I feel like Eric plays in different galaxy then me. When I play 10mins, I feel like I rush and then I loose 2 minutes on opponent. Eric calmly describes every move, sip tea and still has plenty of time
Your opening can’t get overpowered if you don’t have one 🧠
Eric: kudos to my opponent for surviving... opponent: wait for it😎

Eric moves his pieces all over the board and they magically all support each other. It is amazing to watch but impossible to replicate for me anyway.

Hi Eric, just wanna say that you are the best chess content creator out there and I hope to see you more and more and more. I love how you explain all the process and I would love to watch some 20/30 min guide on every opening with specific detail and your preparation. Happy to say that just by watching you I gain 200 points in blitz. (I'm still trash but enjoying the game thanks to you)
I like your word choice of "taunt" to describe when a piece (especially an undefended or valuable piece) provokes an enemy piece that would have easily captured it if only it wasn't pinned
@CommissionerSleer
2 ай бұрын
Maybe we can expand upon that with an absolute taunt and a relative taunt, depending on if tauntee is pinned or if taking the taunter is legal but a massive blunder (e.g. "on no my queen" at 30:00) respectively. The important criteria of course is that the taunter can't be threatening the tauntee... just taunting it. So maybe 30:00, the queen is technically threatening to take the pawn but not in practice so I think might qualify.

When you find checkmate in 1, look for checkmate in 0
Caro-Kann got totally CRUSHED. That two knights opening was brilliant and especially the trap you showed at the end. Thanks again Eric!
These games are so instructive, thanks!
Great, thanks Eric for the amazing episodes and educational content!
Eric, your lessons are amazing. I need to come back to each video and digest them.
Watched every episode as you release them. Really enjoying it!
Another amazing video! This series has really helped inspire me to expand my openings repertoire from always playing D4 to including E4 as well and I've watched you explain how to punish the caro bishop f5 move, but I don't think it really cemented until this video.. this really helps as I now play the two knights and I play carokann as black and I struggle against the two knights the most! It's so nice to learn why it's bad when playing as both black and white.
I love this series, Eric. I've found this speedrun series very helpful because of the opportunity to get a look into your mind. Keep it going!
I love the speed runs your always very instructive
“En Passant would not have been forced” LIES ERIC, LIES.
Every episode and counting! Love this series!
Best series on the tube!
Wow... this is certainly a video... super da machi !
On that second game, I think I've had this position sometimes with Black, and I think I never found Ng5 winning a piece, very instructive!! keep it up !!
Thank you!
Love this series. The difference with the level I am at is my opponents have the opening disaster, I get the amazing position and then lose it anyway.

Thanks for the bonus Andrea content!
Eric's depth of chess experience is astonishing.
Ouu a fresh Rosen vid. My lucky day! Keep up the great work, Eric!!
briefly considered flying to st louis. Thanks for all your grounded content Eric
It's never a good sign for your opponent when you say, "I've actually made an instructive video on this line"

im not from st-louis, but this man is one of the calmest and soothing teachers. Amazing work Eric
Another great video! Thanks
Amazing alliteration as always
I wish i could fly in this weekend. What a treat.
There was a funny line after Nb3 at 6:05 - Nc4 (oh no my bishop😯) if white takes the bishop on c5 there is Qd6 forking the knight and Qg3# then everything for white except for moving the queen away from the king is forced mate i think 🤔
Love you ...ahhh just missed your event....
Wow the last game was very instructive for me (1600)! Cheers Eric
Good luck to all your opponents on the 24th, I wish I could make it but I work weekend duty. I’m stationed at Scott AFB in Illinois! Thanks for the great content buddy
Its funny because the “themes’ for these episodes could be written before the episodes even come out:
17:05 If c6 Qb7 Nd7 Nxd7, black has a couple of difficult only moves to keep the advantage. The first one is Nf3+, where the knight can't be taken due to Qg5+. And after Kh1 there's Bd6, with ideas of Qh4 and Rd8 to win the knight.
Eric: I'm not doing anything special Also Eric on move 12: This is still theory
lol your clips you insert are great
Hi Eric, I clicked on this video because on the thumbnail, I saw the caro kann line I had recently prepared for a tournament game. You showed the line with Qh5... after the game, I just wanted to point out that Qf3 actually is better than Bc4 since after Qf3 Nf6 Qb3 you will win the b7 pawn, whilst after Bc4 e6 Qe2 is going to be able to hold onto all their pawns. Though it is to note that after Qf3 Nf6 Qb3 Nd5 Qxb7 Nb6 you need to know the cutting edge lines going something like a4/b4 to save your queen. So I agree that this Bc4 line is definetly good but if you want to play this in a serious situation you should definetly look at this Qb3 line. I dont want to be the smarthead here but I was just excited to finally add my wisdom 😂😂😂 Oh also I forgot if your opponent goes Qd5 instead of Nd5 you can give up your knight so you really really need to know the theory there
How do you always get games with a similar theme within the episode? LOL, great video again Eric!
94 game win streak wow. Unrelated, could you make a kings Indian defense tutorial video? I’d love to learn a bit about it and you make great videos
These are the best videos on KZread
12:07 Sas Mach is similar to Shah Mat, which means Check Mate
Re your playing all comers at the SL event... you are lucky I'm from New Zealand!
I wish I was living in St Louis! Maybe you will come to SLC sometime!
Too bad I don't still live in St Louis, would have loved to watch you play!
You made that look easy. Were those games easier than your last 6-9 games? It looked like it.
Legend
Hit up GM Varuzhan Akobian, he lectures at the St Louis Chess Club. I'd love to see that match!
Hey Eric, Can you do something similar in Las Vegas that you're doing on the 24th in St. Louis?
In the second game, which was a Bishop opening, 2. ... c6 is also a move
That was brutal
Hey Eric, I think it could be a nice addition to see you make some mistakes in the openings and come back from a worse position. Thanks!
Can you play a couple games with the french defense?
Its funny to hear Eric talk about all these gambits and positional ideas , tactics....meanwhile the opponent is thinking " I see a check so...check ! " or " I see an undefended pawn , ok Ill take it " Its like listening to a guy describe how his opponent could build a jet fighter and fire missles ....while the opponent is just looking around for a rock to throw.
I might be able to come play you! 😁 Is there a signup page or would I be able to just kinda show up and get in line?
@eric-rosen

Nice! The signup sheet is at the chess club, but I imagine you'll be able to show up and get a game.
8:56 Isn't there Qxf4 instead? I know there's still Qd3 but there's other choices like Bf5 attacking the queen and allowing the a rook to come out with tempo
19:43 One Piece, Smooth sailing huh
Wish I could have been at the meet up!
Come to Philadelphia!!
Hey Eric, can you suggest 3 openings for 1600. Thanks
No way the first guy is 1400. Even if he's playing this opening for the very first time
10:19 that timing 🤣🤣🤣
These always feel too short, spoiling us with quality content
could you make a video where you explain how to punish an undeveloped opponent?
The Caro-Kann seems to have a lot of traps. I usually go for Fantasy variation as white, but nowadays most players at my level don't play into it, probably suffered too many bad defeats. Opting for unusual moves that are hard for me to organize a game plan against, since they are many variations. I still however have more success against C-K than I used to when I first started playing online. The C-K, the Sicillian and the French used to give me trouble. I now have moderate success against Sicilian with an unusual but legit opening close to 50%-50% evaluation. The French is still trouble for me. I should learn some Greek Gifts Ideas...
“En passant is not forced. I just take their queen” lmao
Better move at 8:29 may have been Black Knight on F6, to E4, which threatens White Knight on H3 and the Rook on H1 (on the next move). Of course Eric wins anyway, so there’s that...
8:55 after nxf2 what about Qxf4 instead of taking back? seems like forced mate to me
@saphiren0050
2 ай бұрын
I think white can move their queen, which gives the king an escape. What would black's follow up be after a sequence like 1. Nxf2 Qxf4 2. Qd3?
I have been trying to figure out why I enjoy watching and listening to Eric but I cannot pinpoint the reason. His voice is boring and a bit monotone yet I love listening to him, the content itself is basically the same format usually and I do not get tired at all from it. So I am not exactly sure as to why I love his content and hope it will never change.
17:40 Isn't c5 after queen returning to b7 winning? Why you have to lose an exchange, when you can win a queen? Or am i missing something?
@lmabacus404
2 ай бұрын
c5 is playable and keeps the advantage, but white's queen goes back to b5, forcing black to block with the knight and gives white the initiative. Better are Bd6 and Nd7, though it can get quite sharp after that.
16:45 there's a funny line 8....c6, 9.Qb7 c5, 10.Qb5+ Nd7 and now the bishop on d5 is shielded off from the white queen 🙂
It would be nice if you could put the start and end Elo into the title so that we can find games and advice at different rating levels.
At 6:24, why is Qc7 better than Qd6?
At 18:15, why did you not take his queen with with the rook on e7?
first game is kinda like a reverse Vienna gambit.
In the second game at 13:35, wouldn't be Qg5 the stronger response? I think black threats are way stronger.
Hey Eric, are you playing Reykjavik Open this year?
@eric-rosen
2 ай бұрын
Unfortunately not. It’s a great tournament though!
8:57 taking the pawn with queen would be unstoppable mate no?
"En passant is not forced, I would have just taken the queen" XD XD
26:00 this simply threatening mate in 2
I don't think the guy in 2nd game blundered on last move. It was probably on purpose to see if you were cheating. Good thing he'll get the message and rating points back. I sometimes do that to see how fast opponent will take the free piece when I get thoughtfully dominated even though I thought I was playing well.
Oh!! Snap!! Rosen is taunting Hans Nieman! Calling out poor Hans to show up at the st louis club, since thats the only invitation hans will ever get there!
"Calculating nc6 nf3....maybe then I'll decide what to do" Yeah that is the way i calculate as well 😂
Why didn't you play a6 to kick out the queen and keep b7 defended at 17:35?
Hope to remember what I learn😅
absolutely brutal, I'd uninstall my web browser after losing those games
why is Qc7 a more obvious move than Qd6?
I don't have an emotional support dog, so this channel is my next best thing.
You would be wrong about scholar's mate at this level. This is my level mid 1300's. I actually play SM as white. I think it's a legit opening. I rarely have anybody fall for it on move 4 thought sometimes win by move 8 - 12. But really I play it because I know it so well and have my best winning % with it, even if no quick wins.
8:57 missed Qxf7
Don't let Kramnik see that streak.
What time at stlchessclub?

Hey Eric, can we see a Sicilian Dragon from the black side?
Why didn't you consider a7 at 17:36?
Almost like a Vienna gambit from black in that first game
I would come, but I have to study for the Bar Exam which is on Tuesday. Say hi to Julian, Caleb, John, and Jacob for me tho (also Carlos if you know who that is)
