I had the AMT shuttle when I was young in the 70s. I remember it had an interior, I think there were seats in there, no? This one looks stellar ( 🌟!) Genius customizing on that back panel cover. Your videos like this are fun and relaxing.

Thank you Nathan! I appreciate your comments! Yes the old kit did have an interior with seats. I believe a second market interior kit is being developed for this one. That back panel was tricky but it thankfully worked out.

I built the AMT version a few years ago and used flat square led's on the ceiling for the interior lighting and used T1-3/4 red for the nacelle caps, and glued the caps on unpainted. I also painted the front of the engine silver, before the caps went on, which does a good job of blocking any stray light past the cap. I guess I am a bit surprised there is no interior detail on this new larger 1/32 model. At least seats and a back door panel that could be seen if you lit the inside. I might wait and see if they come out with either a mod, or if there is something after-market for the inside. Thanks for the great video!

Thank you! That lighting you did sounds like it turned out great! I debated lighting this but ultimately decided to go with what the original model had. I think Randy Cooper Models is selling an interior for this from what I was told. I agree. It should have come with an interior. I think if I build another one, I might go all out with lights, interior and a slightly darker gray for the bottom half. Thank you for the great comment!

I really didn't want that gray to be too dark. I appreciate that you're putting lights in it. I really debated whether to do that or not. Since I bought two of these, I thought I'd start out with a basic build of it first. Thank you for the kind words!

To hinge that access panel in the aft of the interior, one can purchase photo-etched metal panel hinges, which one must bend appropriately, insert between the two halves a bit of thin metal rod, glue into proper place each half, and paint in the colour scheme. It may be rather fiddly, but if one can manage the task, it can work well.

I'm currently building this kit, and I ran into the same exact problem that you did with the back section. I've been building models for maybe 50 years, and this rear assembly is so poorly engineered, that it makes you wanna pull your hair out. It should've been made where this entire section goes together a lot more easier. I had to walk away and take a break from it all, and think it out about how to approach it again. I came so far already, and all of my sub assemblies are perfect. Hoping I can overcome this rear assembly. And this is coming from a guy who built the 1/350 scale Academy kit of the Titanic, including scratchbuilt, 700+ parts. Yeah... this rear section had me really scratching my head. Michael Spressler

Thank you! I totally agree! It was very frustrating to build that part. I think one side of mine never quite fit just right and I ended up settling for the way it is. It's not very noticeable at all but I know it's there and it bothers me. You know how that goes. I definitely think that back section should have been better engineered for sure.

It seems that Round 2 Models plan to release both a separate interior and included interior with the next release of the Polar Lights Galileo Shuttlecraft in the summer of 2022.Now in case they don't include figures with the interior,I wonder if the figures of the AMT Enterprise Bridge which they say is in 1/32 scale will be the right size for the Galileo Shuttlecraft.

That little red panel on the aft was magnetic on the original. In the episode, “Metamorphosis,” you can see Spock pull it off and stick it to the hull above the opening. The cover was painted red and inside that panel were a few lights and a bit of a glow, so the inside part is clear so you can make it light up and glow. I don’t know why they molded the outside cover in clear. That makes no sense. But if you carefully leave spots unpainted on the inner part, you can make it look like lights inside there.

It's a relatively simple kit but there's certain things that could have been better. The side walls don't really have a flat connection point from the bottom to the top. That back area was a bit of a fight because of the angles and that black area (with the white "windows") had to fit very specifically to the walls. I'm not sure I even got one side completely on but it's not noticeable if I didn't. All in all it's a nice kit though. A bit expensive for what it actually is but it looks great when complete.

it looks like a really nice kit I still have my original Galileo that I customized to be more accurate to what it was supposed to look like and I didn't worry too much about the interior of the rear hatch cuz you didn't see the interior of the rear hatch except for when the Galileo seven was crashed landed on Talos 2. and speaking of two they kind of messed up on their decal sheet because they apparently have the Columbus as being number 3 and the Columbus was not number 3 Columbus was number two it was the Copernicus that was number 3 so they kind of got that one wrong. Course then again they left the name Copernicus completely off the decal sheet but there was a Copernicus just like there was in Star Trek v there was also a star fleet shuttlecraft on the Enterprise that was also the Copernicus in the original series. the only other thing that seems to be a disappointment is that just like the original kit there are no figures it would have been nice to at least had crewmen to put inside the model just like it would have been nice to have had them in the original but you can take the crew figures from the bridge set the sitting ones and placed them inside but you would at least think for the cost of this kit they would have also included a crew inside.

Interesting about the decals. I never noticed that. Yes it is a nice kit. I do think it's a bit expensive for what you actually get. Without the interior, it's pretty much an empty box but it's nice to get a shuttlecraft kit in this scale that doesn't cost as much as the expensive resin kits.

Why would you choose not to put the back strut on? It was on both the full scale mock up and the miniature. It was only when they did the new SFX that they had it retract and tuck into the hull after takeoff.

  • @outsider238

When it was in "flight mode" the strut was not out even in the original special effects. At least in the scene where it's facing the camera. You can see there's no landing pads sticking out under the nacelles so the back strut is more than likely retracted as well. Most of the time you do see it on though. @@danwilliams1686 It's quite possible. They used the same effects over and over because of the budget. It's possible the scenes where the struts are deployed were better for general use type of shots so they were used more frequently and so that's why some people don't remember them in the retracted position.
