aarthificial, another game dev, made a really interesting video on how to make easily updatable pixelart animation without 3d models or anything fancy like that, just a smart shader, I think it might help you speed up development a bit

It's really only useful for things like player outfits or alternate sprites. He'd have to do the basic process for each of the NPCs that he's already finished.

But NPCs are similar enough that it's no different to an alternate sprite. I don't see how it wouldn't have been useful and potentially time-saving.
One year down twenty to go
The initially sitting "launch" was quite hilarious, I love seeing those little oops moments behind the scenes. And your art-style is very charming, I look forward to exploring it. Congrats on one year! You've made so much progress! I try to give a comment every time - I don't do well in crowds (even digital) - so while I silently lurk on discord I want to show my support here at least. You have all my respect for your dedication when it comes to interacting with everyone and I'm sure your audience will build as a result. Some feedback that occurred to me from spending years around these kinds of games: Try to keep an eye on mod-ability. A considerable part of why indie games continue to thrive over long time (SDV of course but also other genres like Megaquarium come to mind) is players adding variety on top of the content the game provides. I can guarantee you'll have an FAQ where "can you mod this?" is featured... right alongside "will there be multiplayer / can you add multiplayer". The latter of these two is probably worth to be firm on from the get-go, though it will hardly silence the mob. Ask the Medieval Dynasty devs who just added multiplayer to their roadmap after years of "this is a singleplayer game". ^^;
I am pretty excited for the game! Gotta say one of the best parts is how good you are at pixel art. Keep up the good work!
I love watching devlog's. As a game dev wannabe, I enjoy seeing how people go about making games, how long it takes, all the bugs and stuff like that. I always wanna try making a game of my own, but I'm always so scared of even trying. But watching devlog's keeps pushing me in the right direction. Thanks. :)
I’m so ready to buy this when it comes out! It looks amazing and you’re doing a great job man!
Giving the gobs their own architectural style is a nice tough. It's so easy to just not think about it and move on. But the extra touch of effort really helps it stand out. Keep up the good work
15 days is impressive for that many assets, im learning pixelart and cant even get that kind of quality into a single asset in 15 days. good work
Super excited for the game! Also can’t wait until you get a patreon going lol I don’t even want anything I just wanna allow myself and others to give a lil something for the hard work you put out at least before the game does come out
i only found your channel a few days ago and have been so obssessed with this. Its awesome!
super cool! suprised when I noticed you only had 6k subs, hope you have much success!
I think I'll start working on my dream game after one year of gamedev too😅 good video btw
As someone looking forward to making their own indie game one day, I really enjoy these one man project devlogs. Liked and subscribed, excited to see where you go from here :)
just discovered your channel, this is freaking great content! Very chill and well explained with good bits of humor thrown in. The game looks great by the way! Subbed and wishlisted.
Wow you got a lot of art done! Even if you think it doesn't look like much I know it is haha. The creative design and then actual creation of those designs is so much more than most ppl realize. Excited to see a demo soon too 😀
what the hecc these videos are so professional and well laid out. you deserve the most for these, wow :O
Northic churches use to use ships as building material , in the colder parts of scandinevia you had to pre cut tall trees to move down the sap over a year and this made the wood easier to transport and the sap could be used to cat the building after you burn the sap
This looks awesome!
The art is as amazing as always.
Let’s go! 1 year you did it dude!
Amazing work! Keep going.
Man, this is awesome. Keep going
These little goblins are without a doubt my favorite pixel art characters, so well done!
Looking great
This game looks sick might buy it when it comes out keep up the work my guy
Well... you have a new subscriber no! Your pixelart is amazing and i need to watch your videos :D
Don't know how I missed this video, anyway, congrats on the development, keep up the good work.
Woah this is really cool!
looking forward to play the game :)))
this vid is amazing
I’m so excited for this game dude you have no idea
I love the fact that you mentioned the specific number of hours you've spent working each day. While people vary in their speed, they also vary in number of hours worked each day due to scheduling or emotional constraints. It's helpful to have a clearer picture of how much work it took to get where you are now.
Awesome keep it up
when the programmer art is actually GOOD
Nice video!
Wishlisted
I love ur content brother BTW love the art
the 10k wishlists is so important because it boosts your SEO on the steam store, especially on launch day.
Popped up in my recomended, really enjoy the stardew valley thing going on, def gonna watch some more of these dev logs
Congratulations! You're really picking up steam now! The directional sitting definitely makes sense for NPCs and things like armchairs, but in the example you had a bar stool and a thought it might be cool if the players was able to switch the direction they were facing whilst on the bar stool; kinda like a sudo-emote. Now... please ignore this next bit if you it's not right for your game... no pressure... but you were talking about placing houses, so what about also being able to place furniture both inside and outside like in Animal Crossing New Horizon?
@WattDesigns
2 жыл бұрын
Already possible! I have it so the player can place destructible furniture anywhere marked as a “indoor player placement zone” 😊
More more more more more
hey! love the look of this! just stumbled upon it then immediately went and wish listed and watched all the videos. I like the new smooth walking animation, do you reckon you could smooth it even more with the camera? it looks like when you move continuously sometimes the camera seems to jitter as it stops on each grid rather than smoothly following the player. Maybe a camera bounding area could help? it would mean the camera would move a lot less in combat scenarios where you're moving back and forth a lot.

I like it! I’ll give it a shot 🤔
The game looks beautiful man, just found your channel. But don't mistake constructive criticism for negative, the guy from discord clearly cares enough to spend his time giving you feedback :) I would not take that for granted even if it stings some times!
Hell yeah making animations for characters can be tedious and I know it 🙄Your game looks awesome, can't wait to see the progresses!.
game looks great so far, congrats! do you have any tips for someone starting on game dev?
KZread just recommended it to me probably because I was googling yesterday about if even a noobie like me can be a game developer or not lol Anyways nice content man!
Art looks amazing! This is the first devlog I’ve seen from you, just wish listed on steam. Not sure if you plan to add this but shadows under the floating garbage might be a nice touch to blend them into the environment more. Could just be a black circle as a child under each object depending on how your shadow system is setup. Also curious how you are making buildings transparent if you don’t mind sharing? Is it changing the alpha value on the sprite renderer or something different? Excited to see where this game goes!
@WattDesigns

Thanks! I like the shadow idea, I’ll give that a go 🤔 And yeah, just changing the sprite renderer alpha 😊
One word… MOREEEE

I really love the look of the game! One thing is, will the enemies always drop that much stuff or are you going to change that later. It just seems to e a ot to drop from one enemy. But still excited for the game!
@WattDesigns

It’ll be changed! Right now it’s my only way to get stuff into the players hands so I’ve been slowly adding junk over time 😂
I dont really use steam at all but i might just because this game looks really good and i wanna play it.

Commenting for algorithm
how did you learn pixwl art?
@3:40 why don't you use shilouhette shader :3 i think it would be awesome
Wishlists are useful, even when people don't buy the game. Steam's algorithm uses them as a deciding factor for how much to promote your game on launch, That is why people say you need 10.000, because, anecdotically, that seems to be about the number you need to get on the front page.
Take my money
Hey I have a idea for a clean up and I’ll goblin what ever you curb like Rangel special eggs from the dungeons and then the Hudson to special spiders does the fox idea for a collect the faults and they can produce more Zilker like every day is like a real ride him when you first hats them
When is this game coming out? I want to buy and play!!!

Probably not for a little while, but if you wishlist you’ll get notified by steam when it’s out! 😊 hopefully I’ll be able to leave my job pretty soon here and work on it a bit more

@@WattDesigns I did just that, I hope it will be in a year, if not I'll be notified by steam xD
Now that the map doesn't have the seperate qindow to the right anymore shouldn't it cover a bit more of the screen? It doesn't seem like you expect people to look at it and play at the same time so I don't see why the paper would be so small
What engine are you using if you dont mind me asking
@WattDesigns

This is with Unity!
I'm interested in making video games, but I do not know where to start and what to do. Can you guide me?
@WattDesigns
2 жыл бұрын
I started out by downloading Unity and trying some of their tutorials! They have some sample projects there you can use to get used to things :) once you’re comfortable with the programming, you can start branching out with your own ideas. It’ll be hard at first and you’ll have a lot of frustrating moments as confusing issues pop up, but you’ll get the hang of it!

May this will be a stupid question, but is the game 3D based or 2D based?
@WattDesigns

2D 😊
The game looks great! One thing, the tree sprites are good, but I think they don't fit the games beautiful art stile realy well. Just a personal thing, but maybe you can a note of it.

you should maybe quickly explain your game at the start of each video for new viewers like me. Your game looks good anyway
