Oxford Canal: Lower Heyford to Upper Heyford Common - A Time-lapse Narrowboat Journey.

Oxford Canal: Lower Heyford to Upper Heyford, then on to Heyford Common lock - A Time-lapse Narrowboat Journey. 11th March 2018.
Most of my time-lapse videos now use a different frame rate. They will play slower, smoother, and longer. The new frame rate is variable, depending on lighting conditions, between 3 and 5 frames per second. Older time-lapse videos were recorded at one frame per second.
If you still find that they play too fast for your liking, you can slow them down further. Click the settings (gear) icon on the KZread player and select the playback speed you want. Remember to change it back to normal when you have finished as it also slows down the audio!

I realised that I missed this one. I used to fly around there when my aircraft was based at Blackbushe.

There are always lots of small, and not so small aircraft round this way. Close to Oxford airport. It can be quite noisy at times.

Once again very enjoyable. Pleasant looking and quiet countryside. My mind was 'ticking' over as you going through the lochs as to the volume of water that each passage through discharges, just as well the UK is known for it's rainfall. 😉

Lots of water is the short answer, though it would be fairly easy to calculate by measuring a lock.

Very nice as usual. I like your commentary on your videos and the rear view camera is interesting too, good to see front and back views and what's going on.

Very nice journey. I have watched many narrowboat youtubers and I am getting the understanding that narrowboating in the nicer weather months the canals are not the calm and idyllic place of a gongoozlers imagination, at least this gongoozler. Have you found that the narrowboat life is becoming too popular, too many boats?

I've been afloat for a very long time, and there has been a large increase in boat numbers. In the really busy times I will usually move in the evening or very early morning, when it is much quieter.

Excellent video as usual quality looked better? Have you changed your camera settings?, loved your something different music and the footage of you playing it. By the way took your advice and purchased same camera as you use and would like to know your preferred settings and to what size data/ memory card your trips use on these settings?, I would be grateful if you could share your knowledge. Thank you for posting the Videos I always look forward to watching them as they are very informative and will be most useful when I travel in the non to distant future ( I hope) on the Oxford.

For a moment there I thought the boat was going off without you until I realised it was just the front and rear cameras slightly out of sync! Loved the guitar interlude. You play very well :) Can you remind me Phil, how long is your boat? And, how would you have coped going up locks before it became common for the rubbing strip on the upper gate? I always remember being told about the two dangers in locks...the cill going down and the getting the bow caught under a front door member going up!

Thanks Ronnie. It's very hard to perfectly synchronise the two cameras because they are both using a variable capture rate. I've always done locks the same way, I don't ever remember having problems like that? I do always check though, complacency is a killer.

The plate now they put on the top gates generally removes the chance of getting the bow stuck under a cross member, but I remember it being a possible issue when I first starting boating.

There is one lock on the Oxford that's a bit iffy. Not sure which one it was, perhaps Kings Sutton or Grants lock? My front fender tried to go under that plate. It was ok. I'll point it out when I get around to doing that video.

Lovely video, thanks. When travelling alone do you find it easier to pull your boat through the lock rather than to keep jumping on and off?

Yes, on my more recent trips (not published yet) I point the rear view camera forwards to show me jumping off and using ropes etc...

Can you tell me what is the speed ratio of the time lapse. It's a nice speed which keeps much of the detail of the video. Benny Hill no where to be seen.

The capture rate is variable, depending on lighting conditions, 2-5 fps. The video file is then output at 15fps.

The Manor is at Shipton on Cherwell and was Richard Bransons Virgin recording studio until the early 90's. It's where Mike Oldfield recorded "Tubular Bells".
