On the topic of champion mastery i would like to say that champion guides made by curtis are an absolutely insane learning accelerators. I played over a hundred ahri games in diamond, i watch the guide, boom, im winning every lane XD when im learning akali or talon i legit have to watch 50 vods to learn the same prinicples curtis puts in a 1,5h video (:

Dear BBC, I would love to see a bigger revisit on Off-Meta. 31:25 Curtis mentioned playing Off-Meta being significantly lower in rank and practically holding yourself back (in terms of ranked achievement). However, not so long ago I remember him talking about a Zeri-Mid and that playing Off-Metta can give u an edge over the opponent (inflating ur rank), because they have no to very little reference on what you're tying to archive. This take resonated with me, because I changed from playing top multiple seasons (playing overall since season 1) to Taric Jungle only. In under a year I reached from gold to diamond as an Off meta onetick and I feel like that my skillset on this champ is hardly transferring to other champs or roles. For example, I tried Taric support since i main him, but I just get obliterated in lane. Great episode! Would love to hear more about Off-Meta, Cheers!

I think that's exactly the point though. You can only get so far with surprising your opponent and during that you also need to have some semblance of mastery. I think the Zyra mid example is really good to illustrate that (me being a Zyra support main in high-Diamond low Master). Nobody knows what Zyra does in mid cause nobody plays her there. But to be able to punish heavily with Zyra you have to play on the edge and farm really well which is incredibly difficult. As weird as you are for your opponent, if they just say "YOLO!" you are most likely either dead or so low you need to base because her kit, as it currently stands, is almost only fit for support. Your plants are sht and die to any ability or are AOE'd instantly. On support you can just waste mana and get poke gold through your item and they can't just kill your plants because you have the ADC together with you to punish and defend the plant, giving it that extra window. In mid if you defend your plant and they go for you, there is no body to punish them for it. It's an extremely squishy champion that requires a team to help zone off areas and prepare objectives. It's intense to squeeze advantages on mid. Every auto matters and you have no safety net. No mobility. Your spell casts lock you in place for a long time. And your damage is often unreliable. Unless you absolutely love the champ and the role and are willing to sacrifice everything to find those limits and play style to the minutest of details, you won't be able to abuse the unfamiliarity of the champion. Taric is useful no matter what and you can clear camps in the jungle well. Your ganks are decent and you are always useful in teamfights. Now, the bonus with Taric is that he is a rare pick and he can do what almost everyone else does. It's not the same as Zyra. You can survive much easier. You are not locked for CC. You can be self sufficient with gold. This is btw why Zyra jungle is almost always more successful than Zyra mid, because you have a much easier time getting gold and you are the one who dictates objective control (you can sit in dragon for a minute just placing seeds and if the team doesn't want to join you and the enemy collapses at the very least you can get a kill with that huge plant army. You cleared your camps so it's not like you wasted time vs gold. Weird picks need to have some clear self sufficiency. With Zyra mid you are not only setting yourself up for failure by having a suboptimal pick. You are also required to learn the game in a completely different way which translates to no other champion in League. Heimerdinger and Teemo can solo fight and 1 vs 2 with minimal setup. Zyra needs a team and to position immaculately (all while farming well to be of any value). So even in her sub genre of champions (controllers) you are different. As always "get into the details" is the most important thing. Some weird picks can get you far purely on the enemy not knowing what you do. But some can't because the enemy not knowing doesn't matter because they are so much easier to pilot and their regular patterns don't need to adapt to you. I hope this was understandable enough. Niche and weird picks can work but each one should be treated separately upon analysis. On some you will be elo inflated and on some you'll be stuck. But for every one of them there is a certain limit which depending on the player's dedication are impossible to overcome on that specific pick and requires a more traditional option. I had to spend so many hours analyzing every single click I made with Zyra to be able to win in high elo. I managed to get my deaths down to 3.1 on average from over 6 over last season and still most of my lost games are due to me mispositioning a single time in the game and dying. I can't wait for her to be reworked in some QoL way, because Zyra's current state might look good but it's so incredibly tough. Zyra players are also some of the highest average mastery mains because there is literally no other way to be good with her due to the amount of nuance and ease of punishment. But when you play well it feels so incredible. I would definitely not recommend her for any new player if they want to improve at the game.

Curtis mentions some of the champios that they are "Allowed" or recommended to play in his below gold program. You know which they are? I've tried many mid laners but I really enjoy playing tanks. I like Cho and Gragas mid. Perhaps they are kind of off-meta champs.

Something I'm surprised not to see mentioned with one-tricks is watching them for lane matchups (especially bad matchups). Watching Makkro and Kaatreus vods has been massively helpful for teaching me difficult tank matchups like Ornn into Camille and K'Sante into Gwen.

Volibear is a nice example for playstyles and item builds. In Jungle I always for Iceborn + Deadmens to force engages. In top lane it's similar but with some AP mixed in for wave clear. Sometimes I like to go Sunfire + Jaksho to become super tanky or Black Cleaver + Radiant Virtue when going for team. And of course the most common top lane build is Nashors + Riftmaker but then you should never look to group and always split push and duel since you're squishy.

Ludens is better for the assassin playstile. It deals more dmg as soon as youi have 2 or 3 items. At 1 item its even. After that the pen kicks in. BUT ludens deals way more dmg in a teamfight while you can only deal dmg 1 time with everfrost.

I find itemisation very hard to understand. I'm playing Ashe/Jinx currently, and I've had several conflicting opinions on what to build on both champs given to me by high elo players. From 'hurricane is the best' to 'hurricane is worthless' to 'build LDR 3rd' to 'don't build LDR until 4th item'... What is a Plat 2 dude to do!

Since, have climbed to Bronze 1, have started my KZread channel, and continue to play every day. I have 3 accounts. On 2 I hit platinum on less then 100 games. On my third account (my oldest account) I recently dropped from Gold to silver after about 700 games, while having lp gains of +14 -32 and I am not able to climb back up right now. Any opinions on that? How can a system work this bad? Im literally the same player on completely different elos. On the silver account I now have a good mix of games where I am completely smurfing and games where I can’t do shit because my team is literally clueless on how to even right click. So now I’m stuck in an elo where I don’t belong obviously. How can that even be possible? Mmr is simply an outdated concept in my opinion, at least when it comes to league. Do you agree? After now seeing this happen on myself I’m pretty sure there are a lot of players who are lower then they should be just because not wanting to have multiple accounts. If I only had 1 account I would think that I’m a silver player still and wonder why I can’t climb, where in reality it has nothing to do with my skill really. If you don’t believe me just do the math: +14-32 gains? That means I need around a 70% winrate just to not drop further in my rank. Pretty hilarious.

"the items change the way you play" might be the wrong way to think about it. if you have a better intuition for skirmishing you should itemize for that, if youre a better laner itemize for that instead. rather than change your play, theres space to specialise items to your behaviour.
