Organic vs Grass-fed Protein Powders
Спорт
If you prefer to use grass-fed whey protein powder for ethical reasons, then by all means, fork out a little extra cash for the stuff. If, however, you think it'll offer up superior health benefits, or you're concerned about antibiotics and hormones, your money may be going to waste.

First, you need to consider what exactly makes milk from grass-fed cows better for you. It's the fat! Organically raised, grass-fed cows have higher amounts of the all-important and essential Omega-3 fats, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), and vitamin E (a fat-soluble vitamin) than their grain-fed counterparts and these nutrients are found in the milk fat.
But the protein is processed to isolate the protein from the carbs and the fat. In fact, a quality protein has close to 100 percent of the fat removed. This means that if a protein-powder manufacturer is using protein from organic milk, nearly all of the extra omega-3 fats, CLA, and vitamin E have been removed during the manufacturing process anyway!

The reason I buy organic protein powder is because it always comes without any added sweetener or flavour, I just want the pure stuff..
I switched to grass fed organic protein basically because they're usually made with 4 or 5 natural ingredients. All the other ones have long lists of ingredients that I can't even pronounce and they're probably just fillers or chemicals.

Same for me. I take a grass-fed isolate daily, which he claims is a waste. But it digests easily, and the label has 4 ingredients whereas the back of his label is a big paragraph. Also as said in another comment, we know how much better the cows are treated.

Facts. I like the protein powders that put the entire amino acid profile on the label. Complete transparency of what you’re actually getting
What you don't get with organic grass feed is glyphosate contamination. Also with no grain feeding (soy) you don't get animal fat and proteins synthesized from non optimal soy proteins. Dissagree if you like that's fine, but just look at good quality grass feed fat in beef vs grain finished. There is a difference in taste, color, and chewyness. The toughness people complain regarding grassfeed is from over cooking the beef. Grass feed is best served medium to rare or almost raw with just an outer layer seer. We need some credible research to look at grass feed milk proteins to determin if the soy feed is effecting the protein synthesis. I'm not waiting for the results I will buy organic grass feed just in case. Also I do not support the cafo animal production model so I'm voting with my dollar for better animal husbandry.

Well said 💪🏻💪🏻 the care of the cows does have an effect weather people like it or not……….when it comes down to our consumption we either reap the benefits (grass fed/organic) or we reap the consequences
I was looking for an answer more related with the treatment the cows get. For me, that’s worth a price a little higher

Im 4 years late but it dosent matter where you buy your protein if your worried about the cows. Dairy cows and calfs all get slaughtered for beef at a certain age, size, and time. I grew up on a farm and i never met a farmer that didnt slaughter there cows at some point. If your worried about how there living then i dont know what to tell you because it varys and it really dosent matter. There's actual human beings getting murdered everyday and living in poverty. The cows really dont matter as long as they keep breeding.

@@austinporter4285 are YOU insane people choose to die!!!! people choose to live in poverty nut job.... cows have zero choices and are all treated very well unless its time for meat market and no butcher wants a sick or scared cow as the meat becomes uneatable.hard as a rock.those movies that show cows being tortured is extremely rare.Wake up libtard before one of those poor eat you by choice...
Paying extra money for organic grass fed protein powder may cost more, however you are rewarding that company and the farmers for raising their animals the correct way, sustainably and humanely. Cattle raised in cafos fed low quality (and 99% of the time GMOs) grains and stuffed together are disease ridden and also have a lower quality by products. Molecularly, you are correct about the amino acids being the same, however your mistake is that you assume the product is free of any antibiotic, hormones, and toxins from a life of grazing GMOs, when in fact there will be residual contamination of the byproducts.
Hi Jim, I'm Farid from Lima - Peru. I disagree with you on several things. first of all people who use grass fed protein unflavored, without added sugar, without rBGH, not gmo and other things, it does for these reasons: 1. are lactose intolerant 2. Sucralose, aspartament or any derivative of sugar causes the insulin to rise. 3. If we compare some of the available whey protein, such as Optimum Nutrition, Muscle Tech among other brands vs natural and grassfed we see that people do not experience bloating, or stop losing weight, insulin rises, etc. I think that brands like muscle tech, optimum nutrition, dymatize, among others sell proteins with bad filtration processes, besides being a product that come from industrial cows, which are full of hormones and give them another type of food. So before saying that it is not worth buying grass fed protein think well about the benefits and think that not everyone likes the current proteins of the market. Ps: The problem is that these brands sell a lot of publicity and lie in many things when it comes to selling your product.

Well what about the fact that in N.Z, we mostly have grass fed dairy cattle, which are mostly treated more humanely than those on a feed lot, and we are not allowed to let any antibiotic milk through to the milk supply, there are huge fines for that. Doesn't that count for something.

I think the ethical reasoning behind it is a solid benefit in its own right. Sure the product may not be any better but there's a lot more than goes into it.
Do you have any recommendations for ones that are really tasty. I have this paleo protein from Julian bakery which is really amazing considering the Ingredients but not as tasty as Quest type protein powders. I’m doing a similar program as someone who is doing a bikini competition and I need to make sure I get my protein and don’t get sick of it. Paleo protein is great for my autoimmune disorder but I think I need more of a treat sometime and I’m looking for grass fed protein powders now. Any recommendations are super appreciated!
does this only apply to whey isolates? doesnt a whey concentrate still contain these fats and they are not filtered out, so therefore grassfed whey concentrate would be more beneficial than non-grass fed concentrate?
Is muscle tech cell tech a good product to use.
What about all the antibiotics in the big farms vs grass fed? The close proximity of the cattle tend to bread bacteria thus the need for drugs to combat this. The issue I see is how much antibiotics are in the big name whey proteins vs grass fed proteins? If there are non or the same amount, then the $ factor is a non issue.
2:11 definitely not wasting my money on JYM's protein powders here's why: Protein Blend (Micellar Casein, Milk Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Isolate, Egg White Protein), Clean Cream Creamer (High Oleic Sunflower Oil, Acacia Gum, Brown Rice Syrup, Natural Flavors, Silicon Dioxide, Sunflower Lecithin, d-Alpha Tocopherols), Natural Flavors, Gum Blend (Cellulose Gum, Xanthan Gum, Carrageenan), Salt, Sunflower Lecithin, Vanilla Bean Particulates, Sucralose, Acesulfame Potassium, Silicon Dioxide

Hi Dr. Jim, I'm from Brazil and I'm a big fan of your products, especially Pro JYM. I found out that mixturing Pro JYM with unflavored greek yogurt makes it delicious! The one I'm mixturing with is made of milk, milk cream and yogurt culture (no added sugars) and has the following nutrition facts per serving (200g): Carbohydrates: 9g Proteins: 19g Total fat: 8g Saturated fat: 4g Trans/mono/poli fats: 0g Sodium 120mg Calcium 200mg MY QUESTION: Can the mixture (greek yogurt and Pro JYM) jeopardize the protein absortion that was devised for your protein powder? I'm not a big fan of shakes, and due to the high protein concentration of the yogurt along with the calcium, I thought it would be a good idea to combine them. Thank you in advance!

I do not think this is a problem. I often see this in the JYM "muscle building protein rules" diet to mix in 1 cup of yogurt with 1 scoop of projym. Never had a problem very rich though but yummy!
Thanks for posting this on KZread because that way I can turn on the Automatic Captions options :) I have a question about protein and milk. I can't afford the protein mixes and they don't seem to agree with my stomach anymore (Even ProJYM which i used for years and I won't go into the details.) But does 1 percent milk give me enough protein if I drink 2 cups each time I need it instead of protein powder? I can only afford cheaper brands too like Shamrock Farms mmm on the Go Family size milk but it seems 1% is 1/2 the fat of 2% which is 38% less fat than Whole milk. (they only cost me about 2.20 a gallon compared to Horizons Organic milk which costs 8 dollars a gallon too much for me) Am I wasting my time with 1% if I want just the protein and not worried about the fat or should I bump up to 2% and get the benefits of the fat too for fat loss? I drink about a gallon a week. Thanks

I tried Horizon's Organic whole milk just for taste this week . 7 dollar for a gallon (pricy) but wow it completely tastes different from normal milk (not sure if it's the pasteurization process is different from others?). It reminds me of my childhood when my dad used to get the milk from a local dairy filled in a glass container and you recycle the containers by taking it back to the refill window at the dairy. Good old days.
Hey Sir. I just bought your book. Is great. I'm about to start the wholebody split program. Do you have an email in case I have a question or something. Thank You Sir!
Levels grass fed is good? Seems like very less ingredients and clean
Sure buddy, but that only applies to isolates. Smart folks use concentrates for better MPS unless they're lactose intolerant and then maybe they'll have to use an isolate. Most people aren't though.

Extra virgin olive oil is superior
Use protein powder as a meal. Don’t be downing a protein shake with your steak and veggies. One or the other. I purchased Raw grass fed whey from Amazon. After the gym I either have my dropped eggs on toast with a bit of olive oil on the toast.
Makes total sense. That's exactly what I was thinking as well

Guys I advise you to research this area as you will find that grass fed protein will give you much higher benefits than ordinary protein. These cows are happier cows so less stressed ( something that can transfer to us.....surely we all need less stress nowadays). Less antibiotics and definitely no artificial ingredients . As much as I love Jym protein I can say that grass fed whey is far superior and worth the extra cost

After looking through many comments here, I'm surprised you haven't added a grass fed product to your supplement line up! Potential customers are telling you what they want and you won't sell them what they want? Not good business logic my friend!

Don't you mean "misconception"
Grass Fed all the way. Want an excellent protein without the added fillers, sugars and other hidden junk buy Levels Protein. 100% grass fed. Taste great and will help you achieve your goals. I’ve used ON amongst many other brands. I find them to have the same medicinally taste and loaded with hidden sugars
Yeah you should still use all those powders with sucralose acesdulfame etc that will destroy your stomach in the long run.
You have not done your homework. Don't listen to him and ONLY buy organic gras fed protein powder.
Not true at all... a regular whey protein gives me acne and even gas whereas grass fed organic made from raw unprocessed milk gives me none of that shit... plus a regular one also has soy lecithin, colorings and artifical flavourings
Nailed to to the bone, goat.
Non Organic cows are pumped full of vaccines and hormones.
Jim would you please also make video about pros and cons of soy free protein powder?
what about organic plant based protein?
Yeah some benefits get lost and what removes even more benefits from the milk is heating it up and homogenizing and pasteurizing it. If you drink milk, only drink raw organic milk, but don't drink too much milk, it will raise your estrogen, prolactin and cortisol levels and it will lower your t-levels and you can become a soy boy.
It might be true for Whey Isolate powders but definitely not for more pure and natural form of Whey which is Whey Concentrate powders and you know it but don't talk about it cause you don't sell those. Classic.

How is Whey Concentrate more pure than Whey Isolate? If an Isolate is 27g of protein per 30 gram serving and a concentrate is 24g of protein per 30 gram serving, those other 3 grams of protein are now either carbs or fat, right?
@cdl512
6 жыл бұрын
the problem with your example is you're confusing raw ingredient and the end product (what gets mixed with a flavoring system). Flavoring is easy with whey, doesn't require much creamer and flavoring to get a decent taste but it's much more difficult with casein because casein has a naturally bitter taste. So worrying about extra grams above the protein content is meaningless, unless you like the taste of shoe leather.
Just get undenatured whey protein powder
Honestly (and I know people are not going to drink something that tastes like trash) we need to stand back and actually think on why is it that we are using the protein in the first place.. Is it to have something good to drink and who cares about whats in it? Or is it actually doing what the product should be doing which is support muscle repair and growth? I myself opt for option number two. As a child most of us hated some if not all vegetables but when we grow up we find out the health benefits and learn to like or at least deal with them for the added health benefits and this is how i look at supplements in general. Long story short (too late) If you want something that just tastes good and who cares about everything else buy the protein that tastes the best and feel good about yourself that you are taking a protein, go you! If you want the very best results do your research. I have done mine and here is what i like kzread.info/dash/bejne/qm2erZSNlpifo9Y.html
