    I'm glad you guys started to talk about this segment 33:00. If you want to really get good at this, I highly recommend playing a fighting game like Smash. It is a core part of the game, called a 'read' where you see someones habit or previous choice and try to capitalize on it. And at a high level, you're reading a read, you're faking that you have a habit, etc.

    I love the Ahri piece guys. So well explained, great analogies. Really resonated with me as an ADC main, in fact one of my games last night really looked like this, except in bot!This will help me a bunch because I'll remember that analogy of turret plates being a luxury, and also the idea of two plays being committed on the map at once by one's team. I think back to school and I noticed that teachers who had funny or interesting ways of explaining lessons or material really imparted the learnings better. Now I'm not saying your show has to be stand up comedy, but this segment was amazing and I know it will help me improve. And also the review idea of thinking about what the enemy team wants to do. Really a lot in that segment.

Im about to make it to diamond for the first time and have been really struggling with the final 50 LP from emerald 1 and slowly have been losing motivation and getting mentally overwhelmed. This episode couldnt have come out at a better time thank you guys for being the best league coaches out there. PS: you guys should write a solo queue mentality book combining all the ideas you value from the other books you've read.

    It's been the same for me at the end of last season when I just couldn't get above p1 50 lp for some reason. You still got time though, I was p1 50 lp two days before the season ended, got carried by my team 3 games in a row while I played like shit but got into promos and decided it was better to stop playing for the day. Completely astro smurfed my promos the next day and got diamond, 2 hours before the season ended. You'll get there.

    Motivation is a false target. It is one component of the construct of adherence. Adherence is (in order chronologically and by importance) composed of inspiration, motivation, intention, discipline, habit, and passion. 1. See a high Elo player and want to be like them. 2. Hit Gold for the first time and crave more progress. 3. Decide that you are going to play a certain number of games and review them. 4. Do it even when you don’t want to. 5. The process becomes easier and requires less discipline over the weeks. 6. Enjoy the process and participate in a community.

    This resonated a lot with me. I never tryharded ranked games and would still have around 70% WR without reviews or 3 blocks, just spamming games to climb. This season I am 4 divisions below my peak and I can't seem to properly carry games anymore. I really got complacent, because the game gave me the feeling of improving enough and it caught up to me. There is a popular keynote speaker called Vinh from Australia. He said that you should never stop reading, because if you are not learning you are not putting new information into your brain, so talking to you becomes uninteresting. He noticed he got complacent when he didn't have new information to share when talking to someone, so he got back onto it. It's the same with League. Before I was able to talk to my friends about new Jungle paths or builds on Hecarim for example, but now it feels like I am mindlessly running around without a gameplan and don't know how to play my champ anymore, because the build has changed dramatically. It's probably time to sit down and play some normal games with the new builds to figure out how this all works or c ome up with my own style and build again.

    Im recently coming back to the podcast and this episode really caught my eye. 23:07 Curtis talks about how the process of complacency caught up to him its really funny because one of the last episodes i left off on there were talking about the Mits of their journey last year he was like Rank 8 and the players who would fight in mid-lane didn't really feel like a challenge and how he feels like he's just fixing the smallest of details. Just thought that was funny how it all comes full circle and how complacency really develops more in a winning environment then it does losing. Also curious if championships are won on minimalizing complacency (or satisfaction) within players, can a player's processes slow down depending on the environment around them, does complacency within the team for what's accomplished lead to a lesser result than expected without having grasped the concept of why they are able to come close to a trophy in the first place. and is that how 2nd places are made. like 2016 and 2017 worlds where T1 VS SG play each other twice in the finals each year , each winning once. T1 with the perspective of already winning a trophy and looking for another(in 2016), and SG looking to finally win the trophy after coming close last time. but notice the scoreline was 3-2 (in 2016) and 2017 its 3-0 (going in the favor of SG) could it be that players can overcome this hurdle ( of complacency) with the mentality of everything to prove nothing to lose style, idk. and could this concept effect how championship are won and how 2nd place finishes are made in gaming. i mean from what I've experienced in professional competition in esports it feels far more mental game then a physical game through most of my own process.

    The effect of music on a league player is fascinating. Eurodance rave music is extremely popular for LoL players for example because it's very upbeat and trancelike, allowing for a focused and confident mindset that suits aggression. The repetition and consistent beat is important. Personally, I like to listen to the in-game BGM, it gives me an extra sense of the time that has passed based on where we are in the track. It's different than looking at the in game clock, rather I can "feel" what time it is. It somehow adds to the intuition of time and pacing over a ~30 minute game.

    This is extremely funny because I had this happened until 2 days ago. Let me share a lil bit of my journey. I quit the game 4 years ago and came back at the start of the year, I swapped servers to NA since I moved back to NA (played on EUW since s4 till now). When I played on my main account I had about 30% wr getting blasted by my peers bc I clearly didn't have the lvl. So coming into NA, I wanted to actually improve since I would be on a lower ping (180 at the time, 35 rn). I started my journey kinda stuck in plat for a while, took about 1 month to get out of Diamond. Got master for the first time exactly 2 weeks ago, won about 20-25 lp per day on average until I rached 300 lp. 350 lp being the cut off to Grandmaster. After I reached let's say 200 lp, I was playing horribly, not winning lane, bad kdas, low aggression but I was still winning until I had a big loss streak 3 days ago. Played some normal games for the first time in that journey to calm my nerves and too chill. Then the very next day I felt like I had no drive to play ranked or to even improve. I realised that I became complacent bc I was so close to GM (I'm not attempting Chall this season it would take too much time). In the end, i still queued for soloQ with the notion that I will lose bc I'm playing like shit. After a game, I improved I kinda felt like it again. I wanted to actually play well, I want to play like there is a demon in me. That's my story, only watched 45s of the whole thing. Gonna finish it now might add stuff later. Edit: I just got Grandmaster the very next day

    I actually wrote a mail to you guys few months ago about music, asking whats ur take on it. I actually think it heavily depends. For example as a mid laner i can't imagine playing without sound againts Yone or Yasuo. I need to hear their Q's stacks. Another example is Pyke. I need to hear sounds because of his W. I need to hear it. Also i just turn music off during team fights. Basically in general i listen to music just between time windows in which is nothing happening and i'm rotating or farming and don't expect nothing happening. Also your podcast is motivation to me by itself 😊. Your words and statements always gives me energy to try harder.

    You think listening to music is bad… I listen to your podcast while playing league haha. Normally if I’m playing ranked I’ll at worst do music though instead of KZread, but I think it’s an adhd thing. I’ve watched KZread for as long as I could remember while playing games at the same time (I used to watch KZread videos while playing minecraft on the Xbox as kid and my parents were always like “why are you doing both, just do one”) league is one of the few games where I actually feel like my performance drops while listening to actual content instead of music, so I normally only watch KZread while playing norms, but I still listen to music. I also listen to music while doing math or programming homework though, so it could also be I just need some sort of background noise to help me tune out other things, idk. In fact the only thing I absolutely turn music off for is if I have to read any substantial amount. Weirdly enough, I cannot read at all while doing anything else. To the point that if I’m doing programming and have to read any more than like a sentence and actually absorb the information, I’ll pause the music, read it, then resume.

    I found Virgil’s take on ARAM being a waste of time to be contrary to my own experience. I’m silver as well, but Aram’s, I feel, helped me improve most facets of my gameplay, especially when it comes to threat assessment and learning what windows I can move forward and use my abilities safely. I also got better at spacing and helping my team reach their own conditions necessary to get their abilities off. I got better mechanically and actually learned how to use champs I’ve never played before, like Ryze, Karma, and seraphine

    i think this is an edge case most people who play aram just queue to have fun. you could play perfectly and try to learn something from an aram game but the reality is that almost no one in that game is taking it seriously. also it’s near-impossible to isolate any specific skill to improve at.

    I think the lower elo you are, the more useful ARAM can be as long as you're serious about trying to improve when playing it. I have seen people improve their mechanics and teamfight/champion matchup awareness from playing it. That said, I personally still believe norms or other modes serve the same needs better due to being able to isolate a specific champ to play, as well as the fact that mistakes are punished more harshly so the learning sticks better. It's not that ARAM is a waste of time, but it is a relatively worse use of time compared to other game modes. I think the fact that people don't take ARAM "seriously" isn't that big of an issue until you're pushing a higher elo because it's the same in norms, norm drafts, ranked flex, etc. there's a scale of how seriously people tend to take each mode, but that doesn't mean you can't take learnings away from those game modes. It just caps out the amount of learning you can get from said game modes.

    What does the abbreviation of lul-state stand for?

  • @VigilTheProtogen

    @VigilTheProtogen

    9 ай бұрын

    Lull state - a period of time where you have less fine-tuned actions to do with your character. Ex. you are waiting in fountain for your health to regenerate. During lull states, it is generally important to check on the overall state of the match: which teammates are strong/weak, when the next dragon/baron is available, etc.

  • @Freakattaker

    @Freakattaker

    9 ай бұрын

    A lull state is basically any point in the game where there's nothing that immediately needs your attention on a micro level. The most common one is being dead since there's literally no character to control. Other examples are when you're coming out of base, resetting, backing, walking to a skirmish, clearing camps as JG, etc. There are many ways to use a lull state, but good things to do are stuff like checking who's strong or weak on your team and the enemy team, where is everyone on the map, what's the next objective, etc. And then coming to a conclusion about how those pieces of information affect you and your team's decision making, and the game as a whole.

"I feel motivated" vs " I am disciplined" or " i discipline my self by working out 4 days a week"....in other words, one is a feeling that fades, the other is an action that has concrete outcomes. ask anyone who is in top shape, body builders etc. marathon runners, do you they feel motivated everyday? hell nah, but they go out and train anyways, its built into your core.
