    Well, apparently not enough compassion if he was to allow protracted suffering of the Muskrat being killed by the Mink, when clearly, the Mink Man's "compassion" could have prevented suffering of the Muskrat by simply clobbering it atop its head, far more quickly than the Mink continuing to inflict pain of the kill upon it.

    Could it be that mink follow maturity patterns like dogs. With domesticated canines, they never really mature past the equivalence of the "toddler" stage. This may account for the domesticated mink sibling groups that do well together. The hunting for them is play rather than survival.

    Multiple hunting mink. And they said it couldn't be done. That's actually hugely interesting though. I wonder if you were to breed a separate pair, raise those siblings into adulthood and maturity together and socialise them to hunt with each other, then breed the two groups together and do the same process, etc etc, you would eventually get minks more naturally predisposed towards social groups and force a pack mentality.

    A scientist in Russia partially domesticated foxes, in his lifetime, using selective breeding. People have created completely new breeds of cats and dogs in their lifetimes, using selective breeding. Selective breeding is quicker the faster an animal reaches breeding age. If mink reach breeding age in a year, you can selectively breed 20 generations in 20ish yrs. Thats a Lot of changes you can make.

  • @ObsidianKing

    @ObsidianKing

    5 жыл бұрын

    Ah you make a good point, I didn't consider the litter sizes and how often mink breed. Of course, this is a slightly different affair to domesticating. While it's probably very easy to breed mink that show more aptitude towards other mink and co-operation over time, that's still not quite the same as creating an actual group mindset for a species without one.

  • @laartje24

    @laartje24

    5 жыл бұрын

    You would probably. There is prove that this works in other animal species. It is a new form of breeding focused on reducing agression in farm animals to improve welfare. With such a small group though you would have to watch out for inbreeding.

Came back after lunch and most of the rabbits were gone, but I observed one trying to drag a rabbit off which was to big for it. It left and returned with a friend a few moments later and the two of them dragged it away.

If a zoology/agriculture/biology student or something similar found this interesting, I see no reason why they couldnt do it.
