Joe, do your Mink ever get injured during a hunt? Those Muskrats have nasty claws.

  • @JosephCartertheMinkMan

The muskrat claws are dull and harmless. It is there giant knife like teeth that you need to worry about! Mink are somehow expertly skillfull at avoiding any type of serious injury while hunting. They get minor bites every now and then, but I have never had one of my personal Mink receive any serious injuries from their prey. Though having said that, I have friends who's mink have been seriously injured. I've been fortunate so far in all my years it hasn't happened to my mink yet.

@@JosephCartertheMinkMan if I may ask, what is you plan in case one gets hurt? I would think a vet visit for serious injuries (do vets even work on minks?) but what do you do for cuts and bruises? Maybe a future video idea for you could be about addressing hunting injuries. Just an idea.

@@radioactiveslam8352 Every bite I've seen in my mink have been so minor they only medical attention necessary is to just watch that it doesn't get infected. I used to use antibiotic ointment or internal antibiotics, but I've found that they seem to cause more problems than they fix (like stressing out the mink while applying the ointment, or getting diarrhea from the antibiotics). So I have now determined it is best to just keep an eye on the wound and drain any puss if an infection starts. So far since I have started this method of handling things, they have healed up just fine on their own.

The one thing I love more about your channel over the mink, family, and lessons is how for people who are lost in life this shows us how we really need to start thinking outside the box. I mean, your doing something. It may not be your main source of income but it will eventually. But more importantly it's shows people that there is always something new to try and to go out there and take the risk. You were one of the first channels that impacted me in that way. I wanna thank you for that. Regards -Ghst

Good call to let it go. I felt bad for the guy after I saw his eyes. Not that I would be offended if he became food. Psychologically for the audience, you never want them to get attached to the prey. It's the reason ranchers don't get close to their livestock.

I'm trying to decide what I want to do with my life rn and what career path to take and honestly, I'm starting to seriously consider a farm life for myself or a natural form of pest control like you do. I think doing something with animals and people, outdoors hunting things is my dream job. I'm a city girl, born and raised but I crave a farming lifestyle. Your videos are extremely inspirational to me and you have improved so much. Thanks again and btw, please keep it up with the captions and slow motion shots, they are unbelievably useful.

I always look forward to watching these videos. It is so cool to see how you solve pest control problems using a natural and humane method, and throughout the entire experience, you have genuine respect for both predator and prey. It's refreshing because you're realistic, logical, and respectful, but you don't cater to the people who complain about animal cruelty and know nothing about animals in the wild, or who humanize animals to the point where they don't understand any natural body language and behavior. Clearly your dogs and mink have the best life possible! Keep up the good work!

The close up of the muskrat was great! I'm just worried because all we need is the 'one' person who now thinks the muskrat is 'cute' and throws a fit.

They are pretty cute, but they are an invasive species so they're doing a favor to the ecosystem by reducing populations.

Joseph, you are the real deal my friend. I used to Ferret when I lived in the UK and I loved every minute of it. Since moving to the US I don't hunt with ferrets any longer but I watching these awesome animals in the wild. Back in the UK, one of the orchards I used to shoot had a resident weasel! Me and that guy had an understanding, he would flush the rabbits from the warren, you imagine that, a tiny little weasel taking on a rabbit! Anyhow, he would flush and I would shoot the rabbit, leaving it for the weasel to eat. This symbiotic relationship lasted about 2 years until a cat of all things ended the weasels life! Keep up the good work, I love watching your videos and the passion you have for these incredible animals.
