The River Cherwell & Oxford Canal in Flood (26/11/2012)

This video compilation was filmed near Shipton Weir Lock on the Oxford canal, Oxfordshire. On one side of the lock is the river Cherwell which was in full flood. The river was flowing around the lock and into the canal and surrounding fields. I was temporarily stranded aboard my narrowboat, and could not move because the water levels were so high. Also, the flood gate was closed at Shipton on Cherwell, blocking the canal. 26th November 2012.

Nasty looking time! Glad I was not there. Thanks for recording it! I did not see any narrow boats, were they warned and went off somewhere that did not flood?

The mooring is not very easy around there so not popular with many boaters, and it was late November.

How does that bridge operate, if a canal boat person is on their own. Can the bridge be locked in the upright position & then the boat moved under it.

It can be very difficult on your own. You have to try and lift it from the non beam side, and keep it upright with a boat pole!
