Eric, this speedrun series has helped my chess more than anything else. It really helped me to hear you walk through your thought process when you were playing against lower elo opponents, because you taught me that I don't have to waste time looking for crazy tricky ideas at that level. I could just play solidly and logically, and come out ahead. You literally raised my elo by ~200 points, so thanks for that.

In the first game, Eric says “do I play Italian or the Ponziani? Well, my opponent has piano in his name…” and I think to myself “oh so of course he’ll play the Giuoco Piano” and then Eric is like “let’s play the Ponziani, it’s probably an anagram of piano in there”

Hey Eric, I've watched every single speedrun video (and every single main channel video and most of the alt channels'...) Your content is such a good way to learn and relax. Also, better help is known for being a pretty scummy company, their promises of a therapist you can "text anytime" are completely blown out of proportion, they bill patients heavily and if they mischarge you (which they have people I know) it's quite difficult to get your money back (something that's especially difficult for their clientele who is already struggling). Therapy is an amazing resource for many people but better help abuses that to make a quick buck with "professionals" that don't know what they're doing and billing that wants to take as much money out of the pocket of the vulnerable as possible

Hikaru the madman played it in classical games back in the day. There's also one GM who wrote whole book about it and says it's a good opening, Bernard Parham.

Great episode as always.. So informative. One of the great parts of the speedrun is that you play the same openings and defences as people typical of that rating level versus springing ideas that nobody that level will typically play. That's I think one of the things that makes this so accessible for people to learn from. Thankyou!

I think what makes this series great is that he DOESN’T try pretend to play like a person at that rating level. Solid, principled chess, but no mercy either, showing us all the most principled and effective moves in any given situation, which really shows what to do and what not to do. He doesn’t shy away from springing a deadly trap when an opponent leaves an opening. It isn’t instructive when a chess youtuber says “this leaves them open to x, but someone at 1300 wouldn’t know that, so I’ll play the most common response at this level…”. Those are a dime a dozen on YT, but that doesn’t help us. Showing us the best moves, principles, tactics, strategies for the position are what helps us all get better.

@@MrOffTrail I'd say he mostly plays the opening moves similar to people at that level, but not always; hardly anyone plays delayed Alapins against Sicilians or Steinitz against Ruys, for instance. But after the opening, he just plays what he thinks is the best move, regardless of how intricate the calculations get. “this leaves them open to x, but someone at 1300 wouldn’t know that, so I’ll play the most common response at this level…” I haven't checked out that many Chess KZreadrs, but there are actually people who do that? That seems extremely handicapping and tiresome. Like what if blundering is literally the most common response in a position? How do you even win a game, just play "common" moves without blundering?

So happy game #100 was a Ponziani! It has become my favorite opening after watching your videos, so for me it was a perfect 100 game special! Love these series!

24:41 F5 saves the knight. The only move to keep advantage is to take the knight with the rook and then you're just up a pawn in the best line at ~1.2

Good thing that your queen isn't restricted to moving like a king (for future people at the time this video was posted eric was playing drawback chess and had the drag drawback, meaning that the queen can only move one square and you lose if it is captured.

Good thing he could move to the 4 outside files (for future people, this video was posted as Eric was playing Drawback Chess and his opponent (me) could only play non-capture moves in the 4 center files) xD

30 episodes! I finally caught up. I have learned so much these last couple of weeks watching your climb. I never heard of overworked pieces before, or attracting a piece. I think just having names for these concepts makes these tactics so much easier to spot. Thank you!

I'm finally caught up on the series! Started watching on February 12th, when I was around 550 and, this week, I got into the 800's (currently winning and losing just enough to stay around 800). Even tho I played chess all my life, this year I fell in love again with the game and started playing every day, realizing that I'm so baaaaad hahaha. This series has been helping me a lot, the way you talk about your thoughts, calmly explaining every detail, possibility and move, is amazing, incredibly insightful and easy to follow. Even tho the games are getting on a level superior to mine, I feel like I'm still learning a lot. Thank you so much Eric! If possible, please come back to lower ratings one day, I feel that you have a lot more to teach us on those ratings (sorry for any typos, still working on my english) 😁😁

Best things of speed run is you explain purpose of your move as well as opponent each and every move. That's how a begginer should learn❤

It's SO satisfying when you play an opening and plays every move that they shouldn't. I'm not sure if the Ponziani has a more lethal sequence of moves than this one? I've been having a lot of fun playing it at my very low ELO, although a surprising amount of players go for d5 after I play c3.

Getting close to my peak rapid rating now and I must say I'm finding the opponents seem to lack theory but can be very resourceful at these levels

@@FluxXx7789 To the best of my knowledge no accredited US institution currently offers a Ph. D. in chess. However, I believe that oversight is on the verge of changing, as more and more people accept that the discipline and time of study necessary to become an internationally titled player is the equivalent of any Ph. D. in the humanities, or even the sciences (tho to be honest I know less about the requirement for an advanced degree in the sciences). However, the actual title of 'Doctor" is still controversial. For ex.: a lawyer with a Doctorate of Law after 3 years of study beyond the Bachelor's Degree is not entitled to be called 'Doctor', unless there is something extra, like a Master's Degree in a related field. It is my opinion that Eric is deserving of an honorary degree, based on the seriousness of his commitment and the time and energy spent gaining his current level.
