i have endless appreciation for how you handle frustration when working with animals. you are absolutely frustrated, i can hear it in your voice, but you remain patient and stick with your methods. consistency is key, and you are exemplifying that perfectly!
Watching him under the ice always gives me a small panic attack. Getting stuck under the ice is probably my single greatest fear and watching anything else do it willingly makes me horribly nervous.

I was playing a game online and was telling a friend about your channel and a random player I didn't know said "oh yeah I've seen that, I love it". You're definitely reaching more and more people.

Anyone else cheer Boon along on trying to get him to do what he is told? It's like you can do it, little guy, you can do it. hehe

I love that Sherni literaly is your right hand, you trained her so well! Mad respect! ♡
Good to show that things you work for don’t come easy, and that you have to have patience and persistence to achieve your desired results.
Burst out laughing when you called Boon a little jerk because he’s acting like one he is so funny when he hunts muskrats he forgets what he’s been trained to do

I don't think he forgot, I think he was being a defiant Mink.
The rebellious teenager. Even the best student will test the best teacher now and then.
8:25 Could be a scene in a thriller movie where after having a mink on his track, the muskrat protagonist is hiding in the pipes. He's suddenly hit a grid too tight to go through. The sound reverbs to the exit of the tube alerting the mink of his presence. The mink goes in, carefully searching every corner as the smell of fear in the air makes his skin crawl with anticipation. His desire for blood and his excitement are so great that he doesn't pay attention to a muffled high pitched sound from the outside. The muskrat hangs from the grid as if clinging to his own life, just an inch above the shallow water level as not to cause waves. As the notion of his own end conquer his mind, his trembling gives way to an immovable resolve. "I'll go down, but I won't make it easier for him" he thinks, hanging still as if frozen, his wide open eyes fixed on the corner from where his death shall come. The muffled screech echoes again through the pipes. Now the muskrat can see a shimmering in the water below. A rhythmic sniffing sound can be heard as the fading light is absorbed by a growing shadow on the adjacent wall. The whistling sound resumes, now clearer, and both the ripples and the sniffing cease immediately. A loud whiff goes off with frustration way too close for comfort. Then, the sounds in the water start moving away and the shadow lifts, letting the light in once again. "I gotta move away from Utah", goes through the muskrat's head as he climbs down the grid.
I love these videos. Joseph I believe your doggy praise voice is the best I've heard. I've had dogs all my life and I really appreciate your training methods. 😄
Mink man, I admire you a lot, I hope your channel continues to grow, please never stop !! We need more people like you, you are the best, your channel is the best of all time.
This is fascinating!!!!! Thank you for this upload! Beautiful, useful, cute little critchures, minks are.
Brings back so many memories of walking up and down the bayou in louisiana hunting anything that was considered pest. Coyotes / Nutria / Rats. Thanks for all the memories. I'd have loved to had more than a Black Lab with me. I'm fascinated by your mink training and will continue to support how I can
I'd love to just watch you work in person lol. It's already incredibly fascinating through youtube
Your patience is one of your great assets!👍👏💖
I really enjoy these videos Joseph. I think that reminding Boon of what he should do (going in the caching box) was a good idea and it helped a little with his wahahay. It seems he responded a little better at the end cache. I remember you doing a tug technique like that in some of your earlier vids. Good memories revisited. Excellent work my friend. Iki Ska is doing very well and we send you and your family our best ❤️
I kinda like the intimate camera set up. it gives off that cool homegrown vibe that one expects from this type of channel. when I started watching a few weeks back I was expecting most videos to just be you, your camera, and your mink but you have such a professional set up. awesome stuff all around
Saludos mi amigo Joe! I have watched every video, keep up the great work!
i like this style of filming!
I appreciate the hunts and education. Learn something new with every episode. Thank you.🇨🇦
I enjoy your ‘ stories ( blogs ) very much . I can relate with you , in that , I started deer hunting , using trained ‘ deer hunting ‘ dogs . I harvested my first deer at the age of 10 years old one my first hunt . My second day of hunting , I harvested my second buck ( a 10 ‘ pointer ‘ ) and feel the same way that you do after successfully training a hunting animal . I relive my young years by watching your hunting ( as for me , that was 60 years ago ) . Thank You
Hey mink man I found you today actually and watched so many of your videos man it’s super entertaining keep up the good work
I remember talking to you at Willow Pond. I've been here since you were at 100k. Glad your channel has grown this much
The way he says it at 17:02 I'm dying 😂😂
That frustrations happens a lot during dog training, too. A lot of arousal is always on the way of training. I think it just take time, like all other minks. :) Even a prodigy goes through the process of reaching maturity .
Love your channel. I’m from Utah, randomly found you content a few months ago. Watch every video. Good work
Started using my AKC whippet and AKC German Shorthaired Pointer for dealing with my rat and mouse problem In our detached garage, and they killed 3 rats, 4 babies, and 20 mice! I’ve created monsters now! They think every time I open the door, it’s hunting time. Very thrilled they did more in 2 days, then the traps did all winter! I couldn’t kill one mouse with a trap!

I have already progressed through that step. He instantly caches any dead muskrat he finds, it's after killing one that he has the trouble.
Not gonna lie I love videos like this, cause you really can see the training
Take me back to the beginning... A man his mink and his dog
How many hours and how often does a mink sleep a day?
Maybe the reason Boon is so good with rats but currently really bad with caching muskrats is because rats aren't really a mink's natural prey, so they don't have as many instincts about them and so Boon isn't having to fight any instincts when learning to cache them. But with muskrats, his instincts are giving him very strong messages which is why he keeps trying to hide the muskrats away.
Love watching the mink, there is a mink on the weber river that comes out everytime I go fishing in a certain spot it's fun to watch.
Hey Joseph, so you're training dogs, minks and now lizards. I have an idea, how about you train a fox to hunt? You have that one place where you're constantly breaking ratting records and a lot of them seem to have underground tunnels. Dogs are doing some good job at locating them but if you REALLY wanna get them all, a Fox sense of hearing is amazing and they'll find them real quick.

That would be cool to see. Like take in and rehab a young fox, and watch the magic happen.
I love this channel!
Maybe he feels like the opening of the box is too small to drag the muskrat inside of and therefore it's not a viable caching option.
Omg so cute. I must be so much fun living surrounded by cuteness
I’m so glad you’re getting back to hunting with mink. I remember when you where robbed and you lost your beautiful golden boy. That was such a hard hit I would’ve personally given up all together.
Hello Mink Man, i have been watching your videos for about 5 years now and i am in love with mink now and want 2 or 3 mink, i am very surprised on how much u have grown over the 5 years i have watched you. (also a name everyone should know : Black Mamba) i am very exited to see how much your channel grows over the years :)
Joe: "i'm waiting for him to release and then we're going home" **10 how-airs lay-tur** Boon: "i ain't releasing nothin" 😅
Thanks for sharing this hunt, even though it was frustrating for you. It helps us to learn what to do if we try to train an animal and the animal does the wrong thing!! 🙏🏻
Definitely joe knows where the feed and the activity is. Which means we are gonna see a muskrat
Can’t wait to finally see Raptor full grown messing rats up this summer
I like how the dogs can determine who a team mate an who's the prey
Great Show
Awesome training!!! That's very cool bro!! Lovi it
He just loves muskrat so much
Amazing series 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I'm always enjoy watching your vids
Joseph he's just training the trainer LOL😊
It must be one of those Monday for Boon. Hope he snap out of it and goes back to his training.
Boon is such a good boy.
Respect how your work whit your animal.s Hello form holland keep it up i love it
Great great great work
He's coming to you because he smells the food you're holding probably. Maybe keeping the food in the bag until he's in the box would help?
This is absolutely fascinating
you told me its not always straight worward teaching stuff to animals. Dont forget that. Im sure he will do more progress soon! Good job
Great video
Thanks for sharing : I was watching one of your videos from about a year ago, in which the dogs were hunting along side the mink, question: how did the dogs learned not to bite the Mink when hunting?
Love your channel , is it just because of change of species or could it be something else?
I enjoyed the walk in the woods. Most of your videos are relatively action-packed- you must spend hours editing down footage- and it's a different slant to be reminded of exactly how much time you spend on stuff in-between the lively parts. Kudos to you for your patience and methods in training- it's clear that you've been doing it a long time and are good at it- though it's also somehow reassuring to see (at the end) that you're human like the rest of us (lol) and are able to get (a bit) frustrated sometimes. This lapsed Mormon had a quick grin at 21:29's "CTR"; not sure if your reference was intentional or unconscious, but my head suddenly echoed with 50-year-old memories of children singing that song in primary.
New to the channel. Incredible interesting!
Boon is oblivious to the cold. It's hard to watch an animal go under the ice, but it's normal to them.
Poor Boon.....he's completely excited, he found it on his own...you didn't help today. Once he calms down he will figure it out I'm sure. Oh boy....
mink going through puberty lol
I am a huge fan but can't afford the 3.99 a month for your other channel wish I could but keep up the great work love watching this stuff
Great work bud!🍻 Have you ever thought to try training Marten or Fisher's 🍻 awesome job with Raptor too 🐲

Probably because you can't 💯💸
Maybe this is dumb, but Boon is a particularly large mink and he might have an easier time caching rats than the larger muskrats. Maybe try a caching box with a larger tunnel?
I enjoy your dogs and mink catching rats. Question? Is the mink related to the ferret.
This was more like Boon Hunting in its purest Form.
You should sell mink plushies. The mink are so stinkin cute.
I love a happy ending
This is amazing! Makes me want to get a mink
I wish we had mink here in cape town south africa so many diary farms here
So cuteeeeeeee!
Hey Mink Man! How many times do you get bit when doing this? And do you have any one story that stands out? Thanks!
woo hoo!!! mink man video !
Hi Joseph I hope you are well. Long time subscriber and fan of your channel here. I was wondering do all of your mink live separately? Or are you able to socialise them together at all or house them together?

Awesome video
Next challenge train a cat to do ratting !!! Love the vids so cool!
He made me laugh being disobedient
You need an animated series of you and boon. Watching you raise your family is neat.
Maybe the mink perceives the muskrat as a higher value prey, either due to the amount of work involved or higher quality meat than a rat? Or maybe it's his personal favorite, and as a result is more hesitant about sharing? I've noticed with my pets, when they have their "favorite" food they tend to be a bit more leery of sharing or even having people near by
Mink are very cute, it’s hard to believe they are difficult to tame
So Cool! Great videos :3
Boon has the highest body count in the Muskrat War.
Hell of a ride
So bro you had a passion for mink & you built your channel off of it ?? If so you are great
Hello alpha good to see you and The Blue Wolf luna are doing good😏
i feel like you could try a very slightly larger tube with muskrats? he looks like that tube does 'feel' right for muskys
Boon ya little imp do what you are told! 🤣 He is smart but maybe in a bad mood that day. I believe animals can be like people, maybe he just didn’t feel like obeying! Being defiant to his hooman. LOL He’s so cute though, I adore minks.
Late at night for Utah!!
The last couple videos I've seen of boon caching muskrat are in the same area it looks like. It also seems like the exact same hole he's wanted to bring his kills to, could be he likes that den. I'd have to go back to check videos again to see if there are other areas but maybe try changing his box to a bigger one to take things in?
Good job 👏👍👌
Maybe get a stuffed or frozen Muskrat and try cache training in that pond area in your backyard. If Boon is regressing like that maybe just going back to the basics with a muskrat instead of brown rat. Just a suggestion and love your videos, Good work dude!
early! boon is soo cute
I wish I could go hunting not far from my home like you you're lucky me I live in the UK where hunting here you have to have licences for and the variety you have is unbelievable with that said happy hunting fellas 🦝🐭🐹🐿️
Boone very confused..you got that muskrat scent all over the place. Its on your hands, the box, the ground. Although..boone running way downstream to sneak away from you troubling too. Boone really loves those big caches..a muskrat us highly prized by boone
this is so cool you probably do alot of hunting and trapping off camera
