AMT U.S.S. Enterprise Command Bridge: Dusting Off An Old Favorite
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This is the AMT U.S.S. Enterprise Command bridge model kit from 1974.
I built the kit in 2011 and it was one of my first on my channel. It was dusty and neglected so I took some time to freshen it up and add some extra details.

That original bridge is such a cool place!
i thank you for getting my foot back into modeling again. Now if I could just find more time . More time is so funny.
When I built mine (way back when) I wrote AMT and asked if I could get an extra set of figures and they sent a set back...very nice of them
Have you seen the giant bridge display on KZread, it's like two or three feet around, it all lights up, and apparently an artisan made it, and then the owner constructed a full coffee table frame around it with a huge round piece of tempered glass. You have to see this thing, it's the most amazing thing, and it's a coffee table so it's not just a display, it's always there to enjoy even when you're just lounging and it doesn't take up any extra display space in your house.

I watched the original build video from 2011 the other night and then to see your update was really a nice treat... Great job and as always, with all your Trek Works projects, very inspiring.
Masterful piece of work! Keep it up.
My Christmas is definitely going to be saved by my modelling and revisiting some of your build videos. Wishes for a safe joyful Christmas to you.
Very nice, love the lighting, especially those blue knee-panel 'vents' with that blue glow.
Thanks for sharing this again Boyd. It reminded me I still have mine still in the box collecting dust. Lol. I’ll get to it.
Really looks great. Those panels are awesome.
Jeez! I can't believe it's been that long! I remember when you built this. It still looks fantastic today! It's really held up which is a reflection of how good of a job you did on it.
Really cool build. I kind of want one myself
I need to find the new bridge model with all the figures and full bridge. Very cool. Excellent Build!!!!
I've always liked that build. It was the first of many, and you should definitely be proud of it!

Nice job there Boyd, love it :) Merry Christmas to you too sir LLaP
I've never built that one. Awesome to see it - great lighting work! Merry Xmas everyone
I enjoyed this when you 1st posted it and I enjoyed it again today. It's a beautiful model.
Happy Holidays Boyd. Looking forward to more great builds in 2021.
I remember this wonderful build! Happy Holidays to you, Boyd!
wow, classics, very very cool work 🙂
what a great model thank u so much for sharing the star trek bridge and merry christmas and better new year to everyone god bless
When you built this kit, you "boldly went where no man had been before"!
Your a miracle worker, Merry Christmas
I have a 70's AMT bridge model with zero tech. It remains in the box; I never built it. Same with the shuttlecraft. This is nice work.
I can’t sleep and I see a new video from you of an awesome kit! Visiting my mother in law here I Texas just a few hours away from you and always happy to see you are always up to something in the model world! Merry Christmas Boyd to you and yours and all the modeling family out there!

Still a cool kit , merry Christmas to you as well Boyd.🖖🎄👍
Hi, I loved the model of the bridge with the side missing. As the other one reminds me of Christopher Pike's Enterprise when you zoom into the bridge as you only see it from the top. Stay safe from Covid-19 to you and your loved ones.
Another nice video.Merry Christmas !!!
Looks great. I have that kit and I was thinking of doing a clear dome over the top.
I still have a unbuild old release and a really old resin upgrade kit with the extra walls, improved chairs and improved panels. Still haven't gotten around to start it

I remember seeing that set at Don's Light & Magic. It was expensive for the whole thing but well worth it. The detail was spot on, mainly the view screen and Spock's station are way better than this kit. There are some fantastic builds here on You Tube complete with miniature LCD screens at all of the stations and more.
Very nice Boyd. 👍
thats so cool man great job on ur first channel build 🖖
Outstanding, Boyd!
Thanks for sharing, that looks great!
I remember this build well. Nice that liberated some of the second issue's parts to help this one. You should build the "complete" version-- then you might get one of those "sugar cube" cameras and set up a simple overhead tracking gadget to move it around smoothly-- any view you wish.
That is an awesome build.

Man Boyd I can't believe how many views on the video. Cool to see. Almost makes me want to build it! Gave mine to Steve Neill years ago.
Well done! I think I remember watching the video you made! Since then I’ve been very impressed by your love for Star Trek and your creativity and skill. Watching your 1/350 tos build makes me appreciate the build you did for me! I really enjoy it!!! Keep up the good work! Merry Christmas and happy new year. By the way should you ever run out of space for any of your Star Trek models let me know I’d be happy to provide a good home to them!! 😇
Hey boyd have a merry Christmas to u and your family have a great one
Very cool. I want one
I've called all my local hobby shops, and they all tell me the Round 2 model is discontinued and they can't order it for me, nor do they have any in stock. I can find plenty of the originals up on eBay, but I'd very much like the Uhura and Zulu figs as well. A few month back, I bought my very first hot wire cutter and templates for cutting XPS foam. Been wanting to get into making dioramas, and this kit would make for an excellent starting point.
I remember that one. I never built it, I was more into planes but I had a good friend that did and had it in his room.
Awesome , I think its great. Thanks for sharing
AMT is about to re-release this kit. I never got it as a kid in the 70's and missed the first re-issue you built, so I'm stoked! I'm going to do all the lighting in it. Hopefully the aftermarket upgrades are still available, or, maybe, someone will do some new ones.

I too, am waiting for this model. It should be out by end of January according to Monsters In Motion. I hope you post on one of the FB Star Trek groups that I belong to, because I want to trade info about the build!
Awesome! I think you now need to build an Enterprise big enough to put that bridge module into. And with the new Galileo kit in the hangar bay.

Not seen that in a while, Good idea one the model camera crew and is where a 3d resin printer could come into play. Happy holidays Boyd stay safe and well.
I had a mate who had this it was really great
I remember when you worked on that little table/bench. It was on a different channel if memory serves. 🤔 Can’t believe it’s been THAT long!
I love the new complete bridge kit. Bought two when they were first out. I believe it's been discontinued. I've seen some online but they're expensive.
Would be great to make a 3D printed panel for your sound board to look more like the bridge console. Really nice job! I had the original and built that, but don't have it anymore. I launched Spock in a model rocket and he was lost... I should look for the new kit. The wild walls would be cool and fun to do with a film crew.
*bows* I bow to the Master!
I built this kit a long time ago and had the panels wild like the tv show. Put an expensive video camera for close ups. It gathers dust and I never took care of it.
I built the original version years ago. I still have sort of. I took a picture it at eye level so it looks like the camera view from the tv show. I even did an enlargement of it. The fate of the model itself was sad. It was put on loan to a comic shop in london ontario. The building caught fire so all things including the model of mine was gone. But i have the poster sized picture of it that is a good thing.
that is so cool !
Totally awesome
I cannot build models to save my life lol. But I’d still love this bridge.
Very nice 1
Your sounding better, hope your feeling better. Colds/Flu suck.

It was a bad one but feeling much better. Happy Holidays.
I built one of these back around 2000, it gathered dust alright! Really difficult to clean. Mine was the re-issue from the 90's
To think they make such small LED screens now. You could get a Raspberry pie and some small screens and animate the screens now. Of course for the original series it wouldn't look right since they were never animated on the original show. However a Refit Enterprise Bridge would look great with all the proper screen animations going on.
When I was a kid, I had that 1974 kit. Of course I was a kid and totally botched it putting it together. I wish I still had it. :/ EDIT: I just looked it up and the original box had other kits you could buy and I had almost all of them! I had the Enterprise, Klingon cruiser, Romulan "space vessel", the Galileo, the "Exploration Set" (phaser, tri-corder, and communicator), and I _think_ I might have had the large Spock fighting the 3-headed snake/monster thing. Man... I wish I had them today! :(

Same here, had all of those...my mom was an artist and came up with a way to paint the Enterprise nacelles to look authentic. She's gone now, but the time we spent back then in the 70s building those models is priceless. God bless.
They reissued the Bridge Set kit this year. I don't believe they've added anything to it. They updated the box art with series photo stills and a general art redesign to make it look vintage. The newer edition Boyd showed the box from pretty much covers everything people wanted added to the kit or fixed. They really did need to add the rest of the crew and a few more chairs to the bridge set, for sure. *** I'm amazed how well Matt Jefferies designs have held up. I have more appreciation for the original Enterprise as time goes on. Sure, they changed the interface of the control panels but the bridge layout was just about perfect.
Don't you sleep Mr Boyd? Merry Christmas to you sir 😀
I always wanted one but I was heading off to college in '74 and not building models at that point.
I remember back in the day building that kit was so cheesed of with the lack of characters so I bought a second kit and scratch built the extra characters, added Chekov, McCoy, Uhura and Scottie.
Nice Model.-
Back in the 60s there was a TV camera that came IRC as part of a drag race track diorama kit. It was 1/25th scale though, and the Bridge seems to be maybe 1/35th? Ambitious plan sir, I hope you can get it done and show off for us. I won't be jealous, I promise.

This kit didn't have a scale stated on the box or instructions at first, but is considered to be 1/32nd scale now.
Cool!
Nice blast from the past. Just remember that if you add a film crew, the show was shot in 35mm film and not in video. Also nothing would say NBC on the equipment as it was a Desilu/Paramount product and was shot on their lot and not on an NBC facility. :-)
@TrekWorks

Your probably right but putting the old peacock logo on the camera would be a tip of the hat to NBC who took the chance of putting the show on the air back then when nobody else would.
Very, very 👌
I had a bridge kit back in the early 80s that only had three characters. I think it was the last model I built before I was “too old” for models. I don’t remember if it was AMT.
The transporter room and shuttlebay .
Yeah, Uhura’s figure WAS the best of the bridge crew... 😎
The kit with the fiber optics and the Romulan/Klingon ships is the one based on the episode "The Enterprise Incident".

thank you i am on the preorder for the rebut round 2 of this model. gives me ideas.i can not find the sound chip or the mini view screens
I would like to see the wiring? Nice job look's great
Hey Boyd. What Ever Became of The De Boers Reliant you were Building back in 2012? Do you have any Video Footage of it Complete? Thanks.
Hi Boyd, live this model. Since you have all the characters, have you ever thought of modifying an extra one to stand by the doors like a security officer like was often seen on the show.
@TrekWorks
3 жыл бұрын
Might do that one day.
Wouldn't it be cool to have the exterior bridge dome that you could lift off to show the Command Bridge model inside?
I want one too. What year did the new version begin?
I like what you did with the lighting abs adding the new figures. But where’s Dr. McCoy? I don’t see him.
@adrianheeks

For some reason McCoy has been painted as Scotty. Scotty never stood like that.
Did they ever do the refit bridge? That would be epic

No and I wish they would've!
This is either creepy or cool cause I watched the video last week.
Just caught up with this video. A quick question: has the re-issued kit corrected the lack of profile on the Library Computer station? On the original model it is flat, but the actual one of the show has areas that are built up higher than the main panel. I have been thinking of scratch-building these areas myself on my old kit; it would be nice to think that minor fault has been corrected.

No, it's still the same as the original.

@@TrekWorks Oh well, I guess I will still have to re-profile mine when I get around to actually building it. Somebody did do a set of resin replacements for some of the kit bits, with extra detail, better chairs and more figures, but I haven't seen that set for a while.
I think starling electronics still do the sound board

Shouldn’t the floor be a dark grey?
It shows how low quality a lot of kits were back then. If it was made now, you'd have more of a likeness for the characters.
I hate to contradict you, but the original kit did not have Scotty it only came with three figures which were Kirk Spock and Sulu.
