    Love your property, beautiful hills and trees. I bought my 790 with a 419 loader and bucket in 2018 for 10k at auction. It had 270 hours, used for field mowing and kept in a barn for storage. I've since upgraded it with a three-point quick connect, and bought several attachments such as a field mower, box blade, quick attach 3 ft forks and 9" auger. I also have a weight box for the three-point with about 700 lb of ballast. These tractors are great for universal, lighter work. You have to be careful, they sit higher and can be tippy. They really can't pull stumps, or lift much over 600lbs on the FEL without shimming the hydraulics, and that's where a lot of people get into the danger zone of exceeding the limitations of a light tractor. The front axle, especially when in four-wheel drive can be fragile and you need to be careful with them, people have damaged the front planetary gears by putting too much stress on the front end especially in reverse. Do not run this tractor in four-wheel drive unless absolutely necessary. Mine also has some blow by and under stress the engine will burn a little bit of oil and you can smell it. The yanmar diesel engine, as you mentioned doesn't have emissions, however you definitely know it and if you're downwind of that exhaust it stinks pretty bad. The manual transmission requires patience, and you must push that clutch in and wait before you shift gears so you don't wind up banging them in. Overall this tractor has cleaned up several acres of property, hundreds of trees and mowed nasty terrain while I was trying to grade the property back to normal which saved wear and tear on my x570. I'm very lucky to have gotten this machine for the price that I did. She's sitting in the garage nice and clean and maintenanced for the winter, waiting for the spring.

    @clashavenfarms6714. Thats a nice 790. I have a 2001 790 4x4, but it has the model 70 loader, which isn't as powerful as the model 300 loader. Have you shimmed out the hydraulic relief valve yet? You can safely run it up to 2500psi and get more lift capacity, with the loader and the lift. JD actually sells the shim kit to do that. One side note, in case you're not aware, the black switch you pointed too under the seat is the operator presence switch, as you noted. You can pull the black knob up and that will allow you to operate a 3pt attachment while the operator is not present (sitting on the seat), such as a 3pt log splitter. Pretty cool feature. I have added a chain saw carrier, a chain bucket, a tool box with padded arm rest, and a canopy to mine. I also added the Pat's easy change and welded some hoks on top ofvthe bucket. Have had great service from my 790!!! Thanks for the video.

    @@wayneb3604 Sorry, but I don't have any knowledge on the interchangeability of the Model 70, 300, and 419 loaders. Maybe you could call a JD dealer and ask them?

    Great overview, I'm a rookie to all this, I'm currently looking at a 2003 790 4wd 595 hrs very clean looks new, with 70 Bucket, so looking at your bucket 300 and the hydraulic lines, so there obviously is a big difference in the bucket model?... can I only pick up a bucket of water with this tractor compared to yours, 😂 and are the hydraulic lines for other attachments like the grappler and forklift etc., one other thing are all 790's 30 hp because I've seen search info imply 27.5, thank you ...Rick

  • @clashavenfarms6714

    @clashavenfarms6714

    Rick, yes the 70 loader and 300 loader are different. I don't know the exact lift capacity but the 300 can lift a little more than the 70. The 300 is also a lot easier to remove than the 70. But a 2003 with 595hrs is a nice find! So if the price is right I would say go after it. You are correct on the horsepower search info. Horsepower is often rounded up when it comes to marketing by companies. Thanks for watching and commenting. Good luck on the hunt for a tractor!

    I have recently purchased a 2007 JD790 . Do you know how to increase the hydraulic pressure on bucket lift system. Ive heard it came from factory at 1950 - 2150 psi (will lift appox. 950 lbs at bucket ) but that the system has to be safe at 3000 psi ?!! I need the lift system to go from 925 lbs. to approximately 1200 lbs lift! I move large round bales of hay for wife's horses. I've watched that adjustment be done in videos for today's models 1025, 2025 etc. Do you or anyone you know know have any experience in these older ,790's in that regard. Thanks for any help ...

    It gives you the ability to run the 3-point control without being in the operators seat. For example, using a 3 point log splitter. I've never used it, but it's a very useful option depending on the types of attachments you use. Thanks for watching and commenting
