104 Years Old Cooking Stove Restoration - Why Did They Stop Producing Them?

In this video, I restore an old rusty cooking stove made in France in the 1920s. More about the restoration process: It was very challenging but rewarding, as usual, and I learned a lot about cooking stoves! The little stove was in disrepair when I got it. The fuel tank was damaged entirely and couldn't be used anymore; it had a considerable hole that required a lot of skill and patience to repair, as well as many dents and a missing lid. The inside mechanism was utterly gone, too, and I had to rebuild it from scratch. If you want to learn more about this antique French stove, I encourage you to watch this video. When I saw it, even though I was shocked at how bad it looked, full of dents, bends, rust, and burn! The most challenging part was the tank, which had a wick stuck inside and many holes.
After removing the rust, the parts were painted with heat-resistant paint, and I polished all the beautiful brass parts. At the end of the video, I made a test so you can see how it works! More about the camping/cooking stove: It was manufactured by the famous F. VULIN et Cie, Réchaud à pétrole 'AZUREA,' at the beginning of 19 century. I hope I have caught everything, but if you have any questions, you can comment, and I'll get back to you! Cheers! Johnny.

@@rustyshadesrestoration I concur with his very correct words. I am one of many that are intimmidated by tools and not loosing a screw or nut or wire. And then if you get it appart. You need to remember where in order it goes. IN REVERSE by the way. WOW that sounds daunting. TY for the channel.

Finished piece looks great! :) I've use temperature contrasts to break glass after scoring it. Heat for some seconds with a flame and then straight away to cold water. Snaps perfectly on the scored line. :) I wander if it works with "heat resistant" glass too. The original red paint in probably powder coating, no? (was there powder coating when they made these? 🤔) Anyone know what is the metal sheet on top for?

You can do whatever you want, laugh/cry, i don't care; nobody is born with such skills, but we improve by practising and never giving up, and I'm pleased with my progress; I don't care that it doesn't look like the soldering of a guy with ten years of experience or more. I'm not here to impress anybody or tell you I'm better than you are at something; I am here to do my passion and to learn, share and experiment. Your comment shows that you are very jealous, and you find something to comment on...but the rest doesn't matter to you, like, the fact that the job was done correctly and everything looks and works fine :) Btw, that's brass, not copper 😉 Perhaps you should try to be a better human by advising us if you are so talented at this, so I'm waiting for your soldiering video classes. Good luck!

@@rustyshadesrestoration I don't care if the job is bad, I'm talking about it being unnecessary. While there is already a stop on the adjustment knob, adding a piece across the bar with solder is a laughing matter.

There is also nothing to laugh about. The copper stopper was necessary. Yes, there is one for spinning the regulator too much, but there was none to keep it at the same level as the other one and not to move freely back and forth. Pay more attention to them.
