    tip : use a germ sensor to release the gas when germ is lower than 10k .Since a biobot builder can only take at max 10k of germ, you will save a lot of power.

    I personally try and get this set up as soon as I have a relatively steady supply of steel. Since I usually have my dupes on offset schedules, having a constant workforce helps to offset any downtime that scheduling creates. I also think it’s neat that it requires a high tier doctor skill- as most of the time the goal is to not even need one in the first place. So having an extra use for a Dupe with a high doctoring skill is a nice direction for diversification- even if it’s a bit arbitrary.

    They are very useful but Klei needs to add door permissions for them. I had a seed of unusual oil that had a gap opening to the magma biome, and had a bunch of queued build commands for when I was ready to manage the heat, but these guys ran straight in and started working on the stuff, even though it was priority 1 and I had other things they could have done (like sweep orders) at a much higher priority. I had a series of doors into the oil biome but had to manually lock them instead of use perms because of this, and it was after they release a ton of sour gas at 700 C into the bottom of my base, which was a mess and took ages to clear up.

    Yes, I agree that the firepole/transit tube trick is a bit fiddly and it would be simple to have them on a door permission.

    Technically you don’t need to run the pumps all the time: you can use a germ sensor (wow a use for germ sensor) to re-pipe the air from the output back into the input until it’s below 10000 germs to save power. This isn’t super useful obviously since it’s only saving a bit of power *but* it’s more fun this way

    So it's a tradeoff of 480W and a few cycles of setup for 6 extra sets of hands around the base. No oxygen, no food, and immune to extreme temps and disease. Pretty good deal IMO, even if they're mostly just good for digging and delivering.

  • @sirdart6915
    @sirdart6915Ай бұрын

    Also note here you only need to supply the zombie spore germs and the amount of Carbon dioxide doesn’t matter. So if you let the zombie spores build up in the CO2, you can use a single mini pump to supply it and save some power.

  • @GCFungus

    @GCFungus

    Ай бұрын

    Mini pumps are leas efficient than the normal pumps though, in terms of watts per gram pumped. You'd be better of using a normal one and throttling it.

    @@GCFungus The Zombie spores will keep multiplying in the room. Remember, this isn't the amount of CO2 you push through the pipes, it is the amount of spores. The Spores will keep building up making it far more efficient in the end.

    imo, not too bad, but also 300KG of steel isn't cheap, especially at the point you're going to be using these, at early midgame. The high temperature operations are useful, obviously, but I'm not seeing an abundance of uses for going into lava. Flipped asteroid i guess works? SO! asteroids are so much smaller than basegame ones that I don't see the need for the extra digging or building labour.

    On the contraty the main challange in SO is setting up oxygen and food on differrent planets. The planet with biobots can run easily with 1-2 dupes - and its a minor inconvenience to feed and oxygenate them, while biobots help out with strip mining and setting up scaffolding all for the investment of 1500kg steel and some seeds.

    In the Spaced Out DLC, Rovers are functionally equivalent to Biobots, except they don't require any Zombie Spores, there's no upper limit on how many can be produced, and you can use any metal Ore as well as Steel, Niobium, or Thermium. A Rover has the same lifespan as a Biobot, and can perform the same tasks with the same speed and limitations. However, they are much easier to produce. You CAN launch rovers on your home-planetoid, simply by launching a rocket into orbit, dropping the Rover and then landing the rocket again, at which point it can be "reloaded" with another rover (and any necessary fuel) to go again. The only downside is that they can't be automated. Dropping a rover must be done manually, and they do not automatically generate deconstruct orders when they run out of power.

    Biobots are an entire fleet of unpaid dupes. I heavily recommend them since they pretty much double your workforce. The tricky part is rushing atmo suits and digging the sporechids on the oil biome

    2:30 Very handy to do simple modification in a nuclear plant or in a shine bug reactor, or any radioactive environnement like doing the ladders and shielding on space biome. Door with "deny all permission" is a good way to ensure only bots will do the jobs. You can add a switch to lock them up (That's more relevant when spamming rovers and they start taking each other next tasks and run around the map). It's great for work far away from the base, as they don't have to commute back and forth to the base every cycle. 2:50 They can hop on the platform on the top of a firepole. Be careful about the door permission, bots might loops at a dispenser closet (the dispenser near a denied door that prevent storing loops) or ... supply a nuclear reactor when you are not looking ...

    The building eats all of your steel so that you can't use it on anything else. There's a mod that fixes this issue, but before finding that mod, I had over 3t of steel waiting for use and then suddenly, it was gone because someone picked it up and deposited it into the biobot builder when it already had enough steel for 10 biobots! And, as covered in this video, you can only have a maximum of 6 of them at a time!... And all 6 of mine were active and running around, so all of my steel was just being wasted and there was no way to get it back.

    My experience so far is they take all the tedious stuff like tidying or digging out the whole biome, which leaves dupes to do the stuff only dupes can do, so even if they complete tasks slower than dupes, it still drastically increases the available "man hours" to get stuff done. (Added benefit: no food or toilet (or associated infrastructure), and no sleep/break)
