How is it possible for them to catch the rats by hand? Rats around my vicinity will definitely bite when touched.

Oh yeah rats are vicious! They will bite any chance they get! I just don't give them the chance 😉 If you know how to grab them you can catch all kinds of animals bare handed. I've caught raccoons, feral cats, obviously bucket loads of rats, muskrats, snapping turtles, an alligator, even a beaver once, using nothing but my bare hands! If you know where and how to grab them, you can avoid the sharp end 😉 Though of course accidents happen from time to time, you just have to use them as a learning experience to get good at avoiding the accidents, and be tough enough to deal with them when they come.

Id say the same way dogs and minks catch them! If you look at 1:40 you see Sherni carefully following the rats movement, to find the right place to bite. I've noticed the minks do the same thing! They do everything they can to avoid those teeth!

To be fair, I think Sherni did most the digging that day - her big paws can just move more dirt. Sherni had mounds of patience with her though and they kept switching back and forth between holes. Buttercup had more than a few steals from Sherni's holes. LOL! But they made a really good tag team all day.

@@updownstate Agree with that, Cats are intense and will stalk quarry for days - ideal for a mouse in your pantry. Then they kill one and disappear with it. Very often, the smell of a predator around is enough to get the mice to quit, but then which is worse in your kitchen? Mice or cat smell? ;) Dogs (and i'm including foxes here) will kill everything in a frenzy for the joy of doing it. I help my kid out with pest control and I have seen over and over a fox get in a hen coop, kill everything then leave with one carcass.

I am “owned” by a Brussels Griffon which were a breed originally kept around as ratters in the horse stables. Over time they were bred in such a way that their faces are pretty flat so they aren’t fit to perform this work anymore like your terriers are but that instinct is still there. She used to chase squirrels, catch small mice and lizards but at 13 years old now shes just interested in belly rubs, naps and treats. People who dislike these videos forget that dogs like mine and even those Yorkies with the little red bows in their hair still have the same prey drive, this is in their blood and they love to hunt.

I have to say buttercup is one of my favorite dogs to watch on this channel, she is absolutely vicious with those head-shakes. 😆

You just have to love the enthusiasm and energy of these little dogs, and the mink. They are in their element, being allowed to excercise their primeval instincts. It is clear to see they just love what they do.

She's a Jack Russell! I had a little girl just like her, nothing got past her! I love watching these videos! It's just amazing. Some people think it's abuse, no, it's not! It's life! If we never domesticated dogs... this is what they would be doing in the wild! I'm so glad I found this channel!

You wouldn't know it by looking at her but Buttercup is lethal.

It’s cool to see how the bigger dogs rely more on their crushing jaws to break the rats bones and kill them that way while smaller dogs shake them in order to break their backs and neck. When the bigger dogs are taking down a rat you can hear their bones crushing

That's just a terrier trait. Bite and hold rather than multiple bites. American bulldogs, pitys etc all bite and thrash whereas others will bite you a dozen times

Both have more then enough bite force to kill the rat. Good dogs learn to shake as it saves them getting bit by the rat

@@akatsukiawsome13 we have a 16 year old rat terrier/Chihuahua and at her prime she would chase after ones she'd spot inside the house. Now her grandson has taken the role, but thankfully he doesn't have to often.

@@coletrane3899 efficiency; she expends less energy to size of kill ratio. The bigger dogs should be keeping the foxes/ coyotes away.

I love watching how buttercup ragdolls the rats. Good stuff lol

21:35 had me DYING. Buttercup smacked that rat against the plastic thing about 47 times in a second in a half. Beautiful.
