Hi everyone, quick update as per the October 2023 Quality of Life Update, Gassy Moos can now be wrangled by dupes.

Please note that, in the latest Public Testing Update, Moos can be wrangled alongside slicksters, pufts, and shinebugs, and that Gas Grass now has access to the Exuberant Mutation, removing the light requirement and making it grow 400% faster, in exchange for 50% more dirt and chlorine.

Isn't it 400% faster like other exuberant plants? Normally exuberant can get wild plants to produce like tame ones.

Yes, I did a mistake, it is a 75% reduction in the growth cycle, which is equal to a 400% growth speed bonus

So wild plant the exuberant gas grass which is basically the same as planted gas grass but without the requirement of fertiliser or light

Somehow I never realized that gases in game absorb sunlight and can make less light get through. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone even mention it until now. This game has the appearance of a light, easier game, but is actually very layered and dense.

The problem is that so much of this - especially the liquid chlorine - is so late game that you've already overcome every problem it could have helped. I get more brackeen with less work out of my wheat and pepper farms, enough to keep my Giant Tube Elevator well waxed and flowing smoothly, and usually between 1.5 - 2 full fridges, even accounting for what I shoot off to the resin-tree. This honestly feels more like an "I'm sufficiently built up than I EVEN CAN do this" flex, more than any positive use.

such balance is issue not only in oni, in dst is also massive problem. add to it fact recent updates in dst are also questionable quality. honestly i feel like klei is going downhill in general

With a little bit of gold input and a dirt source this is a new way to generate water from thin air. Not necessarily needed everywhere but on some outer asteroids it might be an option.

Liquid chlorine is not that difficult. Just send chlorine gas into the Ice Biome. XD

I’m sorry but are you sending brackeen to your resin tree, and if so why? Or what are you sending to the tree? Also I agree this game has a weird approach to things. It just feels patchwork goals you can tackle. But realistically why even have the resin tree produce resin? I’ve done it all at that point. All you need is thermium and super coolant. If you need to deal with temperatures just use the dozen other methods that don’t require insulation material 😅 Just build that reactor in a rocket and you win the game

@@michaelsotomayor5001 OH no, I meant even accounting for the FOOD I shoot to the tree, I typically have over 1 full fridge full. AFAIK, the tree don't care about anything bracky.

I like how the Dupe takes off their atmo suit helmet when milking a Gassy Moo.

That acumoolation song and animation was sooo cute. The resulting fart crash from the new arrival had the wife and I crying from laughter. Well done Klei.

Producing 20 kg Brackene from the following plants requires... Nosh Beans: 11.55 kg water (from domestic Arbor Trees) Sleet Wheat Grain: 55 kg water Pincha Peppernut: 227 kg water . The Gassy Moo converts 1 kg chlorine into 50 kg Brackene per cycle. . In addition, the Gassy Moo only needs to be milked every 4 cycles. Gassy Moos are a far more resource & dupe operation efficient source of Brackene over the Plant Pulverizer.

the moo can also be used to make water for oxygen, since brackene can be boiled into brine, effectively turning a chlorine vent into an oxygen source. also, i would not regard them as hard to ranch as voles, since voles require enormous feeding demands, and have the 2% chance to spawn the delectavoles, meaning they will die off over time. i believe this would be more stable of a bbq source over time.

I was very excited about getting natural gas from the alternative source. Not for power, but for Gas Range, cause we can't get the electric varient for high-quality food for some reason. Until I realized that this way consumes from 13 to 30 Kw of power, dirt, chlorine, 120 cycles of labor, and access to planetoid 50000 km away (base game). WHYYYY???

At this point just use the fertilizer machine, it produces enough natural gas for the gas range, if not just make more of them, and it is cheaper at that point. The gassy moo farm is way too complicated, resource expensive, and everything it does, another machine can do better (nat gas = fertilizer, brackine = pincha peppernut)

@jonumine6250 Do you mean Fertilizer Synthesizer? It's 10 g/s of natural gas. You need 10 of these constantly running to sustain one gas range. With conveyor rails and autosweepers. Not to mention dreco + pip ranches and renewable polluted water source. And the constant use of the fertilizer. XD

Yes, both give +5 happiness so you can use that to offset the overcrowding penalty and squeeze and extra 5 critters into a normal sized ranch.

Honestly aside from the brackene I'm not sure how useful they are and the expense of both finding a chlorine source and then cooling it to a liquid seems excessive. I'm barely positive with my chlorine for bleach stone. Where the heck am I gonna find enough for gas grass in the base game?

Don't we also need to cool down the sunlaps? They are heating up like crazy.

Yes, you can move them around with rocket interiors (or in the new Quality of Life patch now in testing, a live critter cargo bay).

Do they produce natty gas if they aren't fed? Can they be starvation ranched if they're grooomed?

No, they have to be fed to make the natural gas unfortunately.

@@GCFungus Thanks. They're still very fiddly, with the requirement for liquid chlorine. That means cooling, an insulated ranch, and a source of chlorine. Plastium and no ranching ranches are pretty good I guess.

So how many critters can I have in one ranch just on milk (no grooming station)? 8?

The critter fountain can essentially replace the grooming station, so you would get the same number as you would with that. This is 8 critters for most critters, but there are exceptions - I cover the stable limit in each critter video and also in the summary table in the main Critters Tutorial Bite

Sun lamps couldn't penetrate mesh tiles when I tried it. So in the base game, they can go through window tiles?

Yes I found that too - sunlight goes through both but you have to use window tiles for the lamps. But the small reduction doesn't make a difference here anyway.

Not currently, but it is possible in the new Quality of Life patch that is in beta right now.
