Ornamentation on Tenor Guitar - My Approach
Музыка
I use a range of ornaments in my tune playing, and it's one of the things I get asked about regularly, so thought I'd make a video about some of my favourite examples. The tune is 'Dry and Dusty,' a lovely old time fiddle tune. If you'd like the transcription, get in touch!
I also have some space for online lessons, so drop me an email if you're interested in booking one: tomkimber1992@gmail.com

I literally drive with your music all the time! It calms me and keeps me from pit maneuvering grannies.

@@tomkimbermusic a question about tuning: most of the tunes i play are from an English pub session, and mostly in G major or Em (with the occasional D). Considering that, what do you think would be a good tuning? i was thinking GDGD, but i also thought maybe CGDG (like GDAD but capo 5)? i have some experience playing a strumstick tuned DAD and DGD, and play ukulele and guitar if that helps.

@@JayNewberyy I reckon GDGD would work. Or GDAD as you’d be covered for D then as well. If you were going for C tuning you’d have to think about string gauges etc
Nicely done! Thinking about pulling the trigger on an Ashbury tenor...your videos continue to inspire me to transfer my mando skills to the tenor!

Go for it! Its served me well. I'll be upgrading soon, but will definitely keep hold of this one when I do. Other than some minor alterations, so much of your technique on mando will apply to tenor.

This is honestly how I play bass, but also with power chords and hitting 2 strings
Really enjoy these videos and your playing. When you switch between GDAD and GDAE, do you change the gauge of your 1st string?

Thanks as always, I use quite a heavy set so I don't need to change the gauge at all. Usually my E string is a .13, so that can handle the lower pitches I use.
