Ever since The Walking Dead, I've been in absolute love with Jon Bernthal. The dude is phenomenal on screen; and can command authority just with his presence alone. Hell, he stared alongside Brad Pitt of all people in Fury, and managed to make himself be seen and heard.

Endgame brought the story to it's natural conclusion. The reason it's so bad now is because it's over. There's nothing left to tell. Professor Hulk, for example, was the end of the Hulk's arc. Bruce's conflict was between Banner and Hulk, when the two were fused the conflict was complete. The story was over. He should go, and we all assume he went on to have a happy fulfilling life. Him hanging around is just awkward.

...or fat Thor. Thor was a Lott story. A man with wealth, power, family, friends and rugged good looks. So the question was, is he him, or is he just the product of, pardon the expression, his privilege. So like Lott each one of his advantages were stripped away, culminating in him becoming fat and unattractive. At his nadir point he found his inner strength and overcame his obstacle, thus proving his strength is his own, not a hand me down. Conflict solved. Story over. There was nothing left to tell. Go away now.

25:00 - in 1974, at 5 years old, I was reading DC and Marvel comics all the time. And even at that tender age, I noticed a trend in DC to spend an entire page on exposition, say Batman explaining how they'll use their batarangs to get the drop on the bad guys, and the next page, they've accomplished what was exposited, and then start talking about what they're seeing! This was in every DC book at the time. The Marvel books, on the other hand, did have exposition, too, but they were more apt to use art to tell the story.

Kevin Fiege thinks he’s so clever making his novel to screen adaptations analogy. The other major source of source material for adaptation at the birth of cinema was the theatre. The annual proportion of movies based on stage plays has absolutely plummeted since the end of the 60s, reflecting a big overall change in the style of moviemaking. The entire business of novels publishing now has an eye firmly on getting optioned for movie or TV rights to make it a more profitable enterprise. The creative media all have an impact on each other. It’s so interesting the point made that video games has drawn a generation away from getting into reading comics. You normally only hear that point when discussing changes in TV viewing habits and declining audience figures for broadcast media.

Steel-manning wouldn't be to lie or even twist the truth but to make the best possible argument (using truths) for the thing. The end goal isn't necessarily going to align with making the thing you're arguing for to sound great, it's more what's the best possible thing you can say. I don't think it technically counts as steelmanning, but the opening of better call Saul where he focuses on the future of the kids that cut up and defiled that dead body rather than talking about the actual defilement is a good analogue. Nothing he said was necessarily false, and it was all a framing thing. Usually steel manning is actually used to knock down an argument. If you can craft a better argument for something than the people who are actually for it and still knock it down, then you can knock down any case made for it by the people who are actually for it.

A God of War show should go through the Greek games, it won't be cheesy! Those are still some of the best games ever made! It would be like a Conan show, Kratos just walking around ancient Greece fighting monsters and getting it on with the local ladies. And the combat with the chain blades would be unique and awesome!

Honestly, as much as people would understandably groan at the concept, I think the best timeline for a GoW show is the span between GoW 3 and GoW 2018. I genuinely want to see the path Kratos took that brought him from one realm to another, and to see how Kratos and Faye met up. Getting it done RIGHT is a long shot, but that's the gap in the story that I want to see filled.

The show would have to have the Greek storyline. The Norse saga isn’t as impactful if you don’t understand who Kratos truly was. IMO the show should cover both storylines if carefully constructed, the Greek mythogy portions could be flash backs that inform the viewer who the present Norse Kratos was and why he is the way he is. I hate that it’s becoming popular to discredit the Original GOW games. Yes, some of the cutscenes don’t hold up, but the story and characters are timeless. Kratos’ evolution from a somewhat sympathetic antihero to a unredemable reflection of the very thing he once despised, is what made this series popular in the first place. That’s why seeing him actually redeem himself in the Norse games was such an emotional event for us who’ve been here from the beginning.

Altered Carbon S1 to S2 is largely broken because of the 3rd novel story, woken furies which moves from the noir mystery of altered carbon, to a 'conspiracy' story that doesn't merge the 'methusela' ancient/immortal wealthy scions that have the power over planets and corporate militaries, etc. in a believable fashion. So, the Quellist part, is a key aspect of the Kovacs character... but it's also the least important story for the Show/Series, because the Envoys as an existence are better left as mysteries until there's a compelling reason to want to kill the main character off. The main reason why they brought Quell into the story, is the same reason why Ciri is more important than the witcher, in his own show, i.e. they NEED to emasculate male hero characters with Strong Black Women or Akward, unattractive, unlikeable Girls who are the Post-Modern Heroes we Deserve. Since he's 'going home' / semi-retiring when this happens in the novel, this isn't very wise to quickly adapt. Kovacs knows that he's not able to really retire, since he's stored as a backup/clone in multiple places as a failsafe for many people. Even if that would be illegal ie Double Sleeving, due to the problems it creates legally where both entities share criminal and legal responsibility. Which leads into the story for S2, that the backups can be corrupted or fragmented in some way. And, yeah, it wasn't a good idea to adapt the Quellist story, because it unravels the mystery of the character into a weaker version of the character as a result. Namely because Kovacs has 'infinite' possibilities to unravel or delve into whatever society or conspiracy exists. Massive storytelling potential and integrating new/old characters to flesh out the world. Takeshi Kovacs can be 'dropped' in to solve, or create a war, hide a secret, etc. Because he can be dropped into the story, like a mercenary / wanderer, he's not obligated to really feel the consequences or moral scruples of the scenario, he may be rogue/antihero or brave/chivalrous, or just plain villainous and evil, the concept of being an outsider in a harsh cyberpunk dystopia is a great free-form setting.... So that's why you need to destroy the entire franchise before you can make it an action thriller / Mercenary morality play/trauma. Instead, bring Abby in with the golf club to murder the Altered Carbon universe. If they had built a Season 2 which integrates the middle novel, to pad out the character and some of the planets/economy and the universe's backstory first, and not brought the permanently dead 'meths' and the old sleeve rebellion in, i.e. pad out the story over 2 seasons, it would have had more time to percolate. Especially the introduction of religious fundamentalists drowning people in the ocean to stop their sleeves from being recovered. Especially introducing the Envoys and their gradual 'extermination' i.e. the post-russian revolution extinguishing of the revolutionaries that were anticipating being in charge, and were summarily executed in secret, or imprisoned and killed in public for their 'crimes' that the new party blames on the old party. The problem with the protectorate is that you get some amazing things in small doses. When you overload the story with too many new concepts, and then start to push a new narrative on top, and the setting becomes harder to concentrate on, because too many foundations have been moved, i.e. Kovacs has changed, quell is an old friend ? who is this person, why should I care, etc. The 'hook' for people who haven't read the novels, or know the story is kind of ruined, because you don't get that cyberpunk cowboy, it becomes a government rebellion story, which is usually entirely reliant on making the governing rulers ... 'understandable or likeable' and quellchrist falconer is an unbelievably dumb alliteration nickname, especially because in this 'fantasy' of a fantasy setting, then you have a strange islanding problem with this 'rebel hero' just appearing as someone capable, with no real abstraction of the reason or logic behind the relationship.

I don't care in the slightest about their "vision" I want to see a badass high budget 100% faithful adaptation of bioshock, fallout 1 2 or new Vegas, mass effect, halo, or any of the other stories I spent tens or even thousands of hours invested in compared to a film makers paltry 1 and a half hours. 2:14:15 the “it looks good, I want it” has driven media profits for generations now. Many a cult classic has fallen to the wayside initially or phenomenon risen simply because something pretty caught peoples attention. The last 15+ years of stalled out gaming can be defined as “the same as before, but prettier” (even as the increasing number cut features are lamented by the series long time customers). By extension avatar 2 hit the sweet spot of “the one person that hit 3 D right”, a likely temporary return to a mostly wholesome family movie (with some unexpected plus other idiotic consequences/results) that happened to occur in the middle of a sci fi CGI “Blockbuster” battle of the planets. it’s 2 full movies in ins and would have been better served plot wise with a series but that’s not where the 3D gimmick is found nor are the big profits.
