the Kurt Russell car movie you’re thinking of is Death Proof. Released on HD-DVD only in Germany. It is believed to be the final release on the format.

Nice collection. I got about a 100 Hddvd. Sad to see that the Warner discs have rot.

Yeah, I would have a ton more if it wasn't for the Warner issue, and if there were more TV series released on the format.

That was common with the WB releases because they used poor quality discs to print on

I had Star Trek season one i gave it away to a friend. I didn't have an HD-DVD machine and he did, i gave it to him after watching the DVDS as it was a combo.

Nice box sets. I only have the 360 add on. Got it new for 30 ha ha . I have aprox 100 plus. All found in the wild generally second hand for about a dollar . I was certain I was one of few people to have that many.

You should check out some of the collector groups for HD-DVD. There are a bunch of people with massive collections spanning entire walls. Releases from all over the world. Fascinating to see.

I won an Xbox 360 HD DVD drive for £20 over the weekend. It comes boxed, allegedly never used, with American gangster, the kingdom and Battlestar Galactica. Plus it has the driver disc, paperwork and remote. I backed HD DVD at the time. Went so far as to import a Toshiba player from America. I'm looking forward to building a nice collection. Especially after hearing you say you prefer the HD DVD versions of some films over the blu ray. I was only gonna buy films I don't already have on blu ray. Think I'll just buy everything instead now. They're nice and cheap which makes it easier as well.

That's fantastic. It's a fun format. The only drawback is that most Warner Bros releases are unplayable (although some JPN versions run fine). I'd love to have more on the format, but I would have to import from Japan, as all I run into here are rotted WB releases or movies I don't care about.

@@StefanHomberger Yeah. I've been looking for an older format to collect for a while. VHS,Last Disc and DVD never scratched the itch. But HD DVD is nostalgic and just a fun one to collect for. I've seen a lot of people takna out Warner Rot. Is it definitely rot and not the players? I've read some of the reviews from the time. Each player was getting dinged for freezing during play. But then the reviews had an update saying a new firmware had fixed it. So I'm wondering if people have players that don't have the latest firmware 🤔 Or Warner just cheaper out on production lol. I was watching a guy last night over here. He has a huge hddvd collection. Found out about loads of releases I hadn't found. Apparently band of brothers got a Japanese release. That would be a really nice find

Warner Bros. had serious production issues at their plant in Pennsylvania from roughly 2006-2010. There are huge numbers of WB DVDs & Blu-rays from that time period that have issues playing, and for some reason their HD-DVD releases are even worse off. Some hardcore HD-DVD collectors will buy up 20 copies of WB releases to try and find one that works.

@@StefanHomberger Thanks Stefan. Haven't heard anyone else talk about that. Well that makes total sense. Yeah I'm not sure I wanna buy multiple copies of films to get a working copy lol. I have just bought a bungle of 14 films tonight. Batman Begins (sealed), Swordfish (used) and Training Day (sealed) are all included. So fingers crossed lol. Even if they don't work it's just nice to have them in the collection. I like all 3 films and I always preferred HD DVD cases.

Agreed. There's always a slim chance they will work. People also have problems with the double-sided HD-DVDs (1-side HD-DVD/1 side DVD), but all of mine work. Also, there are a few movies on the format from WB that are single-layer discs, and those usually work fine ('Christmas Vacation' is one)

Hello, what happens is that at the beginning of HD DVD it had a better video codec than the first Bluray, that's why a movie was better in hd dvd format

I have a copy of Firewall that is a dual format disc, the HD side plays fine but the DVD side is bad. You can see dark spots on the DVD side of the disc. A lot of stores like Goodwill end up tossing HD-DVDs, occasionally they will list them in lots on eBay since they don't sell in the stores.

That's interesting, I've always seen it the other way around (HD-DVD side not working, regular DVD working). So many possible issues with the format. The Goodwills near us always have HD-DVDson the shelves, but almost always WB releases and $3.99- $10. Far too expensive to take a chance.

@@StefanHomberger Yeah, they price them the same as the blu ray and when they don't sell they toss them. It's unfortunate.

The only Marvel title that would’ve had a chance of being released on HD-DVD was Iron Man, which, at the time, was owned by Paramount Pictures, who supported HD-DVD. but Iron Man was released when the format was already obsolete and dead.
