    Hi everyone! Please be aware that with the Quality of Life June 2023 Update that there are now significant changes to the scanner mechanics. You can find the link to the changes here: forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/148401-game-update-561558/ I hope to be able to update this guide in future.

    Thanks for the update, I think one of the main changes is that they send a red signal now once covered which means the doors start opening again! Buffer gates would work but are limited to only 200s so trying to find a way around that.

    What might be worth mentioning is that in order to achieve maximum network quality all you need is 6 scanners regardless of what they are scanning for. If you have 6 scanners total but 5 of them are configured to scan for returning rockets (same or different ones, doesn't matter) the overall network quality for the one scanner looking out for meteor showers is at 100% still.

    One obvious improvement: When a rocket is returning during a meteor shower, you only need to open the doors above the rocket silo. The rest of the doors can stay shut to protect your buildings.

    Regular tiles can shield you base if you have multiple layers and allow regolith to pile up above, though this means you can't use the space above, and it isn't 100% reliable. While like he said a full box of bunker tiles is not necessary, you can also have the top be steel bunker and the sides be regular tiles, which will stop the occasional meteor.

  • @GCFungus

    @GCFungus

    That's a fair point, but as you say it's a bit unreliable so not the best to recommend. Steel is generally not too difficult to get once you know how, so definitely easier to set it up robustly in one go.

    ...moreover, you dont have to make sides, (out of tiles), in a continuous fashion. You can leave every other tile empty, it will still block meteors, which can happen to be falling on those vertical side walls. Like this: xoxoxoxoxo but vertical. This also applies to any scaffolding out of ladders, you can leave half of them not built. Before 2023 I remember dupes walked the same speed on intermittent vertical ladders, but now they perform bend down animation on each empty tile.

    I only use 1 Scanner, behind window tiles, 9% Scan Quality. Bunker Doors are fully closed around 10 seconds before the meteor shower. Either the devs made some changes, or it depends on different factors, like the position of the scanner on the map, or the planetoid you're working with.

    I did this without timer sensor, damn this was a pain to make the circuit > Final result was, statring from space scanner: - not gate -> Buffer gate [nb 1] 46 seconds -> Filter gate [nb 1] 46 seconds -> Filter gate [nb 2] 2 seconds -> Filter gate [nb 3] 2 seconds -> Filter gate [nb 4] 2 seconds -> Buffer gate [nb 2] 2 second. And from the not gate, direct to bunker door From Filter Gate [nb 1] -> And gate -> Top door From filter Gate [nb 2] -> XOR Gate -> And gate (the and gate mentioned above) From buffer gate [nb 2] -> Bottom door I need to add automation to open all doors after finish, because the scanner sends green when doors are closed even thos there is no meteorite

    Normally put my doors/bunker tiles right next to the area where you can not build. Due to Regolith can be I think 5 tiles above that still. Did not know about the seasons which is interesting, but did only one base game where I was doing rockets mostly due to I started playing slightly before Spaced Out came out.

  • @GCFungus

    @GCFungus

    I think they changed it a while ago, but this is now as high as you can build, and the regolith seems to only go 2 tiles high from there.

    Do you know when do meteors start falling? I have been playing spaced out so no need to deal with them. But I'm going to do a vanilla playthrough soon and I want to avoid them as long as I can.

  • @GCFungus

    @GCFungus

    Жыл бұрын

    I must admit that I don't know exactly, but as per the seasons I showed in the video all the 'no meteor' seasons only last 4 cycles. Therefore the latest you could get a shower is cycle 5 (assuming the counter still runs before you encounter the space biome, which may not be true). Either way it will be fairly soon and random, so you can't really plan for any specific timing, you just have to use the scanners.

    Why sometimes there is "space sand in drop item state" falling on glass blocks? Meteorites sometimes "knock up" some space sand? How to avoid it? (I'm using the 6:30 method)🤔

    When using the "chewing" method, do you get 100% of the regolith and metals? Or is some fraction deleted?

  • @GCFungus

    @GCFungus

    Жыл бұрын

    I had thought it was all turned into debris, but I tested (and as shown in the video) and it seems that all the falling regolith just gets deleted. Regolith debris created by meteors hitting regolith & metal debris will simply fall through. It seems if you are looking to recover the regolith then the robo-miners are the way to go.

    Would it be possible to avoid having to use space scanners by setting up cycle timers? That way you could fix the bunker doors to open only during the off season? I'm having trouble understanding how to get so much (automining/door crushing systems, space scanners, rocket spots, and a telescope) all under bunker doors, which take a lot of power when used over a large area...

  • @GCFungus

    @GCFungus

    Жыл бұрын

    Maybe, but the showers are of different lengths and I wouldn't advise it. The door crushers are unpowered so you only need to power the bunker doors in that set-up. If you only need space for one or two rockets, then two or three bunker doors is all you'll need, so it won't take that much power.

    What material are the mechanized airlocks made out of? Does iron suffice or since automation wires have to be made out of steel to avoid melting from rockets the mechanized airlocks also have to be made from steel.

  • @GCFungus

    @GCFungus

    Жыл бұрын

    For the meteors, any metal ore will be fine as they aren't hot enough to melt them. The rocket exhaust temps depend on the rocket engine used. Most won't cause issues, but hydrogen engines are very hot and will probably need steel or similar. The radbolt engine is even hotter, so you basically need tungsten to not melt on a rocket launch path.

    At 5:30 you mentioned that joining them together is needed but I don't quite undestand why. If the scanners turn on somewhere between lets say 66s and 200s and you join the 2 scanners together all you achieve is that the doors close at the earliest possible time because the earliest green signal would trigger closing the doors. I imagine that closing the doors as early as possible would be undesired as it takes away time for solar panels to create energy (and also stop telescope research and so on) I just started playing ONI again and maybe I am confusing something here but to achieve maximum open time with less than 6 scanners I think it would be best to wire all your 2-5 scanners through AND-gates so the doors close when even the last scanner detects incoming meteorites (at at least the minimum time defined by the network quality)

  • @GCFungus

    @GCFungus

    Жыл бұрын

    You've slightly misunderstood how the space scanner works. The network strength dictates when minimum earliest time than the FIRST scanner to detect will go green, but all the scanners will turn green at different random times. By joining them all together, they are effectively OR'd together so you are always guaranteed to get the green signal on the first detection, which will be above the minimum time. If you AND them, then you basically get the last scanner's detection, which can be later than the minimum time. I suppose the most efficient way would be to have 100% network strength and then use a filter/buffer to delay the signal by 160 seconds as it will be very repeatable.

    Hi, wondering if anyone tried the meteor blaster, and if its more efficient than setting up bunkers? Is it a viable alternative to bunker for rocket launch area in the base game?

  • @GCFungus

    @GCFungus

    Жыл бұрын

    There are pros and cons to both. If you use the meteor blaster you lose the material the meteor brings. If you're using them just for launch areas, then I don't see the problem with that and you can collect the material elsewhere. That is how I would use them personally. Of course you can still use bunker doors as I showed in the video and deal with the regolith either with door crushers or robo miners.

    Yes, to be honest this Tutorial Bite needs the most rework. The addition of the meteors that form solid tiles breaks the crusher design as they don't fall, so I think meteor blasting of robomining is the way to go.

    What about collecting the metals of the rain? I don't have many metal sources in my map so I dig/collect metals after a shower and drop them into a cooling loop, then use it when cooled enough. But this is basically midgame manual labor, need some automation for it.

    Tony advanced has a good tutorial on a setup to harvest the regolith and the metal from meteors. Check out his channel for that stuff. It's outdated but his builds still work.

  • @GCFungus

    @GCFungus

    In either of the designs I showed, it would fall as debris so can be manually collected. For automated collection that would be quite tricky, as any use of autosweepers or conveyor loaders would need cooling in the vacuum. I believe this is possible, probably with the odd bit of drywall and petroleum, then strategically placing the autosweepers so they can reach everything.

  • @ShadoryKaine

    @ShadoryKaine

    there's a design to setup auto sweepers into dispensers and they'll pass down the line leftwards or rightwards, with cooling coming from the regolith itself, I think its possible if u use Steel sweepers? I don't rmb how hot the regolith n metals comes down in however, maybe u need thermium haha

    Sorry, a bit late to the party and I'm also a little confused. Surely (I bet I'm wrong) but if you close the bunker doors dues to meteor shower the Solar panels will shut down and you'll have no power to then open them again...

  • @GCFungus

    @GCFungus

    Жыл бұрын

    You are correct that the solar panels will stop working when the bunker doors close. At that point you will have to rely on stored energy from batteries, or other power generators to keep the power up to open them. But even if the doors are unpowered, they will still open but it will take much longer at 400s.
