No. Gen 2 ist only for the EP 801.

Yes, you can look for a Rise 2021/2022 H model which features a 540 battery. it will fit in your M10 without any concern

I’m not sure of a reputable store that sells them but there are several eBay stores that do. If you find a good store, let us know!

so how has the battery held up? has it lost range?

No issues or complaints.

I think the range extender is the better option, at all.

Other reasons to remove the battery would be to route cables or replacement of a faulty battery. I wouldn’t recommend trading batteries to extend the range. Way too much work. The extender is a better option for sure.
