I just love this! Such a beautiful sound to that tenor guitar and perfectly played. I play this just before I start to polish tunes I'm learning on my mandolin as this performance of yours reminds me that the objective is to play beautiful music not just learn a tune sufficiently to play along in a session. This is inspirational! Thanks so much

I've never played a Collings tenor. But i have been playing a GoldTone TG-18 for 10 years. And it seriously sounds and plays better than the Martins and any other tenor Ive ever played. Im putting this out there so if anyone is looking to start playing a acoustic tenor. They can buy 1 instrument that will satisfy them for years to come. But if you can afford a Collings tenor. I would be certain its amazing. I have never played a mediocre Collings mandolin.

Hi Baron, beautifully played, as usual. I'm at a loss to know whether to stick with CGDA on my Kala tenor or to change to GDAE like my first instrument, a mandolin. It will of course require a change of strings.
@banjofanatic75194 жыл бұрын
This really is wonderful playing. And the tone is amazing. I have a 23" scale tenor guitar being built and I'm sure I will want to try this string set on it at some point in the future. I saw over on MandolinCafe that you used string gauges of 46 32 22 15 and substitute a 12 for GDAE. Is the A string wound? Is this a stock tenor string set you could point me to - or are you buying singles or using part of a full guitar set? Would love to see more tenor videos by you. Thanks for any info you would care to share.

Thanks! I've got a couple Martin 0-18T's to compare it to, but nothing else with a mahogany top. I'd say it's not quite as focused and doesn't project as much as my 0-18T's, but makes up for it with a more complex sound. Also there's the fact that the martins are all 50+ years old with lots of play time under their belts.
