I think a great addition to the app would be the ability to filter by role as well as champ. For example, I was looking for Briar games, but all of them were top or mid, and I had to scroll through them to find the jg ones (that were from last patch, so old item system, not that the app can fix that. If nobody plays Briar jg on stream, then obviously I won't find anything lol), but it would have been much easier if I could select the champ and the role too

Nathan mentioned how having a process curbs tilt because it forces you to move forward after a rough block. In a similar way, I find that starting my process and reviewing every day has allowed me to stay present in my games. If a bad play happens it allows me to know I’ll be able to look back on it later and entirely focus on what’s next.

I feel like you bring this up a lot, but genuine multi tasking is something that is so hard! A lot of people can play a song on guitar OR sing along to the song, but doing both is harder, and playing something actually complicated while singing is even more so, if its a difficult melody or something like that it can get even more challenging. A lot of being able to do that is through practicing so much that you are able to play the guitar part/ sing the vocal melody with little to no thought so you can almost entirely focus on the other part. I think this ties in so much to the mental stack concept. Love the pod, cheers!

My mental attitude totally changed with your podcasts (and some guides from Coach Curtis). I play mid, I stuck with my favorite champ Veigar and managed to climb... Boy it was hard, I got inted very bad in a few games in a row of games and went back to Gold2 3 times before finally climb out of Gold!

Banger! But as someone that's used your process here and there my biggest issue I face when using the process is that I play too little games a day. I have SOOO much free time and LoL fills a great deal of that free time. If I were to only play 3 games a day my day would be empty, I know it works but for an online student like me that has legit 10+ hours of free time per day it feels so illogical to play only 3 games a day. That said I will give this a try, I liked the 2 week milestone advice Curtis mentioned. However, I am pretty certain I will play my 3 block and then as soon as I've got nothing to do maybe spam 3-5 normal games as well. What would you guys recommend?

Having started to take League more seriously the last couple of months, I haven't watched something that has been so informative but also encouraging as this video. Thank you so much for not just posting "1v9 item build/champ pool/climb out of bronze!!", but actually discussing things (as you say the not sexy things) that help people play better and ENJOY the game more. I've been going up and down Bronze 4 for what seems like ages, never quite getting the LP to promote, but you made me realise that that's secondary to actually getting good at the game. I'm OTP'ing Fiora because I love the champ and find it incredibly fun and challenging, and I'm still learning the match-ups and the mechanics better. I'm happy when I win my lane and if I lose it I watch the replay to find out why, and its usually because I didn't respect the enemy champ, or missed crucial timings, or messed up the cheater wave. I'd rather climb out of Bronze when I'm ready and deserving of it than because I brute-forced a bunch of wins on a cheesy champ.

He actually has a bronze-masters fiora climb video filled with educational commentary while he plays. Why he’s doing what things and when. It could really help your fiora game play and fundementals a lot. Especially if you’re stuck in bronze 4 there’s probably a lot that you’re missing

Excited to watch this through! From a quick look at the chapter names for the video, it doesn't look like there's any discussion on the state of the game currently, considering it's the start of the season, itemization and champion balance is all up in the air (there was also no pre-season, so ranked play will be more volatile). How would you guys advise approaching this from a BBC perspective? Pick the champions you enjoy, even if they're below 50% winrate based off the statistics? Would you recommend waiting for a couple patches following the changes? (my own champion pool is Orianna, Syndra and Naafiri currently, all dropped below 50% so far this season). UPDATE: Looks like it is mentioned in the video, 11 mins in. My bad!

@@aroulos Right now, champions like Fizz, Katarina and Zoe are completely busted. Syndra and Orianna fell off with the new items. They lost their best build (Liandries -> Cosmic Drive) and they struggle against ap assassins who are completely busted due to being able to abuse stormsurge much better. We will see if the micropatch 14.1b will fix this with the stormsurge nerfs. But I still think that they will be very weak. Orianna has a 48% winrate and Syndra has a 48.7% winrate - both are D-Tier.

Hi boys, amazing podcast. I just picked up league and already I noticed I’m falling into a familiar pattern. When I learn games (chess, hearthstone) I tend to look for a solid strategy that will win me games early on but doesn’t take much difficulty. This strategy got me top 30 legend in hearthstone and a solid 2200 rating on lichess, but it doesn’t have any room for growth. Then when I get to a high elo I feel lost because my simple game play strats have no flexibility. I’m wondering how I can avoid this as I’m learning league. Are there any steps I can take now as I improve to make sure I stay open minded and not get stuck in a rut with one champion and then lose motivation when I hit a plateau? An example might be learning some simple openings in chess and learning a few opening traps that carry me up to a higher elo, but actually don’t develop a deeper understanding of the fundamentals. I feel I just play cheap tricks for wins.

41:23 that's exactly what i do, in real time. especially if i'm immediately initially upset about my death; i see my mistake as it happens [i'm usually saying something aloud like, "damn, i missed my charm", ect] i pause at a death, replay the instance in my head & usually tell myself, "i shouldn't of done that in the first place, i knew it was a bad idea &/if i had actually landed this/executed xyz, this fight would've turned out differently or i wouldn't of been in it to begin with". & then i keep it in mind & try not to repeat the behavior if the instance reoccurs. i've never actually used the VOD for anything but funny clips earlier in my league years, when i didn't take the game nearly as seriously. 58:00 ehh ? i went 1-3 in my 3 block today & both losses were because both my junglers' ignored pings & fed their butts off. i will say, as a true support main, playing mid lane to climb hasn't diminished my ability to assess the map, ping when my laner is missing, roam if possible to match, ping where i see the enemy jungler, ward the side of the map they're last seen on, ect. i'll even get to a point where if they're ignoring a judgment call i'll spam it & hope they realize, "probably shouldn't be there/do that; no vision over here/you're waling in blind", ect. for me, it's really just overcoming -- this is elo hell, my pings or roaming when capable aren't the problem, i'm playing with people who genuinely don't know what they're doing--so i shouldn't be upset at them. like yea, that's the logic, doesn't make it less irritating, but i am able to rationalize it in the moment. [because im not a typer, my chats always off]

That’s kind of what I do as support in bronze. I primarily play Nani, and then I’ll have a few days where either Zyra or Saraka is it my secondary. And then every so often I’ll just throw in a different character for whatever reason… but that “other” is still within a pool of like 5, unless I’m playing draft of course. I was able to get to silver my first season doing that! I’d probably be plat if I could’ve continued to put in the same time and effort these last 5 years as I did my first year.

one of the statements really resonated with me and that is when I feel mentally taxed after 2-3 games win or lose. Many of my friends (and I used to) think that this is probably because the game is getting worse and worse every season and that my favorite champs are changed (ex Ryze main) or nerfed in ways that are no longer fun, but this is just not the case (I really enjoy playing Lucian for example and recently added him to my pool, and I still like playing the game otherwise I wouldn't play it). I realized now that it's probably because I climbed higher than I was back in the day and play ranked with much more intensity than I used to because of it, so it's natural for me to feel tapped out. Cool perspective.

Nvidia graphics cards have shadowplay. You can configure your own hotkeys for starting and stopping a recording and it has minimal performance impact. If you don't have that, OBS is an option. It's not that complicated and if you're struggling, there are plenty of tutorials online. The easiest to use are probably overwolf apps like outplayed and lowkey that can be configured to record your games automatically, or even just the highlights or your deaths or something. They have more impact on performance, but you don't have to remember pressing buttons to start/stop recording.

Sometimes shit happens that's out of your control. A recent example for me is I was filled into the adc role, my support DC'd during a level 1 fight and we lost that trade (obviously). He came back and engaged as a level 1 against two level 3 champions, we both ended up dying. I could say there's nothing I could have done, but I should have recognized that him going in at level 1 was never going to work and just backed off. I realized that during the play which tilted me and the game spiralled out of control from there. So, I should be more careful in what engages I follow up on when we know it's a bad idea and I should not let something like that tilt me so I can focus on not letting the lane fully collapse. Other than that I had not much to learn, but at least it's something

One one hand, this has allowed me to drastically climb to Master within 2 seasons of League. Now, what stops me to properly perform is tilt. I get very emotional when I do things wrong and I start blaming teammates, overlooking my mistakes. So, I stop because I stop learning and thinking of what I could've done better.

Most difficult doesn't mean most competitive - if anything, the added arbitrary difficulty in League can actually degrade competitive integrity. There are some things that cannot be avoided, such as dealing with other people who may not be up to par, the fact that climbing and improving aren't necessarily about the individual games while we live in a world that is used to instant dopamine, and whatever else. But Riot can improve upon things and they intentionally slowed climbing down, didn't they? These are things that add to the difficulty, yes, but also they degrade the competitive integrity of the game. To be clear, I think you guys are correct in your assessments and the mindset and positivity you try to put forward and try to influence others with and I commend you for it, but I think you shouldn't be afraid to call out Riot's bullshit as well. League is meant to be immensely popular and yet we can't have role-based MMR matchmaking (as in, each lane is vs someone of a similar MMR, instead of having higher role-opponent skill discrepancies) and that you can legitimately play 200 games at a 60% winrate, not really find games of your level/genuinely harder opponents and thus never come across an actual good solo learning environment - not saying you cannot improve in those 200 games, but you won't be in an environment where you can learn at your best and from players that know better and it's because Riot slowed the ranking down. And then they don't have any real social side to their game, which hurts it. If you think of old games and what made them all successful, one of the pillars is how accessible being social was - this is something that would greatly benefit new players too, because you'd have new and experienced players playing together. Would you say that Starcraft 1 and Warcraft 3 are less competitive because they had this last thing? No one would, if anything, people tend to tout those games as more competitive and harder because they require a similar level of thought with more micro ability. Difficulty doesn't equate to being more competitive. League is brutal mentally, but it doesn't need to be so bad and it really wouldn't hurt the competitive integrity or aspect whatsoever to loosen it up if done right and could even add to it (especially with social accessibility because then you would find people to 1v1 practice with, inhouse games, etc)

i played for 2-4 weeks hard and got from silver to plat with 100% pickrate on nilah adc. But now after taking a couple days without grinding so hard, my view on the game feels so warped that it feels like a fever dream. Improving is 10 harder all of a sudden and i dont understand how to practice or what to practice, or if im even right about things that seem to make logical sense. Im not even sure am i using the things i learned in my games or not, or even remember them or not.

this ties into what they talk about, elo range. I assume that you’ve never been gold let alone plat, which is quite a difference win pacing and a bunch of things. You might right now be in a higher elo than your current skill level hence the struggles.

3 block for a new player once per week is 156 games that year! 3 times per week is 468 games. If you can commit to daily!! ~1052. Imagine sticking to 1 or 2 champions for a whole year with this approach. Just like the gym, gotta put in the reps and gotta start with the basics and you will see progress.

Im more of a shooter player and in almost every single comp game I hit the top or right there. But in league years couldnt get past plat, once diamond. So if it comes to the amount of input in your brain and variables, of all the games out there, it is most definitely the hardest competitive games. Even a high level dota player admitted it and starcraft is also up there but league is like university, then bachelor and doctorate. The amount of info in this game is like 10x more than most games.

I hard disagree with the meta/matchup not mattering mindset. If you're a GM player obviously meta doesnt affect you much until Masters, but if you're an emerald player it does matter if yo want to climb to diamond. You can always get close to your true skill level with off meta picks, this applies in bronze and also in masters. Don't encourage people to pick amumu mid in their own elo

  • @nippi053

I can’t fathom the idea of playing 3 games and then calling it quits. I easily fill out my 20 game match history within a day or two. My breaks consist of drawing Jinx nude on my iPad while in queue 😉 or doing something for a few hours with my wife. If I’m at my pc and playing games, it’s always ranked league

I think there can be value in reviewing teammate mistakes: (1) You can become better by understanding a mistake someone else made; (2) You can get a broader view of the game and why things went wrong. Example: I played a game today as top lane. My Zac ganked bot level 3, enemy Samira got a triple kill, snowballed to 11-1, it was a 15 minute ff. I didn't see how the gank went wrong so I went back and watched it. My bot lane took really bad trades at level 1/2, missed some skillshots, and the real issue was that my jungle then forced a gank where my bot lane was 20% HP and enemy bot lane was 90%. For me, this did two things. It emphasized that when I play jungle, I need to be mindful of the HP bars when I gank a lane. It also gave me closure because now I knew exactly why things went so poorly and I could easily move on to the next game.

@nawafalmatruk297 i was plat last season so my advice is maybe not optimal for you. Still I think consistency and a focus on learning from mistakes > time played per day. Also as you were talking about 'good' rank I thought you were a silver trying to climb to gold, not a diamond player who is already in the top percentiles lol

This game's main community is genuinely disgustingly toxic. The higher you climb the worse it gets, maybe it's more chill in high gm/challenger, idk. I'm not talking about flaming because you have a competitive spirit, I'm talking about people who genuinely want to make you mad. The delusion gets so bad near/around master. It used to be tolerable, a couple toxic trolls every few games, sure just mute. But now, every game has at least 1-2, just completely delusional people. What's the point of playing an online game if I have to mute all? Unplayable unless you can have fun on your main champ.
