The Model kit in this video is the new Galileo Shuttlecraft, 11 inches long, and 1:32 scale. Polar Lights / Round2 will be releasing this kit in just a few weeks.
This is everything after the unboxing. This is the complete build process, the planning, building, painting, decaling and pictures of the completed build.
It's a longer video, about 35 minutes, but you'll see everything involved in making the Galileo.

A few comments... 1) The 22-ft prop has noticeable seams where the "wings" plug into the main body. They made no attempt to hide the seams on the show, so they were apparently meant to be seen. The 22" miniature had no seams, so you can build the Polar Lights kit with or without them. 2) The two red panels with indecipherable lettering represent what was seen on TOS. Even on Blu-ray, I couldn't read the markings, so for the decals, I added text that occupies the same area as it did on the show. The two panels with legible markings represent the markings on the restored shuttlecraft. The initials on the left-side panel are those of Adam Schneider and his family, while the initials on the right side represent Gene Roddenberry, Matt Jefferies, Gene Winfield, plus the initials of those involved in the restoration, including me. :) 3) It wasn't cost-effective to add panels to the roof of the 22-footer because they wouldn't be seen, but if they had, they would have used raised Masonite panels, like the panels elsewhere on the ship, because you can't neatly scribe Masonite. I think it would be kosher to cut panels from 10- or 20-thousandths inch sheet styrene and glue them to the roof. Much easier than scribing, too! 4) The Galileo should have a 2-tone paint scheme. Long story, but the upper hull is the same color as the gray markings under the front ends of the nacelles on the Enterprise model, while the underside is the same color as the impulse deck & nacelle recesses on the Enterprise.

The set was / is 24 feet. Direct from the Shipwright that worked on it. At 32nd scale the model would be nine inches, not eleven. At eleven inches at 32nd scale the set would be 29 feet long.. Someone screwed the pouch on simple scaling and math. LOL!

Wow, it's been a long time since I've seen The Galileo ... One of my favourite transport ship's.. This kit was one of my first kit's as a youngster in the early 70's .. I also had this kit in the late 80' early 90's.. If I remember correctly, both of those kit's come with the seat's and dash board. But I have to say that the new kit is very nice . You did a fantastic job and It's a great show piece for your collection.. Appreciate your sharing of the build as well as the tip's.. Very helpful information. Now I've got to get this new kit , I'm ready to get at it and have some fun with her. 👍🇺🇸

What a gorgeous model! Fantastic build/review with excellent tips. You put a tremendous amount of thought, time and consideration before and during the build. Love the sage tip, “Things don’t really fit until they do”. NICE. I’ve found this to be true in many of my vinyl builds as well. I do believe following the instructions is a good idea until it isn’t and your demonstration of this was also spot on(another excellent tip on assembly). Your plans to hide all wiring while keeping the battery and switch disguised but accessible was well engineered(Scotty would approve). I can tell you enjoyed the Galileo build as much as I enjoyed watching. Have you ever used DYMO EMBOSSING TAPE? It is a thick plastic/vinyl tape that can be used to assist in guiding the scribing tool around compound curves. Cut the tape to the curve you want, tape in place, scribe and dispose of tape. The tape has enough tackiness to securely hold into place but not so tacky to leave any residue on the model. Also MicroMark sells scribing tools online for your consideration. I found scribing tools indispensable. They cut(not gouge nor push plastic into ridges). Hope it’s useful. Thank you so much for sharing. As a Star Trek fan and former syfy model builder you have inspired me. I look forward to any of your future builds. Well Done!

Nice job and cant wait to get a hold of it. I go back and forth about the interior especially since most of it wont be easily seen if the upper and lower halves are sealed. I dont think I’ll be scribing or applying the panels on the roof especially since they weren’t seen on the show. I find it amazing we’re all still learning little details about these iconic models. Really liked the access panel you devised for the switch and battery. Thanks for sharing

The Polar Lights kit has some nice features over the original AMT kit. Rather than cut a big hole in the bottom for batteries, I would have installed a lithium pack inside, accessible with the top removed, and charged it either wirelessly or through a small plug-in connector (think micro USB phone charger) mounted in the little panel in the back that opens and closes. That said, I'm 57yo and I was installing miniature light bulbs, fibre optics, and blinking LEDs in all my space ship models, including the Viper, Galactica, and all of the Star Trek models including Galileo 7 (with full interior and lights inside and out) in 1975 when I was 12. I also built lots of cars and trucks with all exterior and interior lighting, cloth seats and carpets, air-brushed wear and tear and dirt. Glad to see there's still people interested in going beyond the raw kit. The lights really add a lot of appeal. I'm sure that someone will come out with a nice lighting controller PCB and LED kit for this Galileo kit. A wireless power base would be nice too. Parts to build such features are cheap these days. RGB LEDs on the dashboard displays, rotating nacelle dome lights, all are easy to accomplish. For example, use a cheap tiny Arduino Nano as a controller, some discrete LEDs and a few serial RGB LEDs and there you have it. Lots of smart lighting kits have been produced for Jupiter 2 and other kits so I'm sure several kits will appear for this as well as 3D print files for interior components. Another idea, you could place a small 1" OLED graphics display inside the ship and have it showing cool Trek images or simulated readouts and scanner images. Also, sounds for the engines and scanners and things could be added, again using any common controller (i.e. Arduino, Raspberry-Pi) that can play mp3 file audio. Super small controllers are available that can do this but if your controller is too big for the ship then you could place the controller inside a custom base and transmit the sound and lighting control commands to the ship via small bluetooth or zigbee or even wifi module. Just saying, the sky is the limit... or is it?

For the nacelle landing skids You could flatten the top of the shaft just a bit so it wouldn't slide all the way out and not glue the skids so they'd be retractable.

You could have just cut out the paper templates, and then glued them down to the roof. Then just paint over them. The thickness of the paper would give you the outline of the panels without scribing.
