    At the beginning of your video you say the best bet is to take it to your John Deere service center. The last time I had my tractor in to the JD service center near me, I was quoted $650. When they called to tell me it was done and ready to pick up, the bill was $2,200. That was the last time I took in in for service. Since then, I have been watching a lot of these type of videos.

    Thanks for watching and your comment. I understand, I don’t take anything to the dealer and find I can fix most stuff myself. I share stuff on video to try to help other people like myself if I can. I was concerned with liability and might have overstated my suggestion to not take any of my video as advice or instruction… lol Have a great day and be safe!

    Thank you so much for posting this. You saved me a lot of time and money. I have a John Deere 3038e that did the same thing. It happened slowly over a few months and then quit working completely and left me stranded in the middle of the cow pasture. I came home and watched this video and went and bought a $17 ignition switch and replaced it and she fired right up! Thanks again!!!

    Thank you sooooo much. You saved me from a ton of frustration, lost time, and money. It wasn't the ignition on my tractor but the wire coming loose from the solenoid. Had you not been so through with your video, I would have thought it was the starter or ignition. And then i would have had to find a way to load it on my trailer... which would have be next to impossible with the loader on the ground and it not starting to raise the loader. And then I would have had to take it to the repair shop... which is far away, which would have cost me time and a lot of money for them to diagnose and fix the problem..... a lose wire. You have earn a Subscribe and my sincerest thanks.

    I just wanted to thank you for sharing about your 2025r not starting. You save me from breaking my dash by telling me how to depress the clip behind the starter switch although I broke one leg off of the switch. I rebuilt the switch and cleaned the insides and put it back together and it worked. Bought new switch from deere today at $71 a bit much I feel that is ok as these switches are not built that well. Again thanks for sharing.

    Excellent video, thank you for posting it, also, I noticed you have the old style air cleaner bracket that bolts to the valve cover, keep a very close eye on that, they’ve been known to break that cover and cause serious damage to the engine,John Deere has a upgrade that you can get so that doesn’t happen, for piece of mine, I replaced mine, thanks again for the video..

    Your other safety feature is the seat. There’s a switch under the seat. It’s a normally open, sit on the seat, it closes, completing the circuit - tractor starts. Thanks for this video, you might have saved me some time & money.

    Today, I couldn't get my 1025R to start. The lights on the dashboard come on but once I switch the key to the start position, I hear some clicking noises from the dashboard but nothing from the starter/engine. Maybe I'll try wiggling the key some, while in the start position. Great video!

  • @CopperBarnHomestead

    @CopperBarnHomestead

    Thanks for watching and your comment. Yes that sounds very familiar to how mine was. If wiggling the key works go ahead and order the ignition switch, my experience is that will only work for a little while before it doesn’t. Good luck and let us know how it works out for you. @@CopperBarnHomestead : Replaced the ignition switch but I get the same thing. I tested the batter with a multimeter and it shows 12.1 volts. After I let the glow plug do its thing, I switch to start and I get something like a "little machine gun" of ticking noises but nothing from the engine.

  • @CopperBarnHomestead

    @@machonsote918 sounds like your solenoid is trying to engage the starter possibly. Is the noise coming from down by the starter or up by the dash? The solenoid is mounted to the starter if I remember correctly. If the noise is up by the fuse box near the dash there is a starter relay. I switched that relay with another relay that was the same and it didn’t work but helped me diagnose. I guess the obvious is you tried adding a boost charger or jumping it some way? Sometimes a battery will show good voltage but still have no amps behind it. Sorry if that is too obvious and something you already ruled out, usually thats the first thing to try. Good luck and please let me know what you end up finding out.

    @@CopperBarnHomestead : Hey!.....I got it to start! The noise was NOT coming from down by the starter. I had already brushed off some build up on the red terminal of the battery with a wire brush and used a little hammer to hit the terminal to knock any remaining residue, but the "ticking" still continued. I pulled out and inspected each of the fuses and they were all good. As a last resort, I went ahead and stayed on the switch all the way to the right and ignored the "ticking" and VOILA!.....the engine turned over! I let it run for a few minutes, shut it off and started it again without "ticking" noises, just as normal.......................This is with the old ignition switch. Now I have a "spare" new ignition switch.

    My switch looked the same. All beat up after only 5 years, so when I bought a new one I didn't buy the john deere one. I think an issue with the jd switch is it allows dirt in even with the key in it.

Appreciate the advice, I’m definitely not a lawyer but have probably watched too many stories about people getting sued or arrested for something they said or did in a video. Definitely a balance and it’s always possible to go too far either way. I think it was also a bit of sarcasm to be honest. Thanks again, have a great day and be safe!
