure it sucks like hell when the tear or the hurdle or the ripping away happens, but what an opportunity! A practical thought: chicken wire rusts very nicely... only that may not be what you want for this vessel in the long run; if you have some spray varnish, maybe give it a good coat before you attach your material? Love you Ariane <3
Laure!! You have the BEST ideas! I just love reading all your thoughts. Love you!! Miss you!! I love the rusty chicken wire idea and definitely for another project!!! Your thoughts on this piece and life are so apt. Just love it, all of it and you. ❤️
You’re very welcome 😊❤. So glad it’s working for you! Love the cuts you made! A saying I heard from a Japanese woman doing Saori weaving said, “there are no mistakes, only design elements.” I go with that every time! Planning takes away from the wabi sabi of a piece. I just say, “I’m flying by the seat of my pants!” 😂
Haha! I love that - "Design Elements!" I have to remember that. This is a design element, I've decided! ❤️😂❤️😂
@@ArianeZurcher212 yes it is!!!
Beautiful seed stitch love it
Such a great stitch, isn't it?! Just love using the seed stitch. ❤️
Love what you are creating, it's beautiful! ❤🙂☀️
Thank you SO much!! ❤️
I would look for something stronger than chicken wire. Sometimes something like wire mesh or armature wire might work better for you. Love how it’s looking.
Yup... I'm on it! ❤️
You are having such great insight into rebirthing your flat fabric into your 3d vision. Yes, persistence is the answer. You may enjoy a look at the work of Paula Kovarik. She does some 3d work that is interesting. Happy stitching. But then isn't stitching always happy? Expansion and reduction create shape.
I LOVE Paula Kovarik and I interviewed her for this channel years ago. Here's the link in case you care to watch. She's fabulous! kzread.info/dash/bejne/aZeum7WAqtSvdtY.htmlsi=_yO_3Odvvbix9uav
Hi Ariane, i’m so happy you are making stitching videos again because I absolutely love your stitching creativity and watching you stitch. Close-up camera angle that you have is the absolute best and I appreciate it immensely. You make me smile… that tiny little 4-6 inch crocheted bottom piece has morphed into this largest vessel… I absolutely love it.💕🪡🧵🎉🇨🇦
Haha! Oh my, how that little lace doily inspired something so much different!! Too funny. ❤️❤️❤️
I can not say I am sorry this happened to you as you learn so much from things that take a turn on you that you had not anticipated. You will get there in the end. Best to you.
Thx so much Lynda. I so appreciate your confidence in me! ❤️❤️❤️
Don't beat yourself up! You are a constant learner and embrace this!
Thx Brenda! ❤️
Looking good.
Thank you Jeanette! ❤️
Wonderful job! Don’t go eat frustrated on draping your vessel form. Remember this is a beautiful experiment that we all love being inspired by and that’s a successful endeavor! Thank so much for sharing. ❤
Aw... thank you so much. I love "this is a beautiful experiment". Such a perfect description of this project! ❤️
