Checking out the 2023 Orbea Rise M20 with the new EP8 RS motor and 540Wh battery + E-Tube app

Спорт

The carbon version of the 2023 Orbea Rise doesn't look new, but it is actually quite different to the 2022 bikes. I talk about the most important changes, I ride the bike, I talk a lot about the motor, and I take a quick look at the new settings in the E-tube app.

    The bike I tested is a Rise M20 with the 540 Wh battery, that explains the relatively high weight of 19.5 kg. The bike comes standard with a 360 Wh battery and weight should be about 18.6 kg.

    Thank you for this shared information, very interesting and also strange. We will see in the next few months how this rattle will be in other bike's.

    That garmin mount at the top of the stem is a great idea. Perfect for lights and GoPro. The bike (in the UK at least) seems awfully expensive for the spec, though.

    interesting. does this mean that it is not possible to upgrade a current EP8 motor to a 801 i wonder? It's only worth doing if the rattle is gone though, so time will tell I guess.

    You can't just change the motor, the EP801 has a different battery system and cables, so you would need to change it all out and depending on your frame it may not even fit either because the shape of the motor is a bit different.

    It sounds like this rattling issue has more to with cranks than motor. Please advise

  • @EMTBVideos

    @EMTBVideos

    Yeah, the crank arms can play a part. But the noise is emitted from the motor. It comes from the motor internals hitting each other. Some have done a hack with some sort of rubber band around the crank axle, between the crank arms and motor house. I haven't tested it myself but I guess this ads friction to the system and reduces the forces causing the rattle.

    Previous model years all got the first gen EP8, the EP800. That motor will rattle when costing over uneven surfaces. Some accept it and enjoy the bike, some really dislikes the noise.

    I've enjoyed riding those. It's not the most stable/capable going down hill at speed. These are light bikes with good good motor performance that are fun and inspiring for "normal" trail riding. And it seems they're nicely discounted these days.

    @@koslan2646 I would probably go M20 because of the motor. The 2022 H15 has the older Shimano EP800 while the 2023 M20 has the EP801, according to the specs. But you do get nicer suspension on the H15.

    I like the more rugged forks on the 150 mm travel versions. But! I like the balance and feel of the bike with a 140 mm fork. I really should compare them more to be sure, but my impression is the 140 mm version has a nice planted feel, great for all mountain style riding. But the skinnier stanction diameter makes the 140 mm fork a bit less precise and composed on rougher trails.

    Size L. I weighed it with the 360 Wh battery, that's the default for all 2023 carbon Rise models. You can specify the 540 Wh battery when ordering the bike, but it ads about 800g I think.
