    Fun Fact. On the real Galileo filming prop that was used the AMT Model company was obligated to make and provide it to secure the rights to make the model kits of it. It was 2/3rds scale of what was designed as full size so it was filmed quite a bit from distance and with the camera's on the floor level viewing up angles. They had put landing gear supports on the 2 nacelle's however these were towards the front of the prop with the aft part just resting on the floor. The solution when they started using it more to film for exterior shots of the rear of the craft was to have the landing gear pad machined and added to the prop. So the whole thing was mostly plywood and fiberglass, with sheet metal curled to make the nacelle's and an expensive machined landing brace in the rear. The company also made the full scale interior with removable wall and roof sections that was used to film the interior shots. The prop had the doors mounted so that it could be opened with the food pad and the 2 sections of the top separating into 2 and sliding into the interior of the prop hull. This was somewhat of a complicated mechanism on rope pully's and was quite clever as it worked well. they did at some point put seats and front dashboard parts inside that was just enough to film actors climbing in and sitting for quick shots. If you watch the scenes though it is quite obvious that the tall actors have to really duck to enter and exit the prop. This also made problems with the filming scale of the shuttle bay in the show, although Nerds only really noticed this in the 1970s when they could pick apart things like that after watching the re-runs several times.

    Super job on the Shuttle Oggie, it turned out excellent. I'm not sure if you use a power supply when setting up your lighting. If you do, pay attention to the amperage draw. With that you can use a math formula, available online, and combine it with the mil/amp hour specs of your battery. This will tell you exactly how long in minutes/hours that it will run. Keep in mind also that the lights will dim considerably during the last 25-30% of the calculation. You might consider checking out rechargeable lithium ion battery packs. They are relatively cheap come in small size with a charger and jack that you can put some where on the model. Then, you never have to take it out for charging. Just plug in the charger, usually a 3mm jack. Our local shows never provide table top power for us lighted model guys so I adapted and overcame lol. The lithium battery will last all day and then some. They are available in many amp hour ratings. Just use that formula to figure out how much reserve you want. Great tip on those tiny magnets too. I ordered some and they will come in very handy. Keep up the good work and informative videos :)

    Yes I know what you mean. I think this is one of those circumstances where what we see on screen doesn't match up physically to what is possible. A shortcoming of many a sci-fi vehicle. Structure doesn't always equate to function Lol. Thanks David. I appreciate your kind compliments

    Looks great. Always appreciate the strategy, references, sourced materials and complications to note for the build. The Galileo 7 episode was one of my favorites as it was maybe the next most focused starship(craft) next to the Enterprise from TOS. Btw, do you prefer watching the original series or the new remastered versions where they updated the special fx? Kind of relates back to the debate on the original SW trilogy vs Lucas's Special Edition of the original trilogy. Original for nostalgic factor. Updated just to see how it may or should have been had the technology been available back then. At least with ST TOS, I do feel the new SFX and added/improved scenes gives more detail and dynamic quality to the series.

    Hi and thanks for all of the kind comments. I have the DVD set that contains both the old and new effects but these days I'm too lazy to put them in now and just stream the show whenever I watch it LOL. Or I just turn on Pluto TV and watch whatever's on, either way the new effects are the ones shown. I can go either way with the effects but I personally think the new effects were hit and miss. It's a shame they didn't pour a bit more effort into them because they could have looked better(less cartoony or video game-like). I know what you mean of how they give more detail as many of the old effects were reused numerous times. Thanks for the comments and for watching.

    The interior set of the Galileo shuttle was larger in volume and the ceiling was higher than the exterior dimensions of the shuttle. If they used the mock up for the interior shots the actors could not stand up straight nor could the floor panel be removed to reveal fuel and power conduits.

  • @InterstellarModeler

    @InterstellarModeler

    Yes....explains why the figures can seem a little out of proportion here. Also the windows are impractical as they can barely see out of them. Sci-fi ships are notorious for not matching up exterior and interior dimensions all that well. But....it's still a cool ship. Thanks for watching.

  • @stltrekmodels.4157

    The only design flaws that I do not like about this design is that the forward view portals are placed to high in full scale to be practical for the crew members to use as a per-se windshield, and it is quite noticeable. The interior filming prop had them lower from the inside and the angle of the front view bulkhead is at a different angle than the design is. also just a small nit pick. they didn't have any side view portholes in the design, which you wouldn't have to have, but I think would be practical. It still was a cool design for the time that they came up with the design though.
